This is a bit of a random post so apologies in advanced but bare with me.
With the signing of omar bogle who i think is a fantastic prospect and talent it got me thinking about WAFC and their squad and transfers in general. I really think they have hit the nail on the head with who they sign.
They rarely break the bank, always chase hungry young flair players who are technically astute. They really punch above their weight in terms of the money they spend and play good progressive football. When you look at their team you have players like morsy (you may not of heard of him) max power, grigg, powell, gomez, burns (you may not of heard of him) colcough, warnock, jacobs etc. Now i am not saying is this is the best team in the champ. What i am saying is that they have got all the right personel and mix of players to play good footy on a budget. Most of these players came from lower leagues. They are pretty cheap and hungry to prove themselves in a good footballing side. You could probably apply similar logic to brizzle city, posh (not so much these days) bournemouth and burnle. When you think about the money in football these days and player like rhodes with numbers like 10 mil, i would much rather chose the 1 mill bogle option. Not saying rhodes will be shit just that bang for buck i dont think hes going to be 10x better than bogle.
This then got me thinking about our transfers, i think we are heading in the right direction. I thought that Oshea was a crap signing at first but i have changed my mind on the fact that a) i havent seen him play b) he is a hungry flair player who has done well at chessie. Carruthers looks sharp, Riley is young, hungry and highly rates and we know that chapman ticks this box also. Add to this fleck who i think is one of if not the best CM in the league who was a FREE!!, duffy, moore and oconnell. I believe we are starting to mould ourselves into a club who think in a more positive and progressive manner. We aren't reckless with money anymore and are building for the future instead of this season.
I like the direction in which we are going and i would choose this route over clumbsy spendingg with journeyman etc. Credit has to go to the board and manager as finally i believe we are heading in the right direction. Although i compare it with wigan i would much rather that than the united of old that got us in this mess.
So well done united, and fair play to wigan who i think have got the blend almost spot on. We should aim to model ourselves on them/bournemouth as with our support/finances we should prosper.
