Wilder on next season

All players are replaceable .
I can see 8 to 10 going with Wilder showing a ruthless streak finished though to build on this seasons remarkable assault against 18 wealthier clubs.
The defence has shone out this season.
McDonnell has been a rock . The way the season had to end with the rapid games coming thick and fast proved to unravel us a bit . Our lack of experience in this league showed a bit. I reckon we lost 6 to 8 points as we lost our momentum and our game system unravelled and the flow we had only came out in 3 or 4 of the last 11.

We need some experienced players
But we need a goal finisher that will get 12 to 15 a season at this level above all else.

Have loved having Sharp and mcgoldrick
this season but it's time to move on. Both are another year older and we need more greyhounds than saint bernards

Both Bash and Lunny would not be as effective anywhere else. I think the latter will be lower Champ in a season or two if he does not resign here. Bash could get one big pay day but would Burnley or Newcastle (two rumoured suitors) pay a lot out in wages for a 33 year old.

Both need to ensure they are not daft as they only need to look at Duffy to see how it can all unravel but football is a short business and will be after a pay day when their value is the highest - especially in Bash's case.

Sharp will not play much next season. I saw his contact as more of a loyalty for what he has done. He certainly is not going to start much, if at all moving forward. I think we need two new strikers if we are talking about really improving. McBurnie and McGoldrick have good games but are too inconsistent and do not score enough or threaten enough as lack pace/power. They will still play some games and have a role but we need two new strikers really if we hope to emuluate this season - the defence will do well to repeat this season again especially with Henderson possibly not going.

Juts not sure how you can bring in the quality without spending 40-50 million. We spent 40 on Mousset, Robinson and McBurnie and non have shown they look to be Premier League quality to start and do well consistently with only the latter probably part of plans moving forward. So its going to be tough but that is where we must improve. Our defence is top half Premier League but our attack is Championship in standard.

It will most likely be Lunny.

Basham keeps doing interviews and going on about how he loves it here. I'd be very surprised if Basham leaves as I doubt he will have amazing offers from elsewhere.
It’s Egan

Surprised people have missed the bit about raising funds..

Won’t be a popular take but with Osborns performances since coming in and Flecks season today I think Fleck may have a few suitors and could very well be sacrificed for the good of the squad.
I love Osborn’s work rate and determination, but a long term replacement for Fleck?0D33AD07-9B57-4B07-A8BD-ABBE00BD7188.jpeg

Assuming that Swift is a done deal, then I think we need 5 more players to come in, in order to be equally as competitive next season and probably kick on again.

Firstly we need to prioritise the keeper situation, whether it's getting Henderson back in or going after someone like Foster.

Then get a quality CB to push all 3 starters - assuming that Jags leaves and I expect us to keep Robinson as cover.

Then get a decent backup for Baldock.

Then it's 2 strikers. 1 with Mousset's characteristics (unless Zivkovic is that player?) and another target man. McG has been great recently, and I expect him to be our top scorer next season, but a little competition is good. Sharp and Didsy will still be around and play a big part as squad players too.

The midfield will be fine with Norwood, Fleck, Berge, Osborn, Freeman and Swift. We might even keep Rodwell around the place, just in case.

McBurnie will be premier league quality. I don’t see him being replaced, Mousse is definitely premier league quality but also happens to have an issue with attitude and now also an issue with Wilder and we know only one man is coming out on top in that situation.

I do think we need to strengthen in attack but don’t see McBurnie not starting as the main striker

If Lunny goes then I don't think he's irreplaceable, he's looked pretty average in the recent games, whereas Berger gets better and more composed.

Bash on the othr hand, he was MOM for me today, and the player of the season in my view. I'd be really sad to see him go as others have said. He may be 31 and soon to be 32, but he's had such a good season and I think we need to strengthen elsewhere without needing to buy a replacement for Bash, and I think we'd struggle to find a player of equal quality within our budget. But, hopefully this is just a rumour and he'll re-sign in the next few weeks!
bash is already 32 in May. He was fantastic today and its unbelievable the progress he's made in his 6 years at the blades. Playing in this formation I can see another 2 years but who knows maybe the plan is to change it around and back 4 looks like Baldock - Egan JOC and Stevens to me

Perhaps the plan is

Goalie
Baldock - Egan - JOC - Stevens
Norwood
Berge - Fleck
Didzy
Mcbernie - Plus 1

Foderngham, J Robinson, Osborn, Sharp, Basham, CM, CF, Mousett, RSD

Sorry to go back to this but who are the contracts in question then?
Have we narrowed it down to just Lunny and Egan?
Not Baldock and Bash as well?

If he does - he has to be much more consistent - he goes from 8/10 to 4/10 game after game. The last two he has been really poor after a few great games. He needs to get physically stronger for me to be the main striker as the ball comes back too often.

£200m spent with just 10% sold is madness for a club of Brighton's size.
But if that’s over 3 seasons, they’ve taken in possibly £350m revenue in that time.

I don’t think it’s quite as daunting as the headline figure suggests.

Think that is a bit simplistic.

