We play a 4-2-3-1 and only 2 of the midfield 5 have any kind of ability to create chances (Hamer, Ogbene).
You need one of the CMs to be a progressive passer. Playing any combination of Peck, Soumare and Matos prevents that completely. Any midfield two that doesn't include Hamer, Arblaster or Davies won't work.
We use inverted wingers, which is better for increasing the quality of shots, but worse for increasing the quantity of chances. Ogbene is a decent chance creator, Brooks is only if played on the left wing (although his sample size playing here is low). If not Brooks, get Burrows on the wing.
I like Callum O'Hare but you won't see a number 10 in the championship create fewer chances or contribute to fewer goals. He's a luxury you can't afford to have in a team so lacking in creators.
The answer, in my eyes, is:
- Switch to a back 5, getting our best chance creator (Burrows) higher up the pitch, as well as Seriki, who is also able.
- Hamer in the centre, next to Soumare or Matos. Ideally this would be a progressive ball player like Arblaster, freeing up Hamer to play higher. But we don't have another option. This means we can actually get dangerous passes into the final 3rd that a pacy front 3 can exploit.
- Brooks / One / Burrows left, Ogbene right.
