22. Sirrel P6 W0 D2 L4 F6 A13 pts 2
23. Adams P6 W0 D2 L4 F5 A12 pts 2

Very interesting that Kendall is so low, given his popularity with the RAPFA lot. If Wilson had the same record now, would they still be cheering his name ?

Sirrel was appointed as our next boss two days before we were due to play our home game against stoke but he wanted to serve his 4 week notice. Do you say that the Stoke match was his first game or the away match to QPR a week later? highlights of Blades v Stoke was shown on MoTD and Sirrel didnt go to that game as he was still in charge at Notts County. Sirrel was interviewed on MoTD after the Blades v Stoke game. A few days later both Notts County and SUFC decided that Sirrel should take charge at the Lane rather than serve his 4 week notice so officially his first match was in the 1-0 defeat at QPR (McAlister was recalled to goal as Brown had suffered a bad injury in the Stoke game and Don Givens was QPR's scorer).

See link below for the Stoke game. You could see that Brown looked groggy after the bad collision that needed a lengthy treatment.

I wonder if anyone on here has seen a game under all those managers.

I am 3 short

and looking at Spackman, that was a huge cockup, letting him out the door, no one won on that one ..

Hats off to DW. Wasn't sure he was the right appointment but he seems to go about his business with minimum fuss. I like him.

thats all you can ask of the bloke mate, i hold my hands up and say i did,nt want him but as you say he goes about his buisness very professionally, and we seem to be playing decent football. the team aint that much different to when adams was here but DW seems to be getting the best out of them

I'm 4 short.

I saw United play under Reg Freeman Joe Mercer and Arthur Rowley. Started going on my own when Joe Mercer was manager. Can't remember anything about Freeman though.

PS Can't remember what I had for breakfast either ;)

Makes you wonder if we had appointed Wilson instead of Adams??

Any idea what Ces Coldwell did when he was makeshift manager Darren ?
I remember first game at home was Southampton and we were 3-0 up ended up clinging on for 3-2. Then the midweek we beat Notts County 4-1 I remember Colin Franks crossing over to Woodward who volleyed a cross in from the right wing and Keith Edwards nearly the burst the net with his header it was a fantastic finish. So many goals from years ago we have no video of that I would love to see again

In his 2nd spell as caretaker in 1977-78 Coldwell's first six games were P6 W4 D2 L0 F13 A7 pts 14, which would put him second.

In his first spell as caretaker in 1975 he only managed us for 2 league games, losing both with us scoring 1 and conceding 7.

Me too - Davison, Freeman Mercer and Rowley before my time.

and Archie Clark too!

Freeman got us promoted as second Division Champions in his first season. He died just before the start of the 1955-56 season. Joe Mercer took over and we were relegated in his first season for us

It's still very early days.

Brighton and Southampton finished 1st and 2nd in League One last season. After six games neither of them were in the top 6, infact Southampton were in the relegation zone.

Wasn't Coldwell the temporary manager when we lost those successive three games and letting in 5 in each one at the beginning of

Yep

7/1/78 H Arsenal (FAC) 0-5
14/1/78 H Bolton 1-5
21/1/78 A Sunderland 1-5

Those results probably cost him the permanent post as prior to that his record had been a rather good P17 W9 D5 L3 and he had taken us from next to bottom to the fringe of the promotion race. The Board decided to appoint Happy Harry instead. Great.

I think Harris was in charge when I first started going in the early 60's. Somewhere around 62 or 63 I think.
