Wilder isn't to blame imo. You have to look at the bigger picture. You can't win a game of cards if you aren't dealt a good hand.

  • Henderson - Arguably one of the greatest keepers we have seen always going to be big boots to fill.
  • JOC - We look more attacking when he's in the team, his runs down the left hand side, creating overlaps pulling players out of position allowing others to get into space, crossing balls in causing havoc, injured, not replaced for whatever reason, and even if we brought someone in there's no guarantee he'd be as good.
  • Mousset - Our top scorer last season, and our only bit of pace from a player who can create something on his own, example: against Man United.
  • No fans - COVID-19. We haven't been the same since having no fans at stadiums, you can umm and arr about that but the stats back it up.
  • Fleck, our main source of both goals and assists last season missing most of this season.
  • Lundstram, throwing the toys out of the pram, do you think Wilder thought we'd be in a position where players started getting greedy so quickly? The only issue is Wilder should have done what he did to Duffy, I think he's unsettling players.

Then you look at our results.

  • Wolves, two goals down after 10mins, game over.
  • Aston Villa, man down after 12 minutes (wrongly), went on to lose narrowly, 1-0.
  • Leeds, I thought we were the better team for most of the game, lost to a lucky 87th minute winner
  • Fulham, started slow, improved 2nd half just lacking a goalscorer. Mousset could have been the difference.
  • Arsenal, never expected to win, played decently enough to narrowly lose, should have been playing against 10men for 85 minutes.
  • Liverpool, never expected to win, played well, narrowly lost
  • City, never expected to win, lost to a long range strike.
  • Chelsea, never expected to win, worst performance of the season.
4/8 games against the "big" clubs where we would never be expected to win games.

Spine of our team out injured/no longer here/not adequately replaced.

If you believe Wilder is to blame looking at all these points, then sorry but. Have your head tested.

He’s to blame in as much as he continually tries to fit a square peg into a round hole.
That and this ‘staying in the game’ bullshit! We look better when we try to move forward... see the first 10mins of tonight’s game.
Throughout history... every team that looks to park the bus just brings the opposition onto them by giving them nothing to worry about! It’s negative, it’s soul destroying, it promotes weakness!
That being said... I have every faith CWAK WILL sort this out!

Whichever way you look at it, we've ended up with a situation where we play a unique system and don't have a decent back up for a really key position in that system. Not having a JOC back up is really poor, we didn't need Max Lowe, but we do need a LCB.

We now have a situation where we've built a team to play a particular system, but are missing a key part of that system. We're struggling to adapt formation because we simply don't have the players to. So we can't play a decent back 3, or a decent back 4. That's a serious error from Wilder.

Looking at the results. It wasnt bad luck that we were 2-0 down to Wolves. We were awful defensively and have been all season. We cant defend from set pieces for some reason. Against Villa, Egan got himself sent off by holding on to their striker when he was clean through and Lunny missed a pen. That's not bad luck, again it's poor play. I will give you Leeds, but we should have taken our chances. Fulham we were lucky not to lose that one. I would have expected more than 1 point from 8 games against anyone in the league.

I'm not saying Wilder should be sacked, but the excuses we have are terrible. All teams have injuries and all teams have no fans. As you say, why play Lunny if he doesnt want to be here?

Look, whatever the circumstances I'm failing to see the logic that we can't criticize Chris when we lose but it's all his doing and he should be worshipped to high heaven when we win.

Fair's fair. He's a football manager. They live or die by their results. We've lost 7 out of 8 this season, so far. Given we 'can't possibly compete with the top teams' you can I assume add another 10 losses to our 7.

But insert excuse after excuse here. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

Time to face up to the facts. We're in trouble and we need to do something urgently to halt this run. There are extenuating factors, sure, but have they impacted on us any worse than any other club?

To defend Egan it wasn't a red

Wilder isn't responsible for everything that's true, but he's becoming more and more detached from the guy we all know and support.

Last season his messages were far more positive, far more aggressive. Now it's like what can we do about it, they have better players than us, we can't compete with these teams, we can't go toe to toe etc. Get a grip Wilder, we did this last season so why can't we now? Why so negative? This mental approach transmits to the players and is clearly having an effect, it's like saying they are no longer good enough to play these teams and it's all wrong. Last season you told the players to stop seeking autographs and go and take it to them as they had earned the right to be in the Prem. This season you are waving the white flag and have become defeatest, why??

Sheffield United boss Wilder to BBC Sport: "At times my teams are naive. It's irrelevant. We have given away some poor goals. I think we have to look at ourselves.

"If you give handouts to world-class players they will take their opportunities - which they did. It's no good opening up then as it could be any score."

"It's no good opening up then as it could be anyscore" Fucking 4-1 is a good result then?

WTF has happened to us this season.

We signed Jack Robinson as back up, I know he was relatively cheap, but he’s still cost the club money.

