After the game yesterday, described last week as a difficult week and harked back to his school days and playing and managing in local football.
Sounded really emotional. Anyone else hear this and what's happened?

No idea what that’s about.

Chris's father-in-law died (I think). Think it's been a case of when not if, so probably something that followed him around for a few weeks. If it's true then clearly hit him hard.

Cheers fella. Very sad news indeed and explains why he said what he did.

Will they ask the Pig bloke if he’s made enquiries about the transfer embargo yet? He really ought to find out before the window closes...

Perhaps the better question would be 'are you happy being a yes man and' defending' the Chairman/CEO by not commenting?

Or better still, requesting an answer to the question from Chansiri.

If it's as simple as that they are awaiting clarification from the league, then I'm sure it's possible to get that answer out of them or the league.

haha! Wilder just put a bloke who was being daft on his back (verbally).

What was said ?
This bloke was trying to say, 'why don't we scout Europe?' What he said was, 'our scouting system is rubbish.'
Wilder reeled off a list of signings he'd made including, O'Connell, Fleck, Duffy, etc
Also the questioner asked why aren't we picking up more players like Brentford, Wilder knew all about them including they have a building with a staff of 150 that purely works on their European scouting network.

Interesting how differently we read this. Thought Wilder was poor on that. Asked a serious question on scouting and why we hadn’t done anything in Europe, and Wilder’s answer was “what do mean we haven’t done anything in Europe, we got results against Malaga, Maritimo and Inter”. He then went on to explain Brentford’s situation (which he’s done before) but did little to reassure me that this is an area we’re going to improve on anytime soon. I don’t think anyone is suggesting we need to recruit 150 people in, but given the prices of the domestic market I’m disappointed that this isn’t a priority to sort out.

Interesting take on it, I read it as it's not something were actively doing at the moment. But it's definitely something we'll be looking to upgrade

But if we’re not in a position to do it properly, there’s no point in doing it. Our resources tend to go towards the academy, Brentford scrapped theirs and believe that the money is better spent on scouting in Europe. Both can be good strategies when executed correctly.

Perhaps Brentford having to compete with Chelsea etc for the best kids in the area has led them more towards Europe. But, ultimately, their strategy hasn’t got them promoted. If we could add scouting in Europe to having the academy then we’d be better off than them but we have to be in a position where we can commit resources to it, or we’ll fail, we’ll sign shit wastes of money because the good players will be signed by the clubs like Brentford who take it seriously.

I hope he doesn’t have a Leeds accent or show any signs whatsoever that he has a favourite team – knives will almost certainly be out if he does.

Incidentally, this is happening tonight:

Just listened in to that LB, quality public speaking from CW, good humour and diplomatic as ever, but, somebody should’ve told Chris that the microphones were left on during the travel spot... that could have been potentially embarrassing with him discussing Simon Moore’s new deal ‘off air’!.... just after the debate about football agents...or did I imagine it?

I heard Simon Moore but not what he was saying about him

I think Chris took the question the wrong way. He thought the guy was attacking him and there signings When he was just trying to make a valid point.

I'd say its more that the owner is Matthew Benham and he's a fan of the moneyball approach.
Yeah, he used mathematical models to predict share movements and made a lot of money. He’s been trying to formulate mathematical models for scouting. I hope he fails, otherwise football will become very predictable and dull.

Yeah SM for sure Dav... point being that, it’s little oversights like that, (not blaming Chris by the way, Radio Sheff should mute the mics) where stuff gets heard by thousands, that really shouldn’t be... happens with politicians and the like regularly doesn’t it...@stringjunior will be getting the master audio tapes from Mrs Stringjuniors high level connections as we speak.....

So - she's highly strung then?

I agree with your concerns but he knows the questions we're thinking even if they weren't asked; he said European players aren't cheap they use the same agents as anybody else and they know the going rates.
He did also go back to (and it's easy to forget he's only been here for 2 seasons) pointing out what United were like when he arrived and that he needed players he knew were going to work in league1 /Championship straight away.
It was a good question to ask (as it keeps the idea in the manager's head) but the questioner did it very poorly, most of us aren't good at public speaking and when a microphone is placed in front of us we tend to ramble, Wilder became defensive but tried to inject humour and lightened up eventually.

We've been looking to improve our scouting European scouting network for 30 years and done toss all. We've relied in the past on contacts but until we invest in a proper network we're stuck where we are.

It was just after the agent discussion I think, and what I got from it was something along the lines of “they only do it to try and get a new deal” implying that the agent was touting Moore around, creating the rumour, in the hope of pushing the new deal forward. Which sounds unsurprising.

Almost certainly true for the wage aspect. It’s the bonkers fees though to clubs where I would have thought the main savings are to be made.
