seriously ?

my guess is no and whoever comes in will be faced with calls for his head after a few defeats ,brazilian style football or not

about time some united fans forgot about the premiership season and the parachute seasons that followed

soon as you get your heads round this we can move on as a club

what the blinding heck do you mean by "move on as a club"?

We'll be top 10 i think at best. We might flirt witht the play offs but thats it. Last season was a big chance missed, and think it yes, its about time we realised that were no where near top 2.

Dont think things will be better without Blackwell, but no matter what he does, some fans wont let up until he's gone!

I watched part of the Derby v QPR match on TV tonight. Derby seem to be rather like us at the moment. Some good players but lots of injuries and not able to perform consistently well on the pitch. Some of the fans in turmoil and the much-vaunted Clough Junior under pressure.

Nice to know we are not alone...

accept we are a championship club with championship resources and support the team like we did when we were shit ,vociferously wether backs to the wall or expected to win

I agree here, he won't please some fan's simple as, even if we start playing the beautiful game and lose every week or play it ugly and win every week, some fans wil not be happy either way.

if we play beautiful football every week then i for one will be happy because i can be proud of my team.. your argument contains an essential flaw though. you assume that playing beautiful football will mean that we will lose.. the current fortunes of football playing sides e.g. man utd, arsenal, barcelona, brazil would seem to suggest otherwise

Judge, if you aim for and accept mediocrity (or worse) that's precisely what you'll achieve.

I 've supported the Blades for many years and when I look at the teams that currently make up the Premier League I could weep with frustration.

I accept that patience is a virtue and, for what it's worth, I thought we tried to play "football" today.

I'll never accept that we are a Championship team when the likes of Hull, Wigan, Burnley, Blackburn, Fulham, Stoke, Birmingham, Bolton are above us.

The difference between us and Derby is that our expectations actually had some foundation.

Derby appointed a manager who took years to take a, relatively, wealthy Conference club up, he then nearly took them down and somehow based on their awful run under Clough last term, people decided they were going to be contenders this time round.

Clough is living off his family name and is, in my opinion, never going to make it as a manager.

We played football today and lost, no and thats not my point anyway. I'm just stating that if we did play the game marvelous and lost week in week out people won't be happy (Would you Honestly be happy if we played like Brazil but lost and were heading the foot of the table up? Would you still be so proud?), whereas if we won ugly people still cry out for his head because they want football.

>if we played like Brazil but lost and were heading the foot of the table up
umm.. yeah. maybe i'm weird though.. :-) and it wouldn't happen.. obviously you have to have a half decent motivated defence 'as well' which we don't possess at the moment

Not unless McCabe goes anall :D

Ok, lets say McCabe goes. Who will come in the replace him? Where will the club turn? There is no investment out there for a championship club, look at Newcastle, they have been on the market for ages.

You throw all these little comments on here without any thought to what might happen if McCabe pulls out of the club!

Would you please explain what you would expect to happen if he goes?

the truth is if we were playing good football with the resources we have we would proably be where we are now
win some lose some higher mid table -top 6 finish

i know for a fact some people at the lane would be screaming at the players to get it in the box

Not so much pretty boy football i`m after Judge, it`s just a matter of keeping possession better. Lump it tactics, blackies preferred option gifts it away.

The more we have players capable of treasuring possession, the less pressure on us, the more pressure on the oppo.

Simple really, just plonking it anywhere does us no good. One or two signs today that some players can actually hold onto a ball & give it to a colleague. Now we just need a full eleven who can do that.

i think youre missing my point im not defending blackwells style of football

i just think no matter what the style of play at the lane if we arent consistently winning people will get frustrated and eventually turn on the manager its been happening since basset and it wont stop no matter how well we keep possesion
it is the most frustrating part of being a blade for me

but coming on these sufc forums as much as i do i better get used to it and i cant wait to get back to bdtbl ,hopefully next week

Agree with all that, broomhill. I too saw distinct similarities. Cloughie is a media darling so will get away with talk about 'massive injury list'. Is this the new excuse du jour? Only October and it seems as if every manager is on about 9/10/11 players out.

Like Derby our fans are happy with any bone that's tossed to them (white t-shirts!) and likewise, if things don't go our way we toss our dummies (or t-shirts) out the pram.

Like Derby we remember our single season in the PL and assume it'll be a regular occurence.

Like Derby, we enjoy superb crowds which will dip by 6-8k next season if the current fall isn't arrested.

QPR - unlike United - know how to spend big money by CCL standards wisely. I doubt if they've spent any more than us.

They also know how to utilise the loan market effectively, getting young, eager players in (like Taarabt) who have attitude and an 'I'll show them they were wrong' way of impressing. Birmingham did similar a couple of years ago with Bendtner, excellent young players who simply can't break through because of the sheer strength of their clubs' squads. We seem to get (mostly) journeymen who were not good enough for their club.

QPR also have a young-ish, dynamic manager who knows how to harness these bright young players (including Leighterwood, who was very good). Unfortunately, we don't.

QPR are heading for a bright future. Sure, if they go up they'll struggle but for the moment they look excellent.

We (and Derby) are in freefall and either could easily join the list of Norwich, Leeds, Forest, Southampton etc. who thought it would never happen to them.

Like what your saying Judge and perhaps people will eventually come around to it. The chairman is the first one who needs to bang that drum though because he is the one who keeps doing the Europe in 5 years mantra.

Back 4 needs a sort out, Killer needs to be shown the door Jan 1st and dropped until then. I don't care who fills his boots because a player who doesn't want to be there is upsetting the entire back 4.

What should have happened when we bowed out of the Premiership is that we did one of 2 things.

1) Kept Warnock and went for another push back to the Premiership along with that team (minus Jags).

2) Re assessed and gone for a lower profile with lesser players and been happy to consolidate and built again over a 5 year period.

Hindsight is a great thing to have but we flew a little too close to the sun and got our wings singed.

Now we are a mid table championship club who used to have some clout. We have the manager we deserve and the players we deserve. We will occasionally flirt with the play offs and most likely lose and we will drop like a stone every now and then causing panic amongst all.

At least we aren't having to go to the press telling everyone there will be new owners and asking the fans to paint the ground though. :)

Jim Magilton - dynamic manager?!

Sure, QPR are doing well at the minute, but what did he achieve at Ipswich?! If McCabe accepted Blackwells resignation after the Play Off Final, and appointed Magilton, there would have been uproar....
