Other popular tattoos I used to see in the late 70’s/ early 80’s
What about the swift tattoo on the hand, swifts were incredibly popular ha ha
L,,O.V..E and. H..A.T..E tats on the knuckles or simply home made dot tattoos on your knuckles.
MAM and DAD tats wrote on the back of each hand
Teardrop tattoo near the eye or cross on your forehead.

Was the swift obligatory for SYPTE drivers in the eighties? They all seemed to have one.
 
I've had tattoos 45 years never would have one on hands, neck and defiantly not face, the guy likes the tattoo not summat I'd do.

My grandad had a swift, a topless women and a rose tattoo on his arm....was the fashion for older people.
The skinheads and mods had the other tattoos, love/hate, mam/dad, teardrop, spiders web tattoos....often home made.

Tbh, I was going to have a Blades one when I was younger but I didn’t look 18 at the time. By the time I did look 18 I realised I could buy beer in pubs so spent my money on that instead. As I got a bit older I just thought ‘if I ever change my mind about having one, I can’t do anything about it’ (you couldn’t really in those days and some of my mates were already regretting having certain ones done) so I didn’t bother.

And there were some dodgy tattooists around, one mate had an eagle done in Blackpool and it looked like a budgie. Another had the grim reaper done in Broomhall (yes it was him, for those that know) and the hand holding the scythe looked a bit odd.

Different times.
 
Football tattoos are up there with tribal and names of loved ones, fucking awful.

Just makes me think of a friend's Dad, it's like bingo, he had the swift, a rose, a topless woman, a spider web with spider and an anchor.

The tear drop signified time in prison.

In the 70’s bad lads used to have a ‘Borstal dot’ which was a small blue ink circle, near their eye. It was to show off about having been to borstal. It also had the effect of making meek ordinary lads like me and my mates shit ourselves.

My dad told me it was traditional for servicemen to have a Swift if they had served on a ship. He was Royal Engineers and later 6th Airborne, but got it done because he got evacuated from Le Havre on a Destroyer.
 
A mate of mine had a much shittier version of this done in the early 70's!

So I’m sat round the pool In Andratx, Majorca. Five star resort and more have tattoos than don’t, how things change 🤔
 



Is that the guy on FF ? I feel like having one but my mother wouldn’t let me glad I didn’t
