Seems to be a lot of hate for Adkins, all I can think it's born of what we all expected from him when he took the job not coming to pass.

He didn't do the job and paid the price for failure.

His reputation now has dropped further because of this, as a football manager that's your main asset so he'll struggle to get another decent appointment, at least for a while.

I don't think getting sacked from United is particularly damaging to a manager's career these days. We're considered slightly less flakey than Leeds.
