Wilder interview

I actually don’t mind this comment. What we don’t need is to spunk the Brooks money on a panic buy.

The problem is, we’ll still have that problem in January and next summer. The value of players is only going to continue to rise, so what do we do?

He said there will be no perm signings in the interview.
Yer that’s what he said, and he also said that we had brought in 5 new signings that have made our squad better? Can anyone name the 5 he refers to?

Once again gets short and irate with the interviewer asking basic questions. Just comes across as rude at times.

Yes, his interview was not good tonight. i felt the presenter let him get off light but he still rudely snapped at him. We have lost both games handily and been given a right going over. Not sure what he expected too be asked?

We also as fans expect that we would sign some more players as that has been the impression even Wilder has given. His responses were very angry and gave confusing messages after saying we had bid for players, not touched the Brooks money etc.

However, I am more concerned that he feels it is just about poor goals or set plays as he sees it tonight. Boro could have been 1-0 up after 30 seconds tonight. We barely laid a glove on them in the first 20 minutes. Swansea on Saturday could easily have won 4 or 5-2 if they had taken their chances. I am worried if he thinks it is just down to odd mistake. We are getting outworked and outrun all over the field at the moment. If we cannot win those battles, first and second balls then of course teams will get chances, win corners, get oppourtunity to hurt us on set plays. I want to see some fight from this side again. We look a demotivated mob at the moment.

Strange how I always feel better after listening to this bloke.

Be reyt, a busy few days ahead for him though!

Scouring the bottom two leagues for benchwarmers.

Because out of the Walker/Maguire and Brooks money, that's all he'll get. We've several ex-managers to pay off, don't forget. And an expensive, protracted court case.

pommpey

The only crumb of comfort you can get from that interview is CW saying he thought we looked better with Duffy and Woodburn on and that would give him something to think about for Saturdays teams selection. Hopefully he will see we were much better with the changes and start both of them.

On the transfers he implied we couldn't afford to bring in a permanent before Thursday. He seemed to be referring to wages and said there was no-one else out there on a permanent, presumably that we could afford, that would improve the team. He said he was wanting to bring championship standard players in but would have to wait on loans. He also said no-one was going out.

Not sure if its bluff or just resignation that we've chased the wrong targets either way it seems Billy is staying and our search for a striker will go on until the end of the month.

Guessing
Henderson > Blackman - Not so far
Egan > Stearman - Not so far
Bryan > O'Connell/Stevens - Not so far or he would have played him
McGoldrick > Donaldson - Not a lot in it so far
Woodburn > Brooks - Not seen enough really

Small sample size but on the evidence so far we have got worse - albeit only on 2 games

No permanent transfers. No targets. This is either an elaborate wind-up to cover his business or incredibly depressing.

Why bother trying eh?

Its not a wind up as Wilder tells t as it is. Lets hope we can get the loan signing/s in or we are going to be short up front for sure. I don't agree with all the Leon bashing though, he is inconsistent granted but he still scored 19 goals last season and when he gets 1 he usually gets more and he looks a much better player.

If Chris does think he has picked the best team then he must be seeing something in training because that midfield ain't doing it.

It's a worry but I have to trust the guy. He's earned it.
I agree Chris does deserve respect not all this effing & blinding by some other posters. Also do any of us know how long Duff s legs can last ....we all know he can't play a full game. If it's 45 minutes does he start him then sub him at half time ? Or play him in 2nd half as an impact sub ? We aren't a team of championship expensive & classy perfect players ... which Chris himself would prefer as would make his life easier. He is doing his best with what & who & how long their legs will last players. He sees them all week in training & tries to get players like Waghorn in. He can only do what he can do & deserves respect at acquiring a champ team on a budget.

After defending the Swansea performance a bit I'm trying not to be a complete hypocrite, but I'm baffled as to why Duffy isn't getting a start.

Not only was he one of our better players last season but when he came on tonight we actually held possession (thus relieving many of the defensive issues) AND we actually created chances.

If he feels we need Lundstram and Evans (don't know why we would but...) then drop a striker and play 451 because without Duffy there's nothing connecting our side. We don't hold the ball. There's no movement in their half. We don't create. We don't press. We get forced to play it long.

We have to play an attacking midfielder and at least do the attacking and high press that we're good at.

First half we chose to sacrifice our attacking threats and were shite at defending anyway.

