Andrew Oakley: I think Wilder deserves the chance in the Premier League and Southampton would be a brilliant fit. Brilliant manager with promotions from the conference, League Two and League One with three different teams. Can't see

outhampton should take a gamble and go for an unknown manager. Chris Wilder has proven himself in the championship. Why not him for the new job?

him wanting to leave Sheffield United though as promotion could still happen.

Just 2 of many pieces of news wanting Wilder to save Southampton.

Personally i can't see him going and why should he. Still a chance we can swap places with the South coast club.

Hmmmm, I had a quick squint at their forum and there's very little talk about Wilder. They all seem to be suggesting Hughes or Bilic, There also more attention being given to the likes of Rowett and other "also rans"

I wouldn't lose any sleep over a couple of BBC spews.

We've already got a thread on this mate. But Wilder is highly unlikely to go there. Southampton far more likely to go for Marco Silva, Gordon Strachan, Ronald Koeman, Mark Hughes Eddie Howe, need I go on.

As much as we all rate Wilder and know he is an outstanding manager, his stock outside of the lower leagues isn't that high. He's also 50 and I actually think we might be able to keep Wilder for many years. We're more likely to be at risk from losing Wilder if a bigger club from the Championship with big money comes in for him. IE - tin hat needed here - dirty Leeds. Maybe a relegated PL side at some point.

I know there's a line where people purposely misunderstand thread titles but I thought this was about Wilder needing patience

Unbefuckinglievable turncoat ;)

I think it is unlikely to go but I wouldn't be surprised if West Brom wanted him to replace Pardew

Sorry, but would have to disagree with that. As great a manager as Chris has proved at this level, I would not say his skills are at keeping a struggling side in the Prem. They'd probably be better off with Nigel Clough to earn dogged 0-0 draws and the odd 1-0 win etc.

Think some Blades are wearing rose coloured spectacles.

The facts show that Wilder is probably the LEAST experienced manager at this level (Championship). How can any managers career or players career be judged on only 30odd games. This level is all new to him and he’s learning as he goes along.
However at lower league and non league level I agree he’s proven himself and would be in big demand in league 1 and 2.

There’s no logic whatsoever why a PL club would be remotely interested unless it’s a punt based on intuition
However with multiple millions at risk then clubs rarely go for random untried and untested punts.
They prefer the safe, tried and tested options or go for a big name to galvanise the fans (Wilder is neither).
The latest trend is appointing unknown foreign coaches, suspect its because they accept short term contracts and don’t get involved in transfers, unlike their British counterparts who prefer to be managers instead of coaches.

Years ago managers like Wilder would have been given a chance to work their way up
But big money in the games means Chairman cant afford to take romantic risks anymore .

Aye I can't see that now but if they got relegated and in the summer they want a new manager I could see an approach but I don't think Wilder would leave to go to them anyway.
