Wilder's interview tonight

I think the forwards were lucky to get a free pass given Wilder was throwing everyone under the bus.

Leon was languid, slow to react and hardly won a header all night. Bereft of service yes, but forwards can also create their own menace but that does involve retaining the ball for a few seconds. They can’t just expect to get it on a plate.

Sharp ran around a bit, but posed no danger. He had our best chance and these are the fine margins at this level. He squandered it through poor decision making. Either square it - he could have dinked it over the guy sliding in, straight to Fleck - or play it across the keeper. Percentages. Going near post was never really on. It cost us the game as much as the poor defending. Tight game, one chance and he missed it.

FWIW, if I was singling two out it would have been Blackman and Baldock. The latter looked our only realistic outlet, even if everything didn’t come off.
I agree Champagne Baldock All though nothing coming off .

was our best outlet last night and Blackman was sound
Confidence and beleaf have been shaken badly as we have lost our consistency. What upset Wilder was the lack of drive through the entire team.He commented on players not taking responsibility naming o,connell and Basham not getting forward, that is a classical problem when be leaf and confidence is low.We have gone a bit more direct but the same principles apply, which mean he expects defenders to take attacking positions.
It's clear he feels we are blowing our chances and has thrown the gauntlet down in the hope of a response, last chance saloon for this season ,Reading is a big game.
He sounds a driven man and won't tolerate players who bottle it ,reminds me again of Harry Bassett who wouldn't tolerate weak minded players, like us he will tolerate a lack of ability but not weak minds.lf the season does fade away some of his signings will be gone,no manager gets it right everytime in the transfer market .
I imagine some players will be looking over there shoulder if things just fade away. Not saying it's shit or bust for these players but to lay down and die now with everything to play for.Wilder I'm sure will be looking for a response, when the going gets tough the tough ( mentally) get going.

I'd love to know what some of you would have thought if he had said fuck all in his interview. We cry when managers are not honest, yet he gave everything both barrels like what we were doing in pubs across Sheffield last night, nevermind the ones who went to see us not turn up.

As for Wilder being found out, were people saying this last Saturday. On Tuesday he made some great subs and did what most of us called out for.

Basham Gray? He was poor and his distribution diabolical. As was that of others. Baldock was the only one apart from Blackman who looked remotely good enough last night.

I certainly recognised Wilders comments about the strikers thoughts though. They never got a decent ball, they weren't even feeding on scraps as there weren't any. Clarke had a poor game no doubt but I thought Sharp put a shift in only to see the rest of them just give the ball to opponents or just hoof and hope.
I get your point Sean, Baldock probably was better on reflection. Basham as always put the effort in, didn’t hide and he got forward a few times unlike his fellow CB’s but yes I agree his distribution was poor.

You need to cut me some slack though, it was pretty hard to watch through my fingers... head bowed.

How exactly did Adkins manoeuvre CW into making his players mess up the simplest of passes? :)

Set his midfield up very narrow thus preventing our midfield the time and space it likes/needs to play with any fluency.

Not just Adkins. Pretty much every team we're up against knows if they deny us space in midfield we can't hurt them.

Not saying he's been found out. Just saying it's his first season at this level, and like the players, he'll have good games and bad games as he adapts to the challenge.

He's still by far the best man on Planet Earth to manage us, but the flip side of that is we're the best club for him to learn his trade at this level!!

We're as lucky to have him, as he's lucky to have us!!!

But I didn't see Hull really getting all that close to our midfield - we simply gave it away due to awful unforced passing errors and wrong choices.
In fact twice in the first half we created time and space to shoot and did so from way out, instead of playing an unmarked and overlapping (into acres of space) Baldock into a wide open penalty area.
And then when Fleck got a great chance from a throw-in and mis-controlled so badly that he couldn't even get a shot in from 5 yds out and in the clear :(

Disagree with that tbh ....... I think Clarke needs a rest ...... he's been poor for a few games now. Billy looked tired after Tuesday ....... I thought nonly Blackman & Baldock deserved paying tbh .... o_O

Team showed no composure, skill, attitude or bottle and that is NOT good enough for Tufty ....... or the supporters :(

UTB & FTP

I thought Leon ran his blood to water against QPR and looked quite fit. I agree his all round standard of play has dropped a little but I don't think I've ever seen him look so fit in his entire career.

