Some bullet points of what he said tonight

Goals we conceded were unacceptable

For us to go from how we played at Bolton to this is very disappointing

Two offside goals but bad individual mistakes before

They havent worked hard for the goals. Comical goals

Dont go along that we had a go in the second half, we were 3-0 down. Easy to play at 3-0 down

Learning a lot about the players even the ones I brought in, words said in the dressing room

Only 2 ways to go. In a difficult hole. Last two performances are nowhere near where I want us to be

Looked the players in the eyes and told them what I feel. Named names. 2 good performers out of 11 tonight

Understand that people will be talking negatively about us and we deserve everything anyone throws at us

Lack of characters, including ones I brought in. Have to be big and strong to play here

Difficult bring players in due to agents and what players expect

Working hard to get players in, hopefully a few in for Millwall.

Sink or swim for all of us

Some will come through this and some will fall by the wayside. The ones that fall will miss out on a fantastic opportunity to play for this club

I believe in the players we have brought in will come good but they have to produce

The shape hasn't done us in the past games. Physically we haven't been strong enough so I'l have to pick a side based on that

Technically there are a lot of good players. They aren't showing that. The quality they have isnt showing. It's the mentality. It's these periods that makes or breaks footballers and coaches. I have been through it and I dont doubt myself one bit

If we have change formation then we will because we have to get a result at Millwall

Well i for one am backing.us to get a result at Millwall. It will see us getting a big fat nil next to our name on the scoreboard...and god knows how many next to theirs.

Doesnt take long for Utd to wash away any pre season optimism does it. No wonder i love the summer so much and almost resent the football season starting again. Maybe im just fed up with it all now.

Bad news for the likes of Sitwell...

...there is going to be a cricket score at The New Den on Saturday. :(

Got to agree it makes me feel better listening to Wilder.

Adkins was always trying to put out a positive spin and rarely slagged the players.
He always talked about honest pros etc and how we created so many chances playing the right way.
I often used to think he was talking about a different match to wear I'd just seen.

At least Wilder calls a spade a spade.

If the players perform that badly then all the manager can do in his post match interview is be honest with the supporters and give us confidence that bollockings have been dispatched, because that tonight was an aboration and an insult to everyone associated with the club. I would rather that than him trying to gloss over things.

Maybe this is the nadir? Problem is it's so hard to tell because we have had so many 'it can't get any worse' moments in recent years. All of Weir's matches bar one, Crewe under Clough, Yeovil under Clough, Shrewsbury under Adkins and now tonight. Will we ever bounce back and get progressively better? 90% of the players we sign seem to buckle under the pressure, yet most of them are not bad players. Why does it keep happening?

Hope we can bounce back against Millwall (who will also be wanting a response as they also got spanked tonight). Maybe an away fixture is what the doctor ordered but we may easily be bottom come Saturday tea time :(

Well of his 2 good players out of 11.....Leon Clarke is one of them for his work rate and tracking back, regardless of the fact he did little in front of goal.

Who was the other?

I had sympathy for Clarke tonight. Headed one just wide, not really another decent ball for him. The main thing is getting the basics right around him. He didn't win too many headers cleanly enough to direct them, but so many of them dropped down nearby from how well he held defenders off. That means if you're putting ball after ball up there, just get someone standing close. It's not hard. But instead every ball that dropped around him was cleaned up by a Southend player.

Not been tonight as I'm out of the country, but I listened to BP and to the post match interview and I have to say that the combination of both leave me feeling totally despondent. Southend must love us - they hadn't won a game since they last played us in March. Rochdale's only point has come against us away. The mighty Crewe were held to a draw at home by Hartlepool. Maybe I shouldn't comment because I haven't had to sit and watch our club perform like a bunch of amateurs tonight (I did at the Crewe game though) but I feel strongly about a club I have supported for well over 50 years.

