The fact of the matter is that he has HAD to move players on on top of the loss of key players in order to balance the books and get new players in resulting in a re-vamped squad of arguably lower quality.

Missing the point- We still must have the most expensive squad in the division - by some margin if its based on 60/65% of turnover
Our players are getting shed loads more than the rest of the players in this division - its about time they started to give value for money!
I am sure Brentford, Tranmere, Bournemouth players (and yes Yeovil and Hartlepool) would like to play at SUFC with their big crowds, big club attitude - unfortunately our players have Billy Big Bollocks attitude and no bottle when it comes down to it!

I disagree. Challenging for automatic promotion would have been the minimum requirement when the budget was being set in June last year. Given the relative budgets of ourselves and almost every other side in this division I don't think that it is unreasonable to expect a top-two finish.

In theory yes, but we know that higher player cost / wages doesn't = guaranteed success. If only it was that simple.

It's not unreasonable no but as said above, having the biggest budget guarantees nothing. I said at the start of the season that this term may be make or break for the manager. Another failed attempt at promotion would have the doubt setting in, mainly among the supporters. Although I support him 100% and still feel he's the right man for the job, it's up to him (and his players) to prove it. The minimum expectation is promotion.....if top two isn't achieved then we simply have to go up via the playoffs instead (yes I know we don't do that). Failure is not an option this season. The longer we stay in this division the harder it will become to get out. Another season at this level will set the club back years.

So what? It happens all the time in football.

Bottom of the league Peterborough beat top of the league Cardiff the other month and then QPR beat Chelsea just the other week.

Just forget about it and move on.

Last Saturday's team contained 3 players who started the play-off final. We've lost quality players for this division and have had to re-build (spending considerably less money) whereas other teams haven't.

OK, we have the biggest budget but if you suddenly put cheap petrol in an expensive car, it won't always run as well as a car which is built to run on cheap petrol

It's that kind of attitude towards smaller clubs that is our downfall. Perhaps some of our players have the same attitude towards the Tranmere's and Brentford's of this world. No one is going to roll over for us. It seems some supporters expect the rest of the division to step aside in awe of our mighty budget and rich heritage

It's fair talk. I don't really want to dwell on the league position too much I just think it justifies my assertion that an all out panic is the last thing we need at the moment. We're still in a reasonable position but as a club we have to take stock and regroup. Sacking the manager at this stage is a ludicrous suggestion and would achieve nothing.

What I would like to see the manager do is drop certain individuals from the starting lineup to give them a kick up the arse. This is a bad run, it's not a collapse.

Whilst this, obviously, doesn't guarantee success, it should mean we are in a better position than the opposition and, if we use that advantage wisely, should make it count. This, however, doesn't take account of our starting position (i.e. in the shit) which seems to negate the advantage we should have.

I do agree with that. We have an advantage over most other clubs in the division (if not all) financially and that means that our expectations for achieving promotion are justified. What I don't agree with is the refusal to accept that we will lose some games. Our resources are greater than the rest but I don't believe significantly enough to mean we should stroll to the title. Up until a few weeks ago we were using the advantage to good effect, we were top and looking strong.

Now we're being tested and this is where you see what your money pays for. We've hit a run of games against hard working teams, in cold weather, on bad pitches with increased expectation levels (having gone top). Suddenly certain individuals don't fancy it, they're out of their comfort zone. The kind of player that costs £1m would power through it and show their quality every week. The kind of player that costs £250k might not.

Better to have our 65% yes but how much can that really buy you in this league? I think the answer is in performances. Since we were relegated I haven't seen one side (us included) at Bramall Lane that has put in a high quality performances. I've seen some decent ones.

im fed up with wilson now. but in reality hes not going anywhere. what pisses me off more is the players. most of them have been coasting all season. im no booer, but my good will towards the team has officially worn thin now. saturday was one step too far. the lack of passion was appalling.

before we signed murphy i said i couldnt for the life of me see why he'd even consider signing for us. i bet stuart mccall is right off his christmas card list with all that bull he told him about us being an ambitious club! were an ambitious club, in the same way buying a lottery ticket is a financial investment.

Of course crowds aren't irrelevant but it's not as straight forward as that, that's all I'm saying. Bigger club means bigger and better facilities, more staff, bigger overheads etc etc. None of us know how much has been set aside for players wages, we can't even presume that the full 65% has been.

With the current bunch if we're paying them 35% they are being grossly overpaid - not put in a decent shift all season-going through the motions and 20,000 mugs turning up to watch!
