Wilder's England

With the recent call up announcement, it got me thinking..

What do you think Wilder's England team would look like if he got the management job tomorrow?

I think his aversion to blind sentiment would mean fewer England call ups for current blades than you might be hoping. Everyone there would be there in merit. I get that if england played our formation it might be worth calling up some of our players who know the system but remember that Wilder hasn’t always used the same tactics for every team he’s managed. I think he’d use the best tactics for the most talented players available to him and I reckon there’s a few players more talented than ours that Wilder would love to create an optimum tactic for.

Never even considered that he might choose such a unique system to suit the payers available.
I think he is adapting that system even now. Who knows if it is tailored to the players, or coached to fit the current circumstances?

Chris wanted to play two up front to get the best out of Billy. He worked backwards from that. We didn’t really have the CMs for a 442 so he went for two with Duffy floating, which gives the options of the high press or Duffy dropping into a three, depending on how the opposition was playing.
That meant no traditional wingers so how do we get overloads? Play three at the back to allow the full backs to play as proper wing backs and then get the wide central defenders to come from deep to add to the numbers.

Do we know that Gomez and Mings can sprint 40/50 yards every 2 minutes and put a great cross in?

The way I heard it from CW was that he wanted to play two up front to get the best out of Billy. Obviously there are a number of formations that use two up front but CWAK came up with what they did to suit the rest of the players as well. As I said in my first post, our midfielders weren’t really suited to a flat four. I heard he’d used 4231 before but that didn’t really suit our players and wouldn’t get the best out of Billy.
Look at it this way, Billy is a championship striker (at least) and if you’ve got a championship striker in a L1 club it makes sense to set your team up to get the best out of him. The beauty of what we did is that it got the best out of all the players. It suited Coutts, it suited Duffy, it suited Fleck, when we dropped Basham back he looked made for the role. It even made Freeman look good.

Well, he's stuck with our L1 and Championship players in the prem, to a large degree, so hopefully he'd bring them to the England squad.
Obviously the irish lads would have to be swapped out, but other than that, game on.

International football management ain’t for our Chrissie. Could you imagine him trying to implement a system of play, with all the prima donna’s coming from their clubs playing different systems. But saying that in 3/4 years time all Prem clubs will be playing the Chrissie Wilder way........so maybe

Be interesting what his approach to building/maintaining team spirit would be.
Always thought the big challenge for England managers has been creating team identity and spirit. This is because you only have the players (and not always the same ones) together for about 8 times a year, usually for about a week at a time unless there’s a tournament.

Wouldn’t get the chance as he would look to build a team and pick unfancied players based on them doing a specific job.
Anyone with baggage, media shitstorm or attitude needn’t apply to play for his team, so that would see the back of several “contenders”

The FA like their “yes” men.
Old Gaz isn’t doing a bad job, and he’s given debuts to a few from nowhere, but he ruined it for me when he started picking Chelsea players without good reason. Let’s see some consistency and delivering against the best...let’s stick those kids in the 21’s and have a clear plan of replacing players at the right times. (And JOC hasn’t done enough yet either BTW)

Wilder would be good for English football IMHO, but as we know the FA aren’t genuinely interested in that.
