Agree....it is uncanny how we have all these crap players then when any are sold....they suddenly become our best player.

I'm expecting the same, if and when we sell Vini Souza or Anel.
If we sell either for £15 million, our fans will be saying we've lost our best player, they are worth at least £30 million each.

Jebbo, Osula and Brewster are all quite similar......they've all looked neat and tidy...with some talent
but at the end of the day......they all seem to struggle to score.

Amazingly our 3 most talented strikers have given us a grand total of 6 (SIX) league goals.
Brewster has 4 league goals, Jebbo has 2 league goals and incredibly, Osula has 0 goals,
Keith Edwards could score more than that in 1 month.
Works both ways. You get fans who won't have a bad word said about a player when he's here, but when we sell them, they suddenly weren't much cop.

Osula is 20. Last season he was clearly playing at least one division higher than he ought to have been, probably two. It's not reasonable to expect him to have been banging them in and it's no reflection on his potential that he didn't do so.

The key word here is potential. Not how good is he now, but how good could he be. Anyone telling you that Osula is the finished article now is wrong. Anyone telling you that his achievements so far tell us much about his future career is also likely wrong.

Agree with that, we just don’t know how good or bad he’s going to be. With £15m on the table, we’ve got to take it. It’s a case of a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

Agree 100%.

I would've loved to have seen him stay and develop with us but a good season for him this year would've been 30 starts and 5-6 goals. I don't think we can afford to turn down this sort of money for that sort of contribution this season.

Selling Bogle, Jebbo and Osula - 2 of which are PL goal scorers has just reduced the value of the club to investors. Had they been coached well we could be looking at £30m each in todays market. If HRH was expecting £90m for the club, its substantially less now.
Thankfully, for PA at least, that's not how it works. If it did, don't you think the club's value would have increased following the signings of O'Hare and Burrows?

It's a case of being offered 2-1 on a coinflip and saying no because "happy with my quid"

If you’re so confident in Osula’s ability, then why don’t you get some bets on him?

Great business this IF it’s reinvested into buying our own players and not loans… that’s justbthrowing
money down the drain

Burrows being mentioned is an interesting way to look at this. With Cooper they are both risks where we are buying potential rather than delivered performers at our anticipated required level.

This is exactly where Newcastle are with Osula.
We can afford to wager £3 million, they can afford to wager £15m both in the hope that it pays off.
Like Peterborough and Plymouth, we can’t afford the risk of keeping them if it doesn’t work out.

Pretty hard to get bookies to do the sorts of futures bets you're talking of (wouldn't even offer me something as simple as Luke Littler to win a PDC title by the end of next year when I asked in 2021), otherwise I would :)

Top Premier League goal scorer this season? 🤣

It's easy to be critical of young players, particularly strikers. Osula turns 21 on Sunday. At the same stage in their careers:
  • Harry Kane had 3 PL goals for Spurs
  • Olly Watkins hadn't played above League Two
  • Ivan Toney had one goal in 15 appearances for Barnsley in League One

Top Premier League goal scorer this season? 🤣

I mean if a doom merchants wants to offer some sort of realistic outcome that Osula could achieve, but one that they don't think he'll get to, I'm open to suggestions for a forum donation/charity bet

Mate, leave it. There's a group of blokes on here who seem to think they know more about football than the scouting department at Newcastle...

Osula at 19 in one of the worst PL sides ever, didn't score, so he's utter tripe.

Like I've said before, as a fan base we get the club we deserve, and based on the reaction of most on here, we deserve to have our best players sold year on year...

I share your frustration at how quickly Osula (and Jebbison, for what it's worth) were written off by a section of our fanbase.

I don't think Osula falls into the category of "best players" being sold. I think the deal we seem to be getting from Newcastle is pretty decent business for a club in our position. I wish we could have kept him and watch him blossom in the red and white but this is about how it goes for Championship clubs.

I like Osula. I’m sad that we won’t get to see his full potential with us and I wish we were more financially stable so that we could take a punt and keep him. But the money is worth more to us right now than his potential, unfortunately. If you were running the club you’d be right to sell at this price, even though it hurts.

As for the value of the club (as looked at by a set of investors buying an asset), this will actually have increased our value. Osula wouldn’t have been valued at anything like 10-15m on our books, but now we have 10-15m in cash/receivables on our balance sheet and a large profit coming into the club, which will also help with any potential future FFP issues. Not that I care too much about that as a fan in the short term. But just to address the point made above.

Having said that, It does make me wonder what the state of the takeover is though. You would have thought if it’s very close then PA wouldn’t be making any big calls like this. Suggests to me either a) takeover likely to only go through a month or two from now, or b) PA is seriously considering the possibility that the takeover won’t happen or that he might pull out himself and keep control. In either of the above cases, we need cash immediately to build a competitive squad for the first half of this season.

They absolutely will now a days with request a bets. Literally let you bet on anything you ask for as long as it doesnt have a negative outcome.

Whilst I don’t claim to have a better eye for talent than the Newcastle scouting department, I’m sure they’ve been wrong in the past!

The United scouting department know more than me, but they still fucked up with Grbic!

Well they didn't in this case, otherwise I'd be richer than what I am now :)

Maybe he will develop with us for a season on loan ?

Have you ever provided an opinion on a player that we signed or were linked with signing that wasn’t favourable? If so I’d be interested in knowing your credentials and why you know more than those involved.

And just a small point, Osula was 20 throughout all of last season. He’s 21 in 2 days time.

Looks like it's happening from what Wilder says.

Chris Wilder on Will Osula "There's been talk. Will's been out because of his concussion. There's been a lot of noise, we'll just have to wait and see on that one. We're in a club in a position that has to be careful we don't stifle opportunities for young players to go to huge Premier League clubs and if there is interest we make sure we get the best possible price. It's quite difficult to hold on to players when Premier League clubs come knocking, that attraction of the Premier League and a couple of quid is too difficult to turn down."

I really struggle with the idea that Jebbison messed us about.

We'd got a 6' 3", quick striker who played for England through various age groups and was on an incredibly low wage. He'd gone out on loan and done very well for his age (albeit at a lower level). All things that should've made us incredibly keen to get him tied down. Any sensible club would've recognised what an asset he could be and what a great opportunity we had to protect that asset at a price that would've suited both sides.

But no, we thought we'd stick with our strategy of not offering anything until the point where the player was holding all the cards.

To use a work analogy, we're like a company who only offers payrises when people hand their notice in.

Aye
Just remind us when we first started ‘negotiating’ with DJ about renewing his contract ?

I thought he had been offered a number of contracts over a long period of time and refused them all. Can't blame the club for that and jebbison is nowhere near good enough for us to throw money at him for him to stay.

It’s as simple as, it comes down to budget. We can’t afford to throw money at every young player in case they become superstars.

If the club got loads of young players under contract that turned out to be not good enough, the moan would be about wasting money.

It’s easy with hindsight to say what the club should be doing with player contracts.

Everyone seems to think that about a lot of players who've left...
