Wilder's Reaction

At one point tonight we had 4 players against their 2 down the right, and 3 players in the box. That's 7 players beyond thhe 18 yard line, and we didn't even put the ball in the box let alone get a shot off. We just fanny about too much.. Its all too static.
Sad thing is we've been there before so it shouldn't be happening.

And some will be leaping in the air with joy, and coming down with a bang..

There will be no years of joy from me.

And I doubt that anyone else will be jumping through hoops either.

The undeniable fact is we are absolutely rubbish in every area of the pitch this season and I'm afraid the blame for that lies with the manager and coaching & recruitment staff.

No one wants Wilders reign to end so meekly but I cannot see any other way out for him apart from he holds his hands up and walks.

If his issue is a lack of quality then why did he not bring in some quality over the summer? It's his fault for not doing so unless he has no control over signings.
He could not have known that Fleck and others would be so bad and that we would have key injuries.
He was not in a position to bring in any players better than those who did well last season.

Said it before, but you cannot pick players like Robinson, Stevens and Osborn and then complain about a lack of quality.

Wilder has a system. I’m fine with that. He used to pick players that fitted that system (the most important being attacking centre backs). If you insist on playing decidedly mediocre players - who don’t even fit the system - you will get a lack of quality.
Nailed it.

Completely agree. It's made even more frustrating by the fact that there was a couple of moments with Didsy linked up really well with Baldock and got him in behind. It came to nothing but it shows that they still know how to do it. At our best we used to run teams ragged in those channels, just kept doing it until their defender's heads were spinning and eventually it would lead to goals. Now it's once or twice a match and leads to bugger all.

They've become scared to be what they once were.

Leicester didn't do too badly after sacking Ranieri did they?

We are not Leicester City FFS
We didnt win the PL last season, we dont have the quality players they had or the transfer budget or the wage budget they had
We are Sheffield United who five seasons ago were a L1 club who got promoted to the PL on a shoestring
Who the fuck do you think is going to come in and save us from relegation ? Big fat fucking Sam whose team have just been hammered 0-5 by L666s

We are getting relegated, the objective is to find someone to get us through this season to 12 points to avoid being the worst top flight sporting team in sporting history.

Wilder doesn't look like he can even do that.

We finished 9th last season so hopefully that shouldn't be beyond us...

Wages a big factor, but not all. In Premier League terms we are paupers and that has caught up with us. The lack of momintum we had is killing us. Wilder always got the best from this team. Almost the whole squad last season was playing out of their skin, with 31,000 Blades every week screaming them on. That's all gone now. It's not Wilder's fault that we have a lack of quality in my view. This happened before under Bassett as a precident. We developed players bought for next to nothing from division three. When they got too old or the magic Bassett resistance finally couldn't get anymore out of the players and we lost Deane we couldn't get the quality needed to plug the gaps. Admitedly we faired better than we are now.

Likewise, Wilder just can't get enough quality to make up for the difference in lack of form to Fleck, Mousset, and Norwood and the injuries to O'Connell and Berge, the loss of Henderson also. There's too many gaps to plug. That's my thoughts anyway.

What has the Leicester City scenario got to with that ?

I sincerely hope that he is targeting about 3 new players for this window. Robinson, Ampadu, and Osborn (unless it's left wing back) should be no where near our first team again.

I actually hope that they send Ampadu back early this window. Coward of a footballer.

Ampadu stands out as being particularly poor in the worst Premier League team of all time. I'd be shocked if his career is at this level.

As for Wilder... times up now. It's gone on too long.

Apparently if you want it crossed in early then it's just hoofball. I read it on here, many, many times

Yes it does. We have a legendary manager who was successful last season who may not be the best person to take us forward.
FFS as club we are poles apart from Leicester City ex PL Champions
They have a much larger transfer and wages budget, they are a much more attractive proposition when attracting players. We sacked Warnock and Blackwell (I was not a fan) and look how that turned out

What do people expect or want from Wilder?! He can't come out and slag the team off or he really would lose the dressing room. I thought all things considered it was a decent interview. If he'd come out like Mike Bassett most would be saying he's lost it, time for him to go. Without Wilder we'd be mid table Championship at best, and if we go back there (and of course we all know where we started under Wilder) than at least we've had some of the best football I've ever known at the Lane during the last three years and I think we need to cut the guy some slack.

Key players last season aren't even in the team this season regularly because quite frankly their performances don't warrant it. We're just not good enough right now, but blaming Wilder is very harsh in my view. You might say well who else to blame but he's got 100% out of this team since he's arrived until now and the league is just so unforgiving and we can't get the momuntum going. In many ways we're not far off, given we lose so many games 1 - 0, but the quality that players like Fleck showed last season is largely missing.
But it is Chris's fault the lack of quality is entirely his fault. He's wasted 100m+ by not bringing in better than we already had, we've got bogle sat on the bench when Baldock hasn't been ripping up trees has he. There's free transfers out there that would've improved us instantly Wilshire Besic just to name 2 that would've instantly improved our midfield even if we had just given them 12 month rolling contract surely better than having Jags on 50k a week and the invisible man Rodwell who I bet is surely on 30k?? This is all Chris's making and his stubbornness is now killing us.

I've seen many decent posts from you over a long time and you're fine to express your opinion, I'm totally playing with a straight bat, but I'm more a thick and thin type of supporter, I know he was the right manager for us and everybody agreed what seemed like 5 minutes ago, and I'll apologise if you know somebody who will come into the club, with our budget, and make an impact, I dont even want them to save us, just be better than wilder is.. So any name will do, but not many can name one.. Its nobody up to now.

I can't come up with a name of anybody who would be better..

I'm not ready to throw him at the minute, what he's done in the last few seasons is the stuff of dreams, he's worth a season in the champ and I think we'd have a belting season I really do.. I might be wrong but it's what I think..

If he walks because of fan pressure, there'll be a split fanbase, and some Chancer reject mug in charge.. We are not Liverpool, the best managers in Europe wouldn't come to us if we had a working goldmine under John Street, we don't have an oil well with our shiek..

(although PA has backed us, it's not a dig at him this, just making a point)

Wilder has played different players, different pairings, he has changed formation from time to time, usually mid-game, he's tried different types of substitutes. He brought in players that we could afford and were willing to come. Obviously he could have done something different at each turn, but otherwise I don't see Wilder as the problem. The entire team of dynamic superstars have turned to mush, collectively. He couldn't have predicted that - I think everyone and his dog expected a worse season than last season, but the absent minded mistakes, the dreadful finishing, the lack of courage, the tame pace, the poor passing and lack of desire to charge forward and have a go is entirely down to the players.

I disagree.
It was obvious JoC wasn't right - CW looked at Kongolo (who still isn't fit BTW), then decided what we've got is enough. It isn't.
Wasn't prepared to give Lunny what he wanted. Made a low-ball offer for Swift but when that got knocked back just gave up on another replacement.
Could have signed Toney or Armstrong but wasted £20m+ on Brewster instead.
Keeps going on about lack of quality, but who signed the majority of these players?

Watched the video and two interesting things first when asked if he thinks this group has gone as far as it can his face says it all. Between now and next season I’d expect wholesale change based on that. Also his face and comments when asked about covid brace yourselves looks like he’s expecting a fair few more positive results over the next few days.

You’d make Walt Disney blush if he were still alive with that pile of bollocks. Jags £50,000 a week? Rodwell £30,000 a week? Weetabix in hot milk legs Wilshire? Embarrassing.

Does Wilder definitely choose the players?
