Wilder isn't the issue

Whichever way you look at it, we've ended up with a situation where we play a unique system and don't have a decent back up for a really key position in that system. Not having a JOC back up is really poor, we didn't need Max Lowe, but we do need a LCB.

We now have a situation where we've built a team to play a particular system, but are missing a key part of that system. We're struggling to adapt formation because we simply don't have the players to. So we can't play a decent back 3, or a decent back 4. That's a serious error from Wilder.
This is so right. God, and so frustrating.

The thing is, when we go down (and it’s not an if at the moment) why, all of a sudden, will Wilder then turn it all around in a blaze of glory in the Championship? Let’s get real, Berge, Mousset, O’Connell, Brewster will be sold. And his record in the transfer market is questionable to say the least. I’m half expecting him to resign Geoff Horsfield in January. If we go down with the lowest points total ever, are you telling me within the space of two months he will turn the malaise, bad blood and titanic low confidence around and take us back to former glories? I’m not convinced. I honestly do want him to stay and turn it around this season but he is becoming his own worst enemy. Stubborn, pig headed and I hate to say it, defeatist. If he’s saying to the players in the dressing room to keep it tight or they will piss all over us, what confidence does that give the players and his opinion of their abilities? Please don’t turn into Warnock Mark 2 on his Premier League autograph tour of 2006/7.
Is this post a piss take? You do remember being in league one don’t you? Do you remember the real malaise and bad blood and the toxicity of the club? Do you remember the man who single handily turned it around? And you question this man because of a bad 4 months when we are dealing with circumstances such as fans not behind allowed in, our 3/4 main players out?
Seeing some of our fan base and I use the term very loosely turn on the best manager we have ever had makes me sick. It doesn’t surprise me though modern day football fans absolute tossers!

The pisstake is thinking that anyone will take Brewster & Moose. We have now confirmed Sir Chris’ weakness....spending big money...don’t include Sander as I get the feeling he just said ‘yes’ on that one.
However, this isn’t time to want our greatest ever manager out of the club...

Wilder isn't to blame imo. You have to look at the bigger picture. You can't win a game of cards if you aren't dealt a good hand.

  • Henderson - Arguably one of the greatest keepers we have seen always going to be big boots to fill.
  • JOC - We look more attacking when he's in the team, his runs down the left hand side, creating overlaps pulling players out of position allowing others to get into space, crossing balls in causing havoc, injured, not replaced for whatever reason, and even if we brought someone in there's no guarantee he'd be as good.
  • Mousset - Our top scorer last season, and our only bit of pace from a player who can create something on his own, example: against Man United.
  • No fans - COVID-19. We haven't been the same since having no fans at stadiums, you can umm and arr about that but the stats back it up.
  • Fleck, our main source of both goals and assists last season missing most of this season.
  • Lundstram, throwing the toys out of the pram, do you think Wilder thought we'd be in a position where players started getting greedy so quickly? The only issue is Wilder should have done what he did to Duffy, I think he's unsettling players.

Then you look at our results.

  • Wolves, two goals down after 10mins, game over.
  • Aston Villa, man down after 12 minutes (wrongly), went on to lose narrowly, 1-0.
  • Leeds, I thought we were the better team for most of the game, lost to a lucky 87th minute winner
  • Fulham, started slow, improved 2nd half just lacking a goalscorer. Mousset could have been the difference.
  • Arsenal, never expected to win, played decently enough to narrowly lose, should have been playing against 10men for 85 minutes.
  • Liverpool, never expected to win, played well, narrowly lost
  • City, never expected to win, lost to a long range strike.
  • Chelsea, never expected to win, worst performance of the season.
4/8 games against the "big" clubs where we would never be expected to win games.

Spine of our team out injured/no longer here/not adequately replaced.

If you believe Wilder is to blame looking at all these points, then sorry but. Have your head tested.

How dare you come on here with your sensible posting based on fact, truth and candid self awareness.

You heretic!

This is the place for knee jerk bed wetting, emotional outbursts, throwing our entire leadership under a bus and swiping right to vote our misery away!

