The birth of my son Freddie (on 21 February) has given me complete confidence that we will go up this year.

Why? Because my own birth year, and those of all my sons, have all coincided with the Blades winning promotion or being relegated.

I was born in 1953 (Div 2 champions), and my sons from my previous marriage were born in 1979 (R to Div 3), 1981 (R to Div 4!), 1982 (P to Div 3), and 1984 (P to Div 2). And my son born in 1984 became the father of my granddaughter in 2011 (R to League 1).

Given how many seasons we haven't been promoted or relegated, these are remarkable statistics. And that's why little Freddie's arrival means we are going up in 2012.

Incidentally, Freddie's great-uncle, my uncle Fred, a lifelong Blade now in his 90s, saw the victory parade the last time we won the FA Cup in 1925!

Fucking hell. A new dad at 59. I doth my flat cap to you owd mucker. I am guessing your new partner is not much older (possibly younger) than your eldest son (or even all your sons!?). Nah nah nah nah ...... he's a Blade n He's a Blade :D

Fair play to you mate for knocking one out at 59. I think i'd be thinking about my retirement. :)

Or perhaps the love of a younger woman has kept you in shape ;)

Thanks! 58 in fact, and attended my first game at BDTBL on Easter Monday 1966 (we lost 1-0 to Blackpool). Looking forward to taking Freddie to his first game. His big brothers are, of course, Blades. If I can work out how to do an attachment, will post a pic of the new baby in his Blades blanket.

Fook me Newbury!! Good on ya pal, oh, and many congrats by the way.
My youngest lad Billy has just turned 1 and is definitely showing an interest in football. My eldest lad Sonny, 5, is taking more after his mother, who's a Norwich STH and look's to be heading towards the green and yella in our family!!
I'm effin devastated!!!!

I'd just be pleased to still be at it at 58 never mind knocking a kid out, i hope your right with what you say Newbury and congrats i hope the baby grow has already been purchased.

Well done Newbs.

Shows right up the Namby Pamby wankers who simply buy season tickets and chant "United, United" every now and then. Knock a kid out to get promoted (and think of the possible long term increase in crowd potential).
I'd be right there with you if it wasn't for that incident with the Nurse, the local, the scalpel and the resulting swollen gonads.

So your son is younger that your grandaughter! Bloody hell, these modern relationships. I blame the 60's :-)

Seriously though, congratulations and all that. I am 45 and can't imagining being able to summon up the energy to go through the whole baby routine again - you must have super powers!

I love it when Uncles are younger than their Niblings....so much fun, screws everyone's perceptions up...

I just want to briefly revive this thread to remind everyone that it still holds true - we are going up! Freddie (that's him in my avatar) is too young at three months to go to Wembley, but he will be wearing his mini Blade shirt and watching on TV with his mum while I go to the game. For historical reasons, we are very confident.

He looks like a reet little bruiser  congrats newbury, i'm 52, i would love another young un but our gert was selfish and got sorted:rolleyes: i refused to get the snip, i wasnt scared ,honest:D

It's when they tug on your vas and you get the feeling that your balls are being dragged through your stomach and out of your arse where it gets a bit tense - other than that it's a piece of cake.

Thanks a lot. As I'm 58 I shall probably be impotent long before I get the snip so no worries! Here's Freddie with his Blades blanket.

He's a proper little lad! Congrats and, whilst I'm not confident, United will have my full and unequivocal backing for 90 minutes and more on Saturday.

No feeling sorry for ourselves, no grumbling, just pure support :)

I salute your undimmed reproductive powers.
