Will Wilder get more time than Adkins and Clough if things go wrong

think you got some of that off my introduction message, I said about Basset and Warnock and manager being a Blade. Bit cheeky bit Im not bothered, it wouldnt have hurt us to be a bit more route one a few times last season either instead of passing the ball to death along the back 4. Not bothered one way or another about former players coming back.
Genuinely hadn't a clue what you'd written on introductions, as I don't read it.

You're just a Bladey Blade, that's all ;)

How long Wilder gets is entirely down to how the team plays. All the Bladey Blades (and probably some intellectual superiors) like his blunt honesty in interviews, but positive Nigel's interviews went down well until it became clear they were just meaningless soundbites that he had no clue how to back up. He didn't get sacked because he'd had the job for a year, he got sacked because he was doing a really shit job and turned a decidedly average side into a piss-poor side.

A lot of people on here last season were constantly defending Adkins, blaming the players and Clough's signings (something that still goes on now) rather than the manager being held accountable for his obvious failings, that's probably the only reason he lasted until the summer as he was already failing badly by October. Wilder's Blade status will get him some slack just the same, but if the end result is the same type of dross that Adkins was serving up then come the end of the season, Wilder will be under pressure. Try hard, but lose all the time, he might be gone by September.

Promotion isn't essential, but challenging for promotion (or at least competing to win games) is. This is a very poor division, you don't have to be a great team to make the play-offs in it, but you have to be fairly crap to aimlessly drift out of contention.

For Wilder (or any manager) to keep his job next season there has to be something to build on from this season. Clough probably should have got a few months more to try and build on what he had. Adkins had nothing to build on so got the chop. As long as Wilder is taking us forwards he'll keep his job, promotion or not.

no I dont think I want to be one of them, peopel say theyre arseholes on here ;)

I fucking hope so because the new manager search in the summer is the only bit of excitement we've had in the past 10 years.

If Utd show enough improvement over this season to last (in performance, player attitude and results on the pitch) then i think that CW will be given all the time he needs by the club. He would have had to have overseen one almighty fuk up of a season to get sacked at the end of this season. Contrary to popular belief i dont think Utd are a 'sacking' club. If you look at how many managers get sacked by other clubs Utd are no different really. Tell me how many of our local clubs have the same manager at the start of this season as the start of last season ?? One maybe. In truth whilst i dont think Utd go out of their way to be a 'sacking club' (Warnock for example was there 7 years and could easily have been sacked well before he finally got us up) i do think that they are just plain guilty of making some shite decisions on who they bring in as manager and they then have to ultimately pay the price and move the bad picks on again by sacking them. Since Warnock went i cant think of one appointment that i have personally wanted with the exception of Adkins...and he turned out to be a complete charlatan / disaster. In fact.i rseem to recall that many Blades wanted Adkins also as he was one of the stand out candidates. So there is always an element of luck involved in a club picking a new manager. Sometimes its just plain bad luck...sometimes you get the wool pulled over your eyes, but Utd have too often been guilty of going for the cheap and incorrect option (and expensive in the long run). Personally timings aside i.e. Blackwell, i can only think of one case in the recent past when i think we pulled the trigger a little too hastily (wilson). Other than that there were always mitigating circumstances why they went (fall outs or moving on to other jobs) or they were just plain underperforming and the majority of fans wanted them out. CW will get all the time he needs promotion or not this season, provided ceat progress has been made. As i have confidence in the man i think he will be our gaffer for a good few years and isnt going anywhere anytime soon.

Clough was a twat and Adkins was just fucking incompetent. Wilder will get us there but will need time. I hope he gets it.

Got me thinking last night, if things weere to go the way things did under the previous two, would Wilder get more time from the fans/board because he's one of us?

I'd like to think so.
After one League game we get these type of posts, I despair.

Why are you writing this post. We only had friendlys last week. Why do you preach such doom and gloom before the season has barely started. Its almost as though you are wishing it upon us . Have ever played football ? Do you know how a team works ? I get really annoyed with people on social media who just start a thread without any substance behind it. Is your next post going to be through the round or square window?
The man above despairs . I despair. Players must have a right good laugh when they read some things on here......Try and be constructive ................Please for all our sakes. You know it makes sense.

I very much doubt things will go the way of Messrs Clough and Adkins . But if they did I think he'd be given more time .

Mind you , the site was in virtual meltdown after we lost yesterday so fuck knows

If we're not promoted by Christmas, he should go....

Please tell me you're able to decide whether that post is in jest or not because if not you come across like the unborn foetus of a pig fan...

He came with a record of not losing games and he's lost a game. He should be summarily dismissed and we should sue Northampton under the Trade Descriptions Act.

We were sold a faulty model.

Depends on the fans reactions - for me it's more about seeing noticeable improvements in attitude and style of play together with a play off position - I don't think lack of promotion will get him the sack - Adkins actually took us backwards and paid the price!

It depends on how arsey Wilder gets at the post season lessons learnt review and why we have failed . McCabe just doesn't like being told its down to him.

If we go up all is well in the garden , then we start again . If we don't go up we all pay the price .

Wilder will be fired if we are in the relegation zone between November and January.

Otherwise, he'll be gone in the close season if we don't go up, as McCabe will need someone to blame.

He will only do more than a year if he gets promotion, which he won't with this squad.

If the players show they are willing to die for the shirt and Wilder can bring back that never say die attitude that we've been lacking for so long (which we didn't have at Bolton admittedly but it takes time) then for me he gets at least 2 seasons. Bringing Sheffield United back to life this season will be enough for me, promotion will be difficult with the transfer listed players hanging round the clubs neck, and selling our best talent (again).

I think the key will be how we look like we are playing,

if it's a case of you can see the end game but it's just not quite clicking, then time should be given, If like with Adkins, there was no semblance of even an idea as to what a plan might be... then you get rid,

from the first game, there appears to be a plan... get crosses in the box, be hard in challenges at the back (so already 2 up on last season...)