In all seriousness - what's the play here? Sack Wilder? What happens if/when we get relegated? We're back in the Championship with a manager who may/may not have a track record of managing in that league. Norwich have it right with trusting in Farke. Wilder would be the best manager to bring us back up - end of.

Chris Wilder could have found his level but I think we have to give him this season to find out for sure even if we do go down which looks more and more likely. With the players we have can you see a new man changing anything this season. Let it play out and if need be plan for a promotion straight back next season with Wilder.

Wilder isn't responsible for everything that's true, but he's becoming more and more detached from the guy we all know and support.

Last season his messages were far more positive, far more aggressive. Now it's like what can we do about it, they have better players than us, we can't compete with these teams, we can't go toe to toe etc. Get a grip Wilder, we did this last season so why can't we now? Why so negative? This mental approach transmits to the players and is clearly having an effect, it's like saying they are no longer good enough to play these teams and it's all wrong. Last season you told the players to stop seeking autographs and go and take it to them as they had earned the right to be in the Prem. This season you are waving the white flag and have become defeatest, why??

Sheffield United boss Wilder to BBC Sport: "At times my teams are naive. It's irrelevant. We have given away some poor goals. I think we have to look at ourselves.

"If you give handouts to world-class players they will take their opportunities - which they did. It's no good opening up then as it could be any score."

"It's no good opening up then as it could be anyscore" Fucking 4-1 is a good result then?

WTF has happened to us this season.
This. He sets the tone, determines the character of the team and that is the single biggest change this season. We’ve gone from annoyingly energetic new kids on the block who didn’t respect anyone to a team that looks beaten before we get going. His post match interviews this season have been awful. Win or lose - show some grit.

I agree with that. He’s done too much to deserve the sack. However, without a complete reversal in form and tactics we are heading back down. Therefore I’d give him the chance to bring us back up and have another go at the PL but, if that happened he’d be gone if the same thing happens. He wouldn’t be the first manager we’ve had who was great at getting us to the top flight but simply couldn’t cut it when we got there.

Lunstrum should not be anywhere near the first team he wants to leave plainly obvious.im my opinion this is not fair on the other players.
This could be a reason for the bad start to the season. Oconnell is a big miss another reason and injuries to other players.
No fans are a massive factor as well.yesterday at Chelsea the home side played really well. Lampard says the best performance of the season.
Wilder is correct we can,t compete with most sides in the premier league.however the fighting spirit has gone and confidence is low
After the international break, we must start to pick up points and I think we will.all us fans have to get off Wilder back and leave it to him.
In Wilder we trust.
UP THE BLADES.

Not a key board warrior just shocked at how fickle some of our fan base are! I am also allowed my opinion and posts like you made talking about Geoff Horsefield and comparing wilder to warnick are in my opinion complete and utter bollocks!
There is a little word which I have used over the last 24 hours it’s called loyalty some on here need to look it up and take it in!

I’m not fickle, if you have read my post you have seen that I said I want Chris Wilder to stay and turn it around. Please don’t call me a tosser and say my post is a piss take, it’s not. Its just my opinion. Chris’s transfer dealings haven’t been the best, please feel free to disagree, I like a debate but not something that just becomes a pointless argument with no winners. I don’t want to sound boring but I’ve been a season ticket holder for forty years, been to hundreds of away matches and spent thousands, watched us getting drubbed along with any good times so fickle and unloyal I ain’t.

Those transfer dealings have taken us from bottom half league one to the premier league! Every transfer we make is a gamble we cannot afford to go out and buy a top quality premier league player so we have to buy very good championship players and hope they make the step up! All these people saying our transfers have been poor, who the hell do you want him to realistically bring in? We have had 4 months out of 4 years and look how people are reacting it’s complete madness and if you can’t see it I can’t help you!

Problem is, some people’s loyalty to Wilder is blind and already they are focusing on next season expecting us to be relegated. A defeatism case study.

Personally, although it’s a challenge, I think Wilder will keep us up as he has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt and perform. And I can’t think of anyone who would be better for us this season.

But as said elsewhere, the Club is bigger than any single person and we should be allowed to discuss it on a forum.

We are very disappointed with the start this season, the damage may be done already. And should we go down and lose this opportunity, then it will be interesting to see who is held accountable.