We sound a complete and utter shambles, tactically, organisationally and quality wise. Worse it doesn't really sound as if we have a united changing room or a manager who knows what is wrong and how to fix it or whether it can be. For me Wilder has an Adams aura about him (sadly) and this combines with our habit of ditching a manager every season and ending up with a hotch potch of badly motivated, dubious players bought by a panoply of former managers. We are anything but United.

We didn't get into this situation overnight - it is a product of short termist and knee-jerk decisions at the very top, inconsistent financing and direction, inconsistent club organisation, a loss of bottle in the Boardroom when things go wrong (sack the manager - Blackwell and Wilson come to mind), a failure to retain our better players, poor team building, poor player acquisition and a general spiral into a decline which is looking more and more permanent. In the words of those philosophical giants The Sweet - we just haven't got a clue what to do. Supporters are getting frustrated especially as our home form, in what was once fortress Bramall Lane, is on a progressive downward path in recent years - last season there were 12 teams with stronger home records. Morale and the situation is getting more toxic by the match and we are starting to rip ourselves apart.

It's time for everyone associated with the club to wake up and smell the coffee - we need to stop hiding behind false optimism and the tradition and history of our once great club and recognise that we are where we deserve to be and, never mind the Championship, we are in grave danger of spiralling our way back down to the fourth division.

sharp like leon he worked his socks off tonight and had a few chances only problem with him and clarke tonight was that most of the time they had to come into midfield a lot just to get the ball since the balls from midfield weren't reaching them pretty much the same from the wings

Personally, I think Sharp was poor. For me, it's McNulty time. Give him a run FFS. Sharp was slow, unimaginative and tio far away from Clarke to make an impact.

Millwall away we will go for a 4231 system ,captain on the bench , first win of the season

You left it too late, didn't you Wilder? The first team was nowhere near ready or good enough, but you're pricking around persevering with crap that has proved it's not good enough (Basham and Long most notably, but even Scougall gets a game for some reason).

What the hell were you doing in the close season? You say you watched us a lot last year. Why haven't you replaced these timewasters? We could all see where the weak links are, why couldn't you?

Any Blades fan knows that Basham can't play in a 4 man midfield. Why don't you know this? Are you stupid? Have you forgotten?

Why did you abandon the formation you used pre season in favour of something that makes it harder for the forwards and makes it impossible for the midfield? What's wrong with you?

League One is obviously too much for you.

Think it must just be me that doesn't see or hear this straight talking manager who calls a spade a spade.

He fed us some waffle about transfers and blamed agents and said it was hard to get the players in (seemingly not so hard to sell them though.)

He's blamed the ref for 2 of the goals last night - forget what he said about not blaming the officials, why else would he bring it up if he wasn't doing exactly that.

Who was the other?
Coutts or Duffy perhaps or Basham for getting stuck in a bit. I'm struggling here.

He promised us pre season that one thing you will always get from his team is fight, spirit and effort a dig at Adkins maybe, but last night, ( my first game) there was none of this in the first half and the final 15 minutes of the second, anybody can talk a good game, last night I was embarrassed to be a blade, absolutely shocking. I also thought billy was poor, and the defence? Bring back j.mac and Collins far better than them two.

Who's bollocking Wilder - he's the current root of this problem, I really hope he realises he's fucked up with this system and looks at himself to make the biggest changes needed to get the best out of the players.

I was so enthusiastic about Wilder, but he's fallen into the Adkins trap. All talk. He said all the right things but absolutely nothing ha changed, actions speak louder than words, and while I admire the principle of sticking with a team, its obvious to every man and his dog that its not working.

Will he be brave enough to drop those not performing consistently (Long, Basham, Sharp)?

Agree the system is a huge part of the problem,we should be playing through Fleck not over him, and making better use of the flanks. It looks like we try the above for about 20 minutes, create a couple of chances without scoring then think 'f**k this' and start hoofing it.
However none of this explains the defensive howlers that reared their head tonight and just as the CB pairing was starting to look okay or George's cock up on Saturday .Yet again it is all reminiscent of players freezing and messing up the basics.

Wilder is responsible in the end but the players have to focus and concentrate on what they are doing.
