Wilson 'expects to lose Quinn'

I think he may mean his plans for the season don't rely on quinn being here as he knows if a bid comes in he'll go but I'm not sure if anynone is actually interested in buying him. Not the same market as it was 2 years ago or even this time last year

Wilson on RS this morning said he expected Quinn to have gone before the transfer deadline at the end of the month, a clear message that we need to move anyone at the club due to lack of interest in Monty and Cressy

Maybe not if we can reach a settlement to pay Cresswell and Monty off, before the deadline.

It would seem like there is little prospect of that if we are now touting Quinn around, also we have heard that Collins and Doyle could be under threat and the Maguire rumours still keep popping up L City, Wolves and pigs all rumoured to be interested.

I think its probably more a case of needing to move all three of them on. I dont think selling Monty and Cressy will allow us to keep Quinn, I really dont.

He's been our best player over the 2 games this season, one of our genuine higher league players. I'm not going to mutter the "I hope we get £5M for him" because it's pointless. The money just disappears, or will go on wages of players who no longer play, or go on developing a car park in Grimsby etc

Gutted!

We'll be lucky to get £1M for him! Interested parties will know we are desperate to offload because of the wages and they will also be aware he's in the final year of his contract. I think we'll be looking at £500k best case scenario.

"The future is bright - it's Red and White"

We have said all summer we need to get rid of Quinn, Monty and Cresswell as they are roughly half the wage bill. Collins and Doyle are also getting paid more than any 1st division player should be so their futures are in doubt. Finally we intend to run as a business and I am personally delighted and happy to sacrifice another year in this division to bring younger players through.

There aren't many big companies in the UK who have not suffered in the same way. Why are we paying A this when B can do the same job if not better for half the price. I have been on both sides of the scenario, cutting and being cut. Although I don't agree with some things McCabe has done I stand by him in this decision. Why spend millions on the academy to watch the dross we have been watching in the last few years. The kids 'might' do better

I wouldn't say I'm "delighted" but I'm happy to watch United run along a new model with Wilson and Pemberton in charge. It'll take longer to pay dividends, but it'll be more like how football should be run.

As for Cress and Monty, weren't they signed after Birch had talked of "re-profiling" the squad? The fact we're still having to do that now is an indictment of Birch's thunderous fuckwittery in his running of SUFC.

I don't think there's any more to this than we already know. We didn't expect to keep Quinn and hoped that Monty and Cressy would be "moved on". Would love to keep Quinny but he's really too good a player to be playing Division 3 football. If he goes then so does our chance of top 2 and we become playoff hopefulls at best.

. Finally we intend to run as a business

Which is pretty much what we've been doing all along with our foreign "investements" and our Hotels etc. Me, I'd rather we ran as a football club, but seeing as the "business" people who have brought us here failed in their field of expertise, I can't see how the fuck they can be trusted to run one.

Ideally for me we should look to Spurs for a management model. Daniel Levy might not be liked by many but he runs them brilliantly. He is not a major shareholder ( see Joe Lewis ) and is mostly employed to do what he does on a daily basis. We have the carpet man.

Daniel Levy is renowned for making a profit on any transfer. Michael Dawson for 9 million anyone

It would be a real shame to lose Quinn and a big dent in our promotion prospects. He is one of the few players with real quality in our team. He does not track back, his positional discipline is awful and he is inconsistent BUT he has quality. He can make things happen. Highbury's key passes index showed his contribution last season. Did he get double figure assists and almost double figure goals.

For me this is/will be the final nail in the coffin for automatic promotion. When you consider we've lost Ched, Willo and Lowton (50 goals and 30 assists?) and could be losing Quinn, then we have very little quality left. It is not just about where the goals will come from, it is about where the chances to score goals will come from!

Why spend millions on the academy to watch the dross we have been watching in the last few years.

Because all the products, bar Maguire, brought through the academy have been sold off (Mellis, Naughton, Walker, Slew, Lowton) for huge profits (or good business as the "business rather than football" people refer to it) leaving us with the "dross" (and high paid dross at that) to watch.

Academy is doing a great job, shame the people above that level aren't.

he's too good for this division and good luck to him.. whilst he is in the shop window we should get some outstanding performances then.. remind me.. when is the deadline??

the annoying thing is that we sell off our best youngsters for a million here.. a million there on the altar of 'good business' and then get this ffs.. spend it all on past its.. never has beens 30 year old loanees and sit in the stands on daft contracts.. THAT is where SUFC is f**ked.. ah'm tellin' thi.

With Quinn it is the same as Monty or Cresswell.

Its IF a bid actually comes in for him and we will want a fair bit for him still.

We will take around 350K for Quinn, believe me! His wages are the burden, the fee is almost negligible. He was under the same rules as Monty & Cressy but DW managed to persuade KM to play him until sold.

Agreed we have got it totally arse about face, the quality from the academy has been sold off (OK, some will argue we could turn bids down, but we've got decent money for most of them) but the money has been mainly pissed away on high earning underachieving dross who have only managed to take us further and further down.

Maguire will be next to go and if that happens then we may as well be called Crewe Alexandra 2.

good..i'll get slated for this but at last we are showing some common sense..

synchronised post alert.. (about not playing Monty and Cresswell and putting Quinn in the shop window that is. if we sell Harry i'll not be happy though)

If Wilson clearly'expects to lose Quinn in this transfer window' then what has he done to deal with his expected loss - not unlike losing Williamson on the right we have Flynn and MacAllister neither up to the job

We appear to be paying wages to bit players none of which he trusts with a regular first team shirt - Philliskirk, Tonne, MacAllister, Westlake, Flynn, Porter, etc

The annoying thing is after we were relegated from the premiership the board year on year spouted the same bollocks, "the parachute payments" and after that "the players have a clause in their contracts lower terms blah blah" yet here we are five years later and the only ex Premiership players at the club are still wringing thousands out of the club each week as are players signed even after Robson had done his best to destroy us, we as a club just never learn. We sell any young player that shows a bit of promise who could learn here rather than pick splinters from their arses at some Premiership club and on lower wages than the shite we loan or bring in most of whom are crocks or shit that no one else will touch.

I will be glad when this season is over and we do not have the burden of the higher earners dragging the club down and bleeding it dry, if we can get Doyle off the wages as well I would be happy with that. We can then hopefully start from a level playing field next season and build a team

Westlake ummmm why sign 2 right backs ??? unless McMahon is going to move to centre back when Maguire is sold

He isnt worth what we pay him in League one no matter how good he is. If we can get someone else in on alot less money to do a reasonable job then thats good business in my book (as long as that happens)

We all knew DW would not be able to build his own team until the high earners were off the books. I did hear that Quinny had offered to take a wage cut though because he wants to stay

As for Willo getting a hamstring injury at that ambitious club pompey so I am not too gutted about losing him now. As expected his injury problems have returned and I reckon his problems will get worse now he is in his 30's.

We signed two right backs because we had no recognised right backs at the club once Lowton was sold. You can't get through a season with 1 right back.

Like others have said, this was inevitable. We have sold youngsters and to me, the deals haven't always been bad ones but the money we got from the sales has been spent so badly at times. Robson, Blackwell, Birch and whoever else felt it necessary to give such long term contracts to ageing players have to take alot of the blame for the situation we find ourselves in.
