Swiss, this is a serious issue.

Next term we will be competing with clubs where the chief exec is expected to stock the shelves in the club shop and man the ticket office from time to time. We will be competing with clubs where £300k will no doubt fund the whole admin department for a season.

I have a deep and lasting respect for the work of this man and say so on a regular basis - it's the way he is on the ball, the way he communicates, and in no way am I suggesting he should take a pay-cut when he has an agreement in place, but surely somat has to be done?

Who is he and what does he do ? apart from occasionally sit with McCabe at fans forums etc.

I am possibly more dissapointed with this waste of a shirts efforts than I am with whats happening on the pitch ,to my mind hes all take and no give ,I am not aware of anything he has done or produced during his time at the club ,please advise me if anyone knows different .

hopefully not Mic.

It is time that McCabe brough Birch's embarrassing reign as Chief Exec to an end. What a legacy. 4 managers, a plummit down the league, mass losses, fast paced dismantling of the team and a relegation. He'll leave us with a tiny, yet vastly overpaid and poor set of players.

Thanks ver much Tricky Trev. NAR GET DI SEN FCUKED OFF!

think this one belongs to him: selling this seasons shirts for a fuckin fiver !!! what a joke, these pricks really know their market:thumbdown:

And this was bad why?

when i paid £40 quid at christmas for several shirts then a couple of months later you can buy for a fiver, need i say more, they obviously contracted to sell x amount of shirts, then not allowing for the fall in attendances due to no investment in the team, hence stuck with loads of unsold shirts

Given that the only Adult shirt available from the superstore is the 120th anniversary one, i think they've probably got very few left all.

who's going to pay more than a tenner for a shirt that will officially be the old one in less than 2 months time?

Well done Mic, I agree its serious. Thanks for highlighting this to the serious issues board. ;)

They do it every year, well done for boosting the coffers with your £40, they'e done the same for the last few seasons.

Surely Birch's role was to sell the club, however no-one has been daft enough to stump up the money McCabe wants. In other words its a waste of his/the clubs time being here.

So you paid over the odds before Christmas for (presumably) a Christmas present. That's not exclusive to Sheffield United. Did you call House of Fraser a bunch of pricks for having January sales?

Given that it was the end of February (roughly) that the shirts went on sale you can hardly complain. You've had the shirts 2 months before they were reduced. They only have 2 and half months worth of value left in them if you wish to keep up with current trends, given that the season ends soon.

I'm glad the shirts went on sale for £5, it meant I got one. And it meant a few people I know went and got the other shirt (home or away, depending on what they had already). It's a good bit of marketing really, they sold shirts to people who wouldn't have bought one normally.

its not good marketing at the beginning of the season though is it if they buy/order far too many? do you always buy your current shirt towards the end of the season, bet you shop at tescos just before they shut as well. being on here some days is like RS football heaven people throw the questions out then defend the club/management/board

It was that and managing the transition to running the club at cost.

Sadly, if you judge him by his targets, he's failed.

Relegation to L1, coupled with the high earners running to the hills and KM taking equity instead of debt, will mean the club is running at break even, so job 1 will be seen to have been done, regardless of the pain it causes us. The sale of the club, or the attraction of outside investment, will be far easier to achieve after yesterday's EGM, and I wouldn't mind betting the strategy was designed specifically with that in mind, so in a difficult climate where few takeovers have been completed recently, the jury's still out on that one. By the way he earns a little over half the £300k.

There are many clubs in L1 with significant boardroom structures. the days of directors doing the washing are long gone. TB will be here until he gets the job finished, or unless he gets a better offer. met him 3 times and he always tells it like it is as far as I'm concerned. I have no issue with him at all, and he's the only Board member with genuine football experience at every level rather than just in business terms.

