He’s got more than enough credit in the bank to take us down with the worst points total ever, have a crap start in the Championship and still be our manager (and one of our best ever, at that). For me, as long as we’re in with a chance of being in the 22/23 Premier League, the job is his.

Just take this season as if it was what we expected last year, and stop flapping.

My concern is that the season continues as it has been, we continue to play this dull and defensive football, and we go down with a whimper. At that point it's a huge ask for the manager who is responsible for the failure to change the whole mood around the club and lead the rebuild. A fresh start might make more sense.

And if you want a fresh start in the Championship and it's clear we're headed that way by Xmas, do you consider bringing in someone new at that point and letting them start the rebuild a bit earlier?

I'd like to think so, at least then the new manager would have two windows to get or at least get close to the team he wants.

I thought I heard that too but I find it hard to believe. I thought that was a good effort that hit the bar yesterday, it was a tough shot with two defenders and the goalie running at him and if it had gone in it would have been Shearer-esque.

Might be more shots without scoring than any other PL striker. 38 players have had more shots, the majority of them forwards, so it's a pretty meaningless stat. McBurnie has had 13 shots in just over 6 full games, hardly raining them in.

FWIW I thought we had 1 good chance yesterday (the McBurnie 1 on 1, and even that required a lot of work by McBurnie to even get into that position). The others were very low percentage. Which is why we hardly ever score.

If we're talking about yesterday then two of the five were powderpuff strikes from Fleck first half and McGoldrick second half; not very good chances. McBurnie's two in the first half were, in fairness to him, down to his skill and ability. He did incredibly well to direct the header goalwards with any power, the keeper made a mess of it and conceded a corner. The shot was a great effort with a bouncing ball but a difficult chance again. The only very good chance was the one 15 minutes from time that hit the bar.

Yes I don't get the narrative over we missed our chances. We had one decent one Baldock and two half chances via McBurnie. We then had our best one when we both the bar.

West Ham had a similiar chance via Coufal than Baldock but missed 2 sitters...Soucek and Haller (both keeper to beat 5 yards from goal and also hit the bar). They created much better openings and on another day as much as the general game was even for parts they win 2 or 3-0.

We created very little again for a home team and simply do not get the ball into the box quick enough. It's slow and pedestrian and we simply don't look like scoring.

It’s an awful combo of not being as defensively tight as last season, not creating enough chances, and our players being wasteful when they do finally get a good opportunity.

We’re just all round worse right through the team, and I think it’s mainly down to a lack of continuity and confidence. You can point at missing players (though there’s only really one unavailable now compared with a lot of last season) or say “they overperformed last season”, but I don’t buy that as an excuse - if they can do it once, they can do it again.