I agree the board ain’t helping but he does have a decent budget (by United standards) which he is choosing not to spend.

He says in the interview he could take a punt on a League Two striker. Surely we are at the stage where we need at least one more striker and if you don’t have the budget for your first choice you have to take a punt on lower league or even abroad?

I ain’t saying blow the lot but why not gamble £1m - £2m? We certainly won’t be any worse off this season!

I agree. The situation with transfers smells fishy to me.

Just pure negligence if we haven’t had other targets in the works.

Clarke doesn't look to be putting the same amount of effort in as last season so far.....it's alomost as though he think McGoldrick does a lot of running around, so he doesn't have to bother anymore

Still thinks he made the right team selection. Deluded Chris, you are part of the problem.

What he thinks privately could be different from what he says publicly.

At the moment, I'm more than prepared to cut him some slack. He deserves that. We all know his record over the past two seasons. The fact that we are where we are and have higher expectations than we thought possible just a couple of seasons ago is largely due to him and the players, who play to the system he has decided upon.

But these days, in the words of Bachman Turner Overdrive, "you are only as good as your last record". We are two games into a new season and I agree that performances and results have been very disappointing.

However, it is only two games. And did anyone really expect us to win both of those games. I didn't. If I'm honest I hadn't got a clue how we would do against Swansea. A win would not have surprised me, but a loss wasn't a shock either. You can call me negative, a cap doffer or anything else, but I expected us to lose at Middlesbrough (and that was before the Swansea game). So, as I see it we are probably around a point away from a par score for the two fixtures.

The performances have been disappointing, but to call Wilder deluded at this early stage of the season when his past performance tends to suggest that he isn't, seems to me a bit harsh.

If things carry on as they are now for several more games I will be concerned, but I think Wilder has earned the right to be allowed a few adverse results and performances. Two years ago our early season results were poor and the performances patchy. Some were saying he was out of his depth and we were doomed. He proved emphatically that they were wrong. I hope he does so again. there is the chance that he won't, but I'm not going to jump off any buildings just yet.

The point I’m trying to make: Chris Wilder has taken Sheff Utd incredibly far in 3 years.

We have now hit our ceiling without further, proper direction and investment from the board.

I know what you were getting at ;):D

The unfortunate thing is we are where we have always been with regards to money and investment.

in the interview on radio before the match he was still saying we stood a chance of getting in a perm transfer nefore the window, he said bids in for 2 perms and 2 loans.........that has all changes rather quickly

Hoping for better on Saturday.

No more from me on this for now. Fucked off and likely to get more fucked off the more I think about how utterly, astonishingly poor we were.

And funnily enough its the same ones now as then plus a few lemmings

Match fitness is a big concern. We lack sharpness and aggression. We were slow out the blocks last season as well so maybe its part of the plan to build up slowly. To be fair to Staton he did talk about desire and some players being too comfortable. That seemed to throw CW a little and he responded by saying he believed he had an honest bunch and we'd see on Saturday.

There's seriously something rotten going on at the club, if so.

We've paid a fee for one player and if anyone believes the transfer record lie they need locking up.

As for fat man. Fat man will get better when he's had a couple more games to burn off his summer. He'll be nowhere near his tally from last season though. Age and shitter colleagues.

He gets to play every game at the moment as Sharp and McG not comparable.

What did you want him to do after getting asked the same question repeatedly , sing Were on the march ?

The presenter actually rephrased the question as Wilder had said players had not being doing their jobs on set plays; so asked it he felt that also was down to complacency. I thought all the questions were fair. He could have got a worse ride. We are rock bottom after 2 games and the manager has now said we are signing noone and noone will be coming in, after having weeks and weeks of saying how we have bids in for players. It was an odd interview. He came across as quite rude and argumentative and tried to create an almost siege mentality for himself against the radio and the fans. It was heat of the moment stuff though and compared to Warnock etc was mild mannered.

I am Wilder's biggest fan and know internally he will do what he needs to do to turn it round but I am a llittle concerned that he feels it is just down to poor defending or missing chances. Our overall work ethic, pattern of play, organisation and attacking intent has been really poor so far. It is not simply about a couple of odd mistakes for me.

S11, I think we all agree that CW has been a revelation! but his interviews are now sounding like many others, churned out by other recent United managers. I want the honest, straight talking CW back, who reflects on the game honestly and says it has it is! e.g.