I doubt the club will attract investors if we are relegated to L1. As Trevor Birch said at that meeting it represents another barrier to any would be investors who are only interested in reaching the Premier as soon as possible.
Yes, he is a nice guy but my guess is that he is hamstrung by certain circumstances and is having to peddle ever faster to keep the club viable.
He had, if you remember a certain brief for the next manager to aspire to and you would have to be quite mad to assume that Adams fitted those parameters...therefore he was usurped by a nameless person whom we all know.
That's my take.

Is there a single individual employed at BDTBL that this phrase doesn't apply to?

Errmm... The academy is doing OK. It's earned muchos bazillions through player sales and the current mob look promising too.

So Ron Reid (as was) and Pembo can have double peanuts this month. :)

Fair comments Mall - especially the bit about McCabe saying we aint having SOD.

What pisses me off about Birchy though is the apparant lack of regard he had when Blackie was with us about squad building. I'm not saying top brass should interfere in team matters but did he ever mention to Blackie that rather than rely on loans we are going to sign some youngsters? Obviously we'll never know but France, Nos, Ertl - I think these should have been questioned as not in tune with what was happening off the pitch. SHould Birchy say to a manager no, sorry you aint haing him? Don't know.

Tell Blackie to identify some young targets and we'll see what we can do. The Evans money (and to be fair he looks a half decent player) could have been used to sign a few players. I believe that as long as this policy was stated to fans with a cautionary note that we might not be competing at top end of 2nd teir then people would have accepted it as a necessary when McCabe quite understandably stopped putting cash in. I suppose McCabe and Birch did say this was the policy but as we know they have not carried it through.

If Birch does go cos we can't justify his high wages any longer and McCabe keeps his promise of hiding it out in Belgium then would that leave the fella who works at the carpet shop in Woodseats with far more influence on the day to day management of the club? Crikey.

I fookin did mousey, when I saw the gstar coat that I paid £180 for in November in January at £120!!!

A) They don't purchase all the shirts in one go, they purchase them at certain intervals.

B) I normally get the shirt for Christmas, but this season I got a different football shirt.

C) I shop at Sainsbury's.

D) Tesco is open 24 hours so it doesn't really shut until Sunday.

E) I'm not defending the club/board/management, I'm simply pointing out that you purchased a product when demand was high and that I purchased a product when demand was low. Hence why I paid less for a shirt than you.

F) Deal with it and move on. I bought a jacket for £150 which 3 weeks later was £90, I didn't whinge like a little bitch about it. Life goes on :)

Didn't Deadbat or someone like that hint that TB was deffo out on his ear at the end of the season?

I dont know he will leave; just a gut feeling after the fall out between the Adams/SOD fiasco coupled with of course the big debts we have and the further cost cutting with relegation.

I also feel like others he was charged with finding new investment and ultimately he has failed in this regard. Even Weds with a non financial guru in Howard Wilkinson running things (albeit in a far more dire state and granted he got the club cheap) managed that in Mandaric.

We will have cut costs dramtically I suppose which is what he was charged with in terms of the other part of his role and the wage bill will be lower than it has for sometime but conversely in giving contracts to Doyle, Collins, Cresswell, Simonsen, Quinn, Montgomery he has effectively further crippled the club in the same way the bumbling Robinson did to a much bigger extent with Speed, Ehiogu, Beattie, Naysmith, Hendrie etc.

I am not sure how his reign can be looked of favourably but then how much of he simply been a puppet with McCabe pulling his strings as the managerial appointment proved.

Birch is just Charles Green Mk II. The mans McCabes puppet and whilever he takes the shit he will keep the shirt. If he has a contract then perhaps getting rid of him would yield no financial benefit at all?

We aren't fucked because of Birch are we? He just sells who he is told to sell and takes on the man he is told to take on. Anyone remember his comments on our next Manager. It sure as shit didn't point to MA.

Nobody. I just stated I didn't whinge like one when it happened to me.

I still fail to see why Trevor Birch is a prick for reducing shirt prices, thus reducing the chance of having obsolete stock.