Don't disagree with any of his comments and will be interesting to see how the players respond. I suspect though that losing to Adkins really hurt him. A couple of noteable comments in the interview about other managers putting spin on things and the state of the club when he came in. He would've wanted to see the players go out with full intensity and show how football should be played not the ambling incompetence that followed

So Chris is to blame as well as the team? Will some of you lot make your bloody minds up?
In my view, for what it's worth, Chris as manager and being responsible for the team and tactics, MUST shoulder a huge percentage of the blame, it was his team (new players) his tactics(or lack of) last night.
Another thing, regarding his interviews, I was really surprised at how positive he was after the QPR result, compared to say, his reaction after the win at Leeds, he was not at all happy with a very impressive result away at Elland Rd, but thought last Tues night was apparently OK?? Puzzling, when most fans could see the writing on the wall for a display like last nights.
Sorry Chris, you cannot have your cake and eat it, just by coming out and venting your pain ( and we all love him for that, we too feel the same) Your job, your decisions, as the fiasco last night developed, played a huge part in the debacle, your anger and disappointment is not a defence. Based on the last run of 4 wins in 17 matches, this clubs future in this division, and your job, would be under serious threat, but for the over achieving start we performed, thanks for that, we are safe, you deserve the chance to see this intriguing scenario through.
Good luck, we are all behind you, but you have to 'manage' us through this.

Ive no idea why you quoted my post, was it picked using a pin

Wilder's comments are from the heart, straight after the game and by his own admission he is emotional. Does that mean he regrets it? I very much doubt it and I think he'll stick to it for Monday's press conference ad otherwise it makes Wilder look like he just lost his cool on Saturday whereas in reality he meant what he said and its up to the players to say screw you now, we're good enough. Its decent man management from Wilder and I think we'll be much improved for Reading.

I think it’s a fairly calculated response from Wilder actually rather than it be pure emotion, which is why he recycles a lot of his Sky interview word-for-word when Radio Sheffield did it afterwards. For me it’s more strategic, and hopefully it has the desired effect.

We are 2 points off the play offs and Wilder knows the issues.

Everyone chill.
I'm chilled, If you are saying Wilder knows the issues then that says there are some, all we are doing grumpy is talking about it

The comments have to be a psychological game to get a reaction from the players. I can’t see what there is to gain from saying that the team has maxed out. If the comments were genuine then it’s simply a case of spitting the dummy out and sulking.

I agree with an earlier comment on here. Needs to have a look at his own decision making a little as well. Chris has a lot of credit in the bank in terms of being entitled to make mistakes....however....constantly chopping and changing players that have played well in the previous game is stupid. There’s no other word for it.

I think he’s trying to keep too many players happy. He has a big squad of players that all have a similar ability level. He has too many options.

I'm reading between the lines when I say, I think he looked pissed off about much more than the result. For me it could well have been about the sale of Brooks, and the subsequent lack of ambition that the club has if they do sell him. It fits in with the performance, the mood after, the hints at how this is as far as we'll get and also the fact that he's given him 10 [brilliant] minutes against Leicester in the last 3 games.

Reading between the lines, reading from another book more like!

There's no indication of that in the interviews at all, any of them.

Hull pressed from the front back. For a team who presumably practices/plays high-press in training, we're incredibly bad at dealing with it!

I guess it comes down to technique and quality of players, to a large degree.

I'll try to say it again but more clearly - the majority of mistakes we made were unforced errors, unrelated to high pressing.
We didn't seem to be able to control any ball we received, couldn't be relied on to find a team-mate with a long or short pass and made lots of wrong decisions about who we should try to pass to anyway.
The only thing I would put down to 'high pressing' from Hull was that they did get to any loose ball much quicker than we did:(.
Let's just hope it was more an 'abysmal day at the office'

If you had posted this last night rather than that drivel, you woudln' t have got any flack from me - just as Wilder may regret his comments today, so might you.
Thankfully I'm just a supporter of 40 yrs venting spleen and not the manager . My comments are unlikely to effect the team ... bad night all round .. On to reading , probably be thankful of another game in the circumstances

We can't play like that 2 games in a row. That's what i'm going with.

They had as many (if not more) clear cut chances...

Our success has been built on dominating

Totally. They pressed our CBs who duly kept hitting it long to lead Boots Clarke, then they packed centre midfield and Evans and Leonard didn't know what to do. Throw in Harrisblaes point about our poor passing and you've got a perfect storm. Sadly on the night Tufty didn't have any answers. Hopefully by now he's studied the game tape and has come up with answer.

Either that, or we take him at his word, that this group are maxed out and he spent the weekend playing golf and drinking Peroni...

Trouble is what if supporters take his attitude and say that's it then we'll stay in pub on a match day

I'd like to think one of the biggest learning curves for Tufty this year has been his dealing with the media. His honesty is fantastic but sometimes you need to learn to deflect and come up with some bollocks like blame the ref/pitch/moon cycles - a la Warnock, Mourinho etc...

Hammering the players in public is a one way street which never ends well for the manager...
