we miss Vinnie more than anyone else.
No one takes responsibility and controls the tempo of the game and is a physical presence in the middle of the park, I.e. does two jobs, both of which are lacking in the current set up
Nevermind Vinny I'd take the current version of Norwood back right now

That's why I recommended Assombalonga on a free. Some unit up front that gives you presence.

I do think Ings can sort of do that but how often will he even be fit?
Surely the recruitment team knew about Ings fitness record, he's never fit ffs! Seems it was a panic signing hoping it pays off!... don't we all🙏

Yes, well done Hecky for signing him. There’s no surprise that Preston are now on an upwards trajectory with a fraction of our resources. Stupid decision to bin him off when we did. Just one in a series of stupid decisions that have led us to where we are. But Vinnie didn’t want to be here.
I often wonder how many of our better quality and more consistent players leave once they've seen the writing on the wall.
Or are shuffled toward the exit on some imagined pretence or other.

Our recent few seasons retention rate is worth questioning and to now be blaming players solely for the current abhoration seems short sighted to me,fwiw.

Stupidity reigns largely supreme amongst those at the helm, assuming someone's got their hands on it.

I might not be the only one to have my doubts🤔

Fucking hell if he thinks one shot on target is gung-ho we really are in a rough ride this season.
One shot on target is a bit misleading though, as it doesn't count for blocked shots, which personally I think should be counted as most are usually on target.

Both us and Charlton had blocked shots yesterday, some of which were good chances that would have at the very least tested both Cooper and Kaminski had they not been blocked by a defender.

Our best chance came from one of those blocked shots, Campbell in the second half where him taking a touch gave the CB time to block his shot, which was going towards the far corner when he shot.

And can anyone tell me why Cannon gets on the pitch rather than One ?
Nothing against the lad but One isn't up to Championship standard either. He tries hard and all that, he makes the most of his ability and there were flashes in pre-season but whenever he's in the Championship he looks out of his depth.

Don't ask me what Tom Cannon does, because I don't know, but One doesn't do much either. It's not like we'd be swapping out dead weight for a matchwinner, it's one form of anonymity for another.

Is this the same Moore that some people wanted to hang after Wembley?
"We need to be able to go round or through or over."

If we're going to go over we need a Big Lad Up Front. In the 100 point season Fleetwood (remember playing teams like that) beat us at 2-0 home (remember losing at home to teams like that) and we didn't get a sniff. We then went out and bought James Hanson from Bradford, we had a Hoof option and won 13 of the final 17 games.

Moore had his limitations - if he didn't he wouldn't be playing for us - but he gave us an out ball. We don't have that any more and at the moment it looks like we're going to be very easy to contain.

Not what I asserted agree with you though

We play a 4-2-3-1 and only 2 of the midfield 5 have any kind of ability to create chances (Hamer, Ogbene).

You need one of the CMs to be a progressive passer. Playing any combination of Peck, Soumare and Matos prevents that completely. Any midfield two that doesn't include Hamer, Arblaster or Davies won't work.

We use inverted wingers, which is better for increasing the quality of shots, but worse for increasing the quantity of chances. Ogbene is a decent chance creator, Brooks is only if played on the left wing (although his sample size playing here is low). If not Brooks, get Burrows on the wing.

I like Callum O'Hare but you won't see a number 10 in the championship create fewer chances or contribute to fewer goals. He's a luxury you can't afford to have in a team so lacking in creators.

The answer, in my eyes, is:

- Switch to a back 5, getting our best chance creator (Burrows) higher up the pitch, as well as Seriki, who is also able.

- Hamer in the centre, next to Soumare or Matos. Ideally this would be a progressive ball player like Arblaster, freeing up Hamer to play higher. But we don't have another option. This means we can actually get dangerous passes into the final 3rd that a pacy front 3 can exploit.

- Brooks / One / Burrows left, Ogbene right.

Moore wasn’t great last season and I wasn’t sad to see him sold but only in the thought that a similar type of player would be brought in (if not yes I would have kept him). You need physicality at the top of the pitch with someone that can fight off defenders and keep the ball, at the moment we don’t have anyone they can do that which is a big part of our problems.

