As we clearly now won't make the play offs based on sacking Clough for finishing 5th, Adkins has failed hasn't he?

I'm not advocating sacking him by the way but think the board will in the summer.

Sadly I can't agree with keeping faith in Adkins anymore, I haven't been to a game now for over a month, and I won't be going Saturday, I won't pay for shite boring football, I won't watch a bunch of players piss all over the club and fans like they are doing.... Adkins keeps saying how they're a good honest bunch of players, they're clearly not, theyre a bunch of players trying to relegate us and get the manager sacked, the worrying thing is that Adkins appears to be devoid of any ideas on how to get the team to play, can we really trust the guy with our future ? I'm shitting myself at the thought of this guy spending whatever we have and bolloxing up the next three seasons in the process, he's lost his mojo big style...

It might have seemed tiresome and it definitely got a lot of abuse but I've been trying to severely warn everyone about that very prospect for months and if the club don't take notice it will come to fruition, and it'll mean far worse times than we're experiencing now. Mark my words. Hope I'm wrong.

Everyone seems to be stopping just short of saying "sack him". Fuck that, I'm saying he should go, and I'm making a rational (not emotional) argument for that!

This season is the big one. It's no exaggeration to say we need to sign a new squad in the next transfer window! Does anyone here really, honestly, hand on heart, believe Adkins is the man for that? He hasn't just got it wrong once, he's got it wrong time after time (signing Billy doesn't excuse the rest of the mess). It isn't just the recruitment he's got wrong, he's also totally misread the existing squad and our needs from the start. At the very least, he should be removed from any decisions on transfer business.

But then... his management of the team has also been shit. He seems completely unable to motivate the players. this is the one area he is renowned for at other clubs. This isn't just poor footballers playing poorly (although that obviously is a factor), there are players out there playing poorly who we know can do it in this league, and the entire squad is playing shit.

My eagerness in sacking Adkins isn't about saving this season, it is about preventing the disaster that would occur if he were in charge of bringing in a dozen new players! I already know someone will ask "who should we replace him with?", my answer at this point would be "almost anyone!". Pick a fucking manager at random, the law of averages says we'll have a better chance of seeing some progress than under this guy (I should probably point out, I'm only half-joking when I say this!).

Oh for fuck's sake will you drop the 'I told you so' schtick, eh? If you want me to black cat you, I said we'd be in trouble when we sold Tony fucking Currie. I was about 11 then, so booga-fucking-loo.

Why don't you stop whining about how wronged you feel and start commenting on what is happening down at BDTBL? Or better still, open up a Barney forum. We'd all subscribe and come along. Honest.

Anyone with half a fucking brain (i.e. not the clappers) could see this train smash happening, so you aren't alone in your Mystic Meg horseshit.

This is pretty much where I'm at, he's completely failed to realise the needs and qualities of the squad, this despite deliberately taking seven months to assess it, and where he has brought players in, they've not exactly been impressive - Edgar's looked OK by default and Billy's probably a minor improvement over what we had, but I certainly don't want him to be continuing with the likes of Hammond if he's allowed another transfer window.

As for the actual football, the level of putting square pegs into round holes is even worse than Clough's attempts to fill the centre back hole

You say this and then say its the players getting adkins into shit. So isnt the problem the players? Yes adkins has made mistakes but sacking managers year on year has got us nowere.

To be honest it's either a player revolt, or they're playing as instructed and it's a clueless manager, isn't anybody else totally fucking confused that we have a good team on paper that can't play, I mean, they don't seem able to fucking play..

Sorry to say last night some fans were shouting for his scalp, I can say that since he came to the club our football to watch is just boring, I for one are not being entertained at any level, just no flair no attacking play. As paying customers we want to see this, I do even mind losing sometimes as long as we give it a good go. Look at Derby they wanted to see attractive football and in the playoffs, no mercy shown to their manager. We on the other hand seem quite keen to serve up dross and say give it another season, I'm sure when he's got his players we will improve, more like we do not want to pay more money to get rid of another manager. I do not think it matters which players we bring in next season the style of football will not change. Lets hope Adkins can also bring in players that are a lot better than the ones he has installed in the club this season, they do not seem to be working or helping him.

If I were on the board I'd be getting shut , and telling him now .

He's probably not a bad manager and has a decent cv etc , he's also hamstrung by the past mistakes we know about

However.

That's not the question

If I were on the board I'd want to deflect criticism , look to be acting positively , give hope , sell season tickets

I'd also sack him a week before season tickets go on sale , make false promises about the future , not fill the position until the time that historically about 80% of ticket sales have been made , release all the out of contract players , appoint someone who agreeable to being a puppet .. And relax

Additional, there's a post on here about how they've divided us as fans...

Is it...

A, the board?
B, the players?
C, the manager?

We know nothing, except that the team are not performing for the club, fans, or manager.... Something is very very wrong...

Shut up

I agree the manager merry-go-round has been a disaster for this club (and I've said so myself on numerous occasions). I don't think we should have sacked Clough (even so, I'm not ashamed to admit I was one of those who thought we'd done quite well to "upgrade" to Adkins).

I think all of us thought we'd done quite well to land Adkins, didn't we? But he's clearly not working. There is no sense sticking with a poor managerial appointment because of past mistakes. TBH, he's probably already been given more rope than he might have had if this were a previous season.

Don't for a second misunderstand me, I'd love to be wrong. I'd be delighted if you're able to laugh at this post at the end of the season because Adkin's has turned it around. I just don't see it happening, now or in the future for him (and this is the reason I think we should get rid. This isn't a kneejerk reaction, I was half-relieved he wasn't given money to spend in the JTW!!).

The board may not be ere in the summer!

Some people on this thread are applying rational arguments based on football in answer to the question.
Think we should know better than that !

Getting rid of managers dosnt work but keeping managers that arnt doing the job dosnt work either, my concern is how much it costs to get rid, regarding Adkins for next season a few weeks ago I was saying he needs this summer and next season, trouble is I am starting to wonder, is he a bigger risk than somebody else, I dont know, neither do the board and neither does anybody else, got a coin anybody, because its that close.

Weir had no previous experience, and it was obvious the job was beyond him
Adkins has 3 promotions from this league, hopefully we will give him the summer to rebuild.

And that stuff is right to take into consideration when appointing a manager.

Whether or not he stays has to be determined by our results, our performances, and his ability to improve us.
Unfortunately he's scoring negative figures in the three critical areas.

Yes i agree with that one.
But the rest under KMCs tenure?

The only two that have been wrongly sacked are Warnock & Clough.
The others - fair enough. I wonder about Wilson, but I struggled to get past the history at the beginning so never really got attached to him.
Its more pertinent to say the others should never have been appointed in the first place!

Very true, this season has been shit, the worst since we have been in this league.

I just think we would be better off sticking with this manager for at least next season.
Loads of players out of contract in the summer, lets give him the chance to build HIS side.

He has to be given chance to re-build in the Summer but you have to worry if he's struggling to motivate what he has got, despite the various reasons / excuses.

The thing that makes me really despondent is, although I wanted Clough to continue, I did think Adkins was the best possible replacement having made the decision to sack him.
We even get the appointments wrong that look right!

Warnock failed his task and has a 100% record of relegation in the Premier League. I remember after the Wigan match fans baying for blood and many were fed up of Warnocks constant excuses.

Totally agree with your previous comment. It made me smile. Even when we appoint the right man he turns out to be the wrong man.

Still think we need a priest to exorcise the curse.

And with hindsight how clever does that look?
