Wilder out after 1 game lol wow some of our fanbase are shameful. there isnt anyone out there who can get the best out of our team in this division come back to this thread at christmas were the results will speak for themselves this teams practically the 92 point season team once it gets clinical i would argue its stronger once we get wingers who wanna take players on

i do believe the slight adjustment i would make is to switch the wingers more and have the full backs underlap so it creates spaces for the cross and adds a player into the front post
Don't take drugs kids!

In regards to fitness I think there's a few things at play here:

1. Natural athletes. We have very few athletic players. All the top teams have strong, quick players littered throughout the squad. Seriki is the only natural athletes that comes to mind - I expect we have the slowest squad overall. Wilder has a preference for scrawny kids who lack pace - Peck, Burrows, Cannon, O'Hare, Bamford.
2. Lack of discipline. When you have a key player in Peck being arrested for drink driving shortly before the season starts, you have a problem. Elite athletes don't touch alcohol, but when your manager is well known for being a regular down the local pub, and talking about his 15 gins at awards ceremonies, you're going to have a problem.
3. Tactics. Or the lack of. We sit deep, we spend a lot of time hitting it to the channels, and basically giving the opposition the ball. We then spend large portions of the game chasing the ball due to lack of shape which is obviously going to tire them out. I imagine we do a lot more running per game than other teams and this isn't because we're super fit it's because we're constantly chasing the ball after giving it back to the opposition.
I agree with points 1 and 3 and absolutely not condoning peck drink driving and he probably regrets it. But what does wilder having a few beers have to do with anything? 🤣 Elite athletes do sometimes indulge from time to time whether it's alcohol or in haalands case a kebab pizza (10/10 choice from him tbf) especially if it is off season

We knew this needed major overhaul since the finish of last season. So we sell Brookes and Hamer for a combined fee of £14 million. Not massive but surely enough is bring a couple of half decent players in. Am I wrong?

All fair points, playing devil's advocate, the amount of 1-0's we held on to in the 24-25 season, you could say, was due to conditioning to see a game out?

The fitness issues that season were down to us not getting enough players in during the summer window (the ones we did were largely successful) due to the takeover. We lacked basic depth.

This resulted in us running our small squad into the ground by November/December/January which ultimately cost us automatic promotion. The above wasn't helped by key injuries to Arblaster, Souttar, Moore and Souza. Souza came back from injury eventually but he was never the same. We made January signings (mainly loans) but none of them had been playing regularly with the exception of Cannon who has obviously been a dud so far for us. Pot bellied BBD in particular looked a mile away from his previous incarnation when he would've been on most people's wish list

This season we haven't got enough players in, and the ones we have got in haven't arrived early enough (Doherty, Donovan aside). Same sh it, different season. United are repeating the same issues we've had for 5-6 seasons.

Athlete athletes don’t drink. They’re usually tee total.

We prioritise being one of the lads and fitting in with the clique over athleticism.

I despair at the views of some on here. As others have said, we've just sold our most creative players which Wilder wouldn't want to do, especially given he won't get the same quality of player in return. When the window shuts we can then evaluate where we're at and even then any manager has to work within the restrictions of the club he manages.

Last season how many times did fans say we were set to be relegated only for us to finish some 13 points of the highest placed relegated team. The signings of Bamford and Riedewald on frees were masterstrokes.

Wilder is now having to rebuild a squad capable of promotion with a reduced budget and having lost his most creative players. It's no easy task. Look at how Leicester got relegated for how it can go horribly wrong with poor management decisions. Look at us too with Selles!

My position is that I didn't want Wilder back second time, and definitely didn't want him back for a third spell.

However we are where we are, and now is not the time to be changing managers.

Unless we are in relegation trouble at any stage of the season we should stick with Wilder until at least next March/April time when hopefully we be planning for season 27/28.

At that time we should be looking at both the management structure and the playing structure for the following season based on where we are.

I think stability is often underrated and we have made the decisions for this season so as I said we are where we are.

I wouldn't have appointed Wilder but with his past record to sack him after a few games would be ridiculous.
I agree with much of this, although I’d be inclined to make a change earlier if we don’t look like we’re making progress or playing well.

That way a new manager will have some time to work with the players before making a decision whether they fit in with future plans… and ideally bring in new recruits early in the window!

Finally caught up with this thread after a weekend away, and it’s worth noting that CW does seem to get a lot of get out of jail free cards seemingly based on his first season here.

I didn’t want him back for the third time, but equally, he is part of a wider problem, seemingly throughout the club off field also.

For reference, Cannon gets a lot of stick on here, everything from being useless to non-existent (playing with ten men etc), and it all sounds familiar to another expansive young striker we overpaid for.

Cannon is young, learning his best position and feeding off scraps. Yet, he needs removing from the club.

CW has been here before, knows the club, knows the financial situation, knows what we need, and knows the players, yet his approach is consistently baffling. I’ve raised this several times that even in the 92pt season, we were on thin ice, and our inadequacies were found out in the worst way. There was no plan B.

CW has come out and said we can address these issues this season, but 2 weeks from the window closing and we have key positions missing starting players, and being linked with players CW knows only. It’s like he’s trying to reinvent past form by hiring past players, and not recognising that the game has moved on.

And yet, to some he is immune to criticism due to his past success. It’s a free pass.

A point at home isn’t to be sniffed at sure, but to look and say, “well we lost last season” doesn’t cut it. We still have no plan or shape, and seem to be again relying on “star” players like Donovan and COH to make something happen.

Eventually, those get out of jail free cards will run out, and we’ll need to align as a fan base behind a structural change top to bottom, and the patience that requires.

Unfortunately, our owners tried and got burned, so have less money to try again. Even extending his contract shows we’re in this for the long run already.

I don’t think we’ll go down, but equally we’re not doing anything special this season.

Selles wasn’t given the chance to even use his targets and signings, he’d gone by then. He was the wrong choice but I fail to believe that literally everyone apart from CW can manage this team.

I don’t think most people are saying Wilder is the only manager who can handle this team. What they’re saying is that, right now, we need a manager like Wilder someone who can manage the club properly on and off the field.

If we had a better budget and a recruitment team that actually knew what they were doing, I don’t think anyone would be devastated to see Wilder move on. I agree that in the season we missed out on promotion, there were clear signs of tactical naivety. When he was sacked, I was one of the fans on here who supported the decision; but in hindsight, I think I was wrong.

Wilder deserved last season to see if he could put things right, get a few more of his players in (like McBurnie etc) and if he couldn’t, then ideally we’d be starting this season with a clean slate and a new manager. But that’s not the situation we’re in.

Who was slagging off the wins?

I was saying we haven't been a fit side for a long time.
But the last 3 games, Bochum, Mansfield and Birmingham, didn't we keep going for the whole 90 mins instead of fading away after about 65/70?

So at what point does quoting Wilder having fit squads, and saying I don't believe he does considering how we were clinging on plenty of times 2024/2025 (and threw away 30 points 2025/2026)... doesn't relay I'm moaning about the squads fitness.

Ok, i'll hold my hands up.

We look very fit.

Very few are saying no one other than CW. It’s just difficult to see anyone doing a much better job. That said we need to be reviewing come November as he hasn’t used whatever resources he has come then we need to use the rest of the season embedding a whole new approach and not wait until the end of the season.

I’m not asking you to give up… just move on. It’s called opinions.