Getting rid of Moore wasn’t the wrong decision, not replacing him was.

Shit formation
Shit subs
Someone can explain why Ogbene and Barry were playing right wing together.
Wilder certainly didn’t look at the use of his subs since the play off final debacle.
Need to play 343 or 352 with haner as close to Campbell like Brewster did for some games last season.

Wilder doesn’t have time to be a stubborn **** and he needs to find the formation to fit this team pronto

I thought he may have gone to 3 5 2 and offer something different. It doesn't work with just 1 upfront. I thought we were poor yesterday, we had a good 15 mins but that was it

Was impressed with his accurate assessment and honesty in the post match interview.
If you see the issues then you can do something about.

No doubt Selles would have said he was happy with much of the performance and he can see improvements
But they just need to work harder on the training pitch and he still feels optimistic we will rise up the table.

OVERALL
I thought we played better than under Selles and the players seemed more determined.
Defence was good most of the game but for some reason became too open and careless in the last 10 minutes.
Wilder insinuated that we could have got a 0-0 draw but for some reason the players seemed too set on trying for a 1-0 win and became too open at the back.

Think midfield was decent too. Peck was back to nearer last years form, showing for the ball and loads of sideways passing, he was the same last season, no goals and hardly any assists but he does keep possession well and needs 1 or 2 creative players to pass to.
Thought Mattos was quick, very busy ball winner and a hard worker……however there was ZERO creativity or attacking threat from either of them.

Thought attack was really poor…..my issue was the lack of running into space….no belief or confidence.
Campbell seems to have lost form….whereas Cannon has no form because he never touches the ball ever in any game.
Appreciate Cannon might need setting up but he never makes any runs into space, seems a bit slow with weak physicality.
We did plenty of attacking but Charlton were so organised with numbers back in defence.

Our play was decent but we never looked like scoring and that is the big concern. At least Wilder knows this and will be working on a solution.
Cannon is far from impressive but he made two very good runs yesterday.

I was really surprised Hamer didn't try and play him in.

Simply too slow going forward. When was the last time we scored a goal in a similar fashion to the one Charlton scored today ?
Swansea away. Reda Khadra.

I didn't think we'd miss Moore but we've no target up front. If we're going to smash long balls up the field then neither Campbell or Cannon are the players we need. Not getting a replacement for Moore was criminal. That said CW should have seen that yesterday and changed our tactics.

remain positive dont listen to negative people who doubt him we must just keep thinking yes chris wilder he will come good it will work we will WIN,,UTB...yep in tuffy i and we trust..chow

Ings has actually been fit the last few seasons more or less. It's a bit of a myth that he's injury prone, he just wasn't getting picked to play.

Football managers are basically the same as other professionals like politicians, businessmen, economists, scientists, historians and so on,they are all convinced that their particular beliefs on how to go about their chosen path is absolutely correct and a winning formula that they can't wait to foist on the world,a few are brilliant, some are competent and some are crackers, the variables and the things that are not within their control or the blind optimism that they can't see obvious flaws in their methods are just a few of the reasons that seperate them all in their degrees of competency....in political analogy,Selles is the Liz Truss of football...he has a low ceiling limit for how successful his particular beliefs will work.

When did we last score a goal, full stop?

Last month!!

Biggest problem is we have a midfield full of players who contribute absolutely nothing offensively. Peck and Matos offer no forward threat whatsoever. Ohare buzzes around but when push comes to shove what does he actually do? That leaves Gus who is having a bit of a mare but gets double teamed a lot as hes our only creative player.

Until Blaster comes back to help out I fear for us going forward. Added to this Campbell is a different player to last season, Cannon is absolutely rubbish, our wide players are average at best and we dont have a long ball outlet.

Apart from that we are absolutely fine going forward 🤣

One puts himself about more than Cannon and has a more physical presence, he also looks like he cares.
For me it wouldn't be a decision between the two of them, who to start or bring on, because Cannon wouldn't be in my squad.
