Bit bored so thought I'd throw this out there. A best 11 and bench of players that we have signed and played when Wilder has been our manager.

Rule 1. The players have to have been signed and played for Wilder. So the likes of Ndiaye can't be included as he never played for Wilder, even though he was signed when Wilder was manager.
Rule 2. Players like Billy, Bash, Coutts, Hamer etc who were signed before Wilder was manager or while Hecky was manager cannot be included as they weren't his signings.

Henderson
Stearman-Egan-JOC
Baldock-Lundstram-Norwood-Fleck-Enda
Clarke-Mcgoldrick

Subs: Blackman, J Wright, Berge, Osborn, D Brooks, Duffy, BBD

Lundstram starting ahead of Berge and Duffy?

Have you got your tin hat ready?
I was going to put Duffy in because of that championship promotion midfield of Duffy, Norwood and Fleck but I went with Lundstram in the end because of how good Lundstram, Norwood and Fleck were as a midfield 3 in that first premier league season.

Like our defence that season it pretty much picked itself every game.

This lineup and bench is just my personal opinion (though it does feel strange to have a CW starting 11 without Bash and Billy in it), be interested to see what you guys would pick as your best 11 and bench of CW signings.

No place for Oli Burke ?

One the most entertaining footballers I’ve ever seen .. in a sort of Mr Bean kind of way

In fairness if we're having a best signings XI we've got to have a shite signings XI. Spoilt for choice.

Blackman
Retsos - Bryan - Henneghan - Hussey
Holmes - Leonard - Carruthers - Thomas
Wilson - Washington
Beat me to it but Zivkovic is hammering on the boss's door commanding a starting place

Seems he is really good at recruitment to me.

With that, you've defined the criteria as being Wilder's signings when they were at their peak, rather than an overall assessment. You've got Lunny in there, for example, based on a purple patch of about half a season (which is fair enough, if those are the rules). For me, on that basis Mousset walks into the side every time, he was outstanding during that same period.

If you don’t have Berge in this you’re straight up thick.

Wilder put together the three best midfields I've seen in my lifetime, and Berge wasn't in any of them.

Coutts Fleck
Duffy

Norwood Fleck
Duffy

Lundstram Norwood Fleck

He didn't sign Coutts though, so the first one doesn't actually qualify for this thread.

Honourable mention for James Hanson. Not better than Clarke or McGoldrick but who is?

All decent (lundstram questionable) but none had the talent that berge did.

Best midfield we’ve had is:

Berge, Doyle, ndiaye (if you’re counting duffy)

Good point, I think if CW had signed Billy rather than Adkins the year before. You could say Billy would have beat them all.

If I listed all of the strikers who played for CW based on what they did in his teams I would put it like this (just basing it off 2016-21.

From best to joint worst:
Sharp
Mcgoldrick
Clarke
Mcburnie and Mousett (as they were joint top scorers)
Hanson and Donaldson
Brewster and Robinson
J Wilson, Washington, Done (he scored 1 goal and didn't play much in our centurion team)

Don't think I've forgotten anyone but if I have let me know.

How would Berge (£20 million) get ahead of Fleck, Duffy or Norwood? Even Lundstram pound for pound was a better signing than Berge.

Berge wouldn't even get on the bench for the money we played for him. 1 good game every 5 isn't worth £20 million and 30k a week.

The Coutts-Fleck-Duffy midfield is the best football I've ever seen a Sheffield United team play in my lifetime. Dominated teams from start to finish. Such a tragedy Coutts never played in the Prem for us.

isn't it consistent that most blades managers best and worst signings are always top heavy with poor b terrible ones…and we are trusting CW to rebuild😳

Every manager has a load of bad signings thrown in to the mix though, that's just how it goes.

The Wilder poor XI covers 11 transfer windows, when we were in League One, had one of the lowest budgets in the Championship and then the lowest budget in the Premier League. It stands to reason that there are plenty of players who didn't make the grade.

For instance, Hecky only had three windows, when we were much better off and able to sign much better players, but you can still make a team of bad signings...

I'd bet you could do that for any manager who had more than 1 season at the club. I'd hate to see Warnock's!

Said it before not enough is said about those who make a quiet impact. Hanson, Marvin Johnson, Crainy and the kid who scored against Oxford whose name escapes me, he was that annonymous