Had we stuck with playing a number 10, we might have scored 10 more goals but conceded 10 (or 20) more. Then we could say that we need to improve in both areas rather than just attack.

Our formation this season has made us solid and contributed to our great defensive record, making our back 6 look quality. It has also stunted our attack and made our strikers look sub-par compared to players like Ings and Maupay. I think that should be factored in when judging our attack and defense this season, I think that our strikers have all delivered and took their chances besides didsy (who brings something different).

Can't see Bash, Egan or O'Connell leaving, I think the players he's referring too are more likely to be on the fringes, Callum Robinson, Luke Freeman, etc, and Lundstram because he's fucking us about.

Good players that will attract offers lower down, Lundstram might get in at a Prem team.

Obviously there'll be offers for our CBs but they're irreplaceable on a budget imo, they're so integral to what we do that if either Bash or JOC went it's new system time or pay huge money.

I'd go

OUT (for money)
Moose (by the looks of things, hope not)
Lunny
Freeman, L
Robinson, C (can see Norwich going for him)
Moore

LOANED
Eastwood
Dewhurst
Slater etc

IN
Swift
Number 1 GK
Striker (quite expensive)
Striker (punt)
RWB
RB
CB
Zivkovic again?
DM/Utility MF
Number 10

It's simplistic but also the reality is that if we don't score more goals next season then we won't get close to repeating this seasons exploits. The defence, probably without Henderson will struggle to match this season in terms of clean sheets/goals conceded IMHO. Our strikers have done ok but not sure teams like Southampton or Brighton are creating tons more chances. It is the weakest area of our team.

Is seems to me that if we do the same thing again next season we could do as well. This season wasn't a fluke.

Brighton in particular play a very expansive, attacking style of play. Players like Mooy, Gross, Trossard and Jahkhanbash compliment this. Surely it's fair to give our strikers some slack given that they are playing in a defensive minded team. They are forced to work incredibly hard defensively and don't have creative players to make them loads of chances.

When Lundstram comes on, the expression on his face tells me he thinks he's doing us a favour.
He can cough for me.

(I'm being polite)

Not convinced by Osborn.
He's been Poor the last 2 games.
That would be an all mighty backwards step.

I think we need to look at finding some long term replacements/competition /cover for JOC and Bash (especially Bash). Players in there early 20s and late teens from lower down the leagues who we can mould into those types of players over time (unless the academy has some in the pipeline).

As mentioned above we need x2 Attackers to challenge Mcburnie and Didsy and then a combative midfielder (like Ndidi if we can find a gem like him) and then someone in attacking midfield to pick up the ball with pace and control and drive with it.

Then if I'm being super greedy, we are going to need some competition in the wing back areas.

The squad needs to evolve over the next year to ensure that we are equipped to stay in the Premier League over the next 5 years.

Some of our better players may leave, some will stay but will need replacing in the next 2-3 years.

We may be able to raid the sides that have been relegated for some ready made Premier League players but the majority of recruitment will again be either proven Championship players or emerging talent.

I just hope everybody understands this and Wilder is given time to restructure the side rather than running out of patience with a new signing after 3 games.

We may well end up finishing further down the league next season as a result of new players bedding in but it won’t have to mean that we’ve “gone backwards” or “been found out”.

In fairness to McBurnie I think he’s running on fumes and has carried the can post lockdown - probably why he’s getting hooked early in the second half of games at the moment. He’s having to do a hell of a lot of work and has done it admirably in my opinion. He definitely has bits to work on and I feel he should be more aggressive and forceful but I think he has everything to succeed.

They have new 2 year contracts

Agreed.

I also get the feeling that he is carrying an injury and playing through the pain. No doubt we will find out in due course.

For us to move to the next level, McBurnie, and I hate to say this because I rate him, will have to take a seat on the bench.

It's a possibility McBurnie may very well have the ability to become a top striker but this season he hasn't been consistent enough for me. His attitude towards the club seems to have improved however, his behaviours at the beginning of the season made me a little sceptical about him

Sometimes it feels like we get too attached to players, hesitant to want to bench Sharp because of his dedication and attitude towards the club and it resonates with us fans. His playing days maybe over soon but his career at the club is very far from over. Mcgoldrick is another, he's kept his place, rightly so, because his work rate is through the roof and he can create chances, but a goal scorer we are sorely lacking.

I respectfully disagree.

I think McBurnie is an excellent striker, we need to create more chances for him. This is his first season at PL level, give him time and he will prove himself.

I take your point but we don't know the full story either Deadbat. For example, using the Duffy example, most of our fans were disappointed with Duffy and/or agents actions at the end and we commended Wilder for not pandering to agents. But the other side was that Duffy wanted clarification on his contract and seemed to want an extension rather than a wage increase. I can see both sides here, but Duffy told the story very differently to Wilder, as he would do. It's not to say I disagree with Wilder's original stance that he's in charge and that players or agents don't come to him to negotiate first, he comes to them, but I can't believe that others players haven't done similar and yet are till with us. Maybe there was more to it again, who knows.