In today's game it was. He shouldnt have been holding him.

In todays game it isn't a red and they have admitted as such since.

Although we are beyond the point of bemoaning bad VAR decisions.

It is all on us now that we are in this mess.

We've had him long enough to know whether he's good enough, clearly not. When we play someone out of position, just so Robinson doesn't play, you know we've fucked up..

It's all about opinions mate, I thought the ref got it right, but I forgot they since said it wasnt a red. For me Egan was being skinned for pace like at Newcastle last season where he was off as well. Lunny still should have scored the pen and we could have won or at least drawn.

Agreed, Robinson isn’t good enough but he’s probably the reason, along with the Lowe signing that we didn’t sign a replacement for O’Connell.

I don’t know if you can blame Wilder or not. Our budget dictates we can’t spend big on back up players and we need a squad, but he clearly wasn’t good enough for the Premier League.

General consensus, despite last season, is that Wilder is the best manager for us next season in the Championship.

Maybe he is. I hope he’ll keep us up where we earned our place.

But I’m not so keen on the Wilder Uber Alles tone on here.

The sad bit is it's Nov 7th and you are talking about the championship.

How Wilder handles the issues is the issue. We played fairly well for much of the first half today despite them, then in the second half we abandoned any concept of attack, then surrendered completely with some atrocious substitutions that gave Chelsea even more control, and it's not the first time this season that we've gone all negative after half time. There's nothing he can do about individual poor performances on the day, but he does have the power to change tactics and personnel during a match if they're not doing what he wants. If that second half was what Wilder wanted then it really would be an issue.

But, he mucked up the transfer window, didn't replace JOC when he knew he was injured in the summer, is picking the team and assigning the tactics. Therefore, he has to shoulder some of the blame, just as he rightly got the credit for past success.
I'd go as far as saying JOC is irreplaceable

I think there's a strong question around our system. It was great for us until first lockdown and we've largely struggled since. If we keep playing the same way and go down, I'm not convinced we'd come back up if the plan is to just play the same way forever.

Our system has been largely sussed and it only really works if we're full of confidence and flying in terms of pressing and giving everything. We're doing neither at the moment. Without that it looks slow and ponderous. our left side has been woeful since first lockdown. All our attacking play is coming down the right. All the opposition need to do is get one their CMs to drift out to the left and it clogs it up. We simply never attack down the middle.

The thing is, when we go down (and it’s not an if at the moment) why, all of a sudden, will Wilder then turn it all around in a blaze of glory in the Championship? Let’s get real, Berge, Mousset, O’Connell, Brewster will be sold. And his record in the transfer market is questionable to say the least. I’m half expecting him to resign Geoff Horsfield in January. If we go down with the lowest points total ever, are you telling me within the space of two months he will turn the malaise, bad blood and titanic low confidence around and take us back to former glories? I’m not convinced. I honestly do want him to stay and turn it around this season but he is becoming his own worst enemy. Stubborn, pig headed and I hate to say it, defeatist. If he’s saying to the players in the dressing room to keep it tight or they will piss all over us, what confidence does that give the players and his opinion of their abilities? Please don’t turn into Warnock Mark 2 on his Premier League autograph tour of 2006/7.

Erm did you watch the Fulham game?
I know....I thought the same.

Against Fulham....impressive 1st half...one of our best halves of the season....could have been 2 or 3-0 up...high tempo..very similar to last season performances.
2nd half....the exact opposite....Fulham looked so superior to us....and we looked knackered...very worrying and lucky to gain a point in the end.

Altho I do agree with the rest of JLX points....we’ve played most of the top teams so far.
The main factor for our struggles is the loss of O’Connell....as it’s breaking up our defensive unit which are proven to be consistently so solid.
It was the same in tnr Championship...didn’t O’Connell miss about 3 matches and our defence went to pot then when O’Connell returned the clean sheets started.

There are numerous factors playing into our current predicament, that is without question. But I must say that Wilder seems to have gone into his shell, both tactically and how he views the game.
I am getting a bit tired of hearing how good the opposition are and how we can't compete on the same terms at this level.
I have always said that I would follow this bloke into a war, but he seems to be showing opponents far too much respect at the moment, and it is rubbing off on the players.

As mentioned his general demeanour this season is a massive contrast to last season (first half) were we had a go at teams. tried to be positive (were possible) and took the games to teams in and around us.

Now we try to keep games tight. BTW we always concede at least 1 goal EVERY game now (before lockdown it was less than 1 per game) so that means we need to score 2 to even have a chance of 3 points. Which wont happen as we are simply not capable in this system of scoring more than 1 at the moment.

If Wilder doesnt change the system in some way then he will be sacked by Xmas. PA cant afford to let us go down with a wimper. His loyalty is to SUFC and he needs to make a decision that he feels will give us a chance of staying up here.
