Starting to feel a little sorry for the guy to be honest.

He's spent all his career working his way up the leagues after learning his craft, very similar to what Wilder has done.

He came as someone with flair, a definite goal scoring record and someone well known as a real grafter with a number of POTY behind him.

For reasons beyond me, he's been given just 132 minutes across 5 different appearances to show what he can do. When Brooks went down with glandular fever, it seemed an ideal time to introduce him, yet he made one start against Wolves, then was somewhat jettisoned.

The strange thing for me was that, despite the nature of that game, losing convincingly 3-0, he looked to be our main threat and had a decent game in contrast to some of his more established colleagues and this alone accounted for 71 of those 132 minutes.

I'm sure the history of United is littered with players we bought and were not given a chance but in hindsight were perhaps not up to it at the level we were at - take Luke Beckett as an example.

I know we hate to be fobbed off with the "Brooks' replacement is already here" nonsense, but the guy clearly has some end product. In the season up to joining us, he'd already amassed 6 goals and 7 assists in 26 matches. The previous season, 13 goals and 6 assists in 38 matches. 19 goals and 13 assists in 64 matches - a goal impact every other match.

At the same level, our own Mark Duffy managed 6 goals and 9 assists in 44 games; a goal impact one in every three matches. Last year Duffy got 3 goals and 9 assists in 39 matches, a similar ratio.

So why not give him a chance? Our reliance on our strikers to get the Lion's share of the goals alone would suggest he's worth some game time.

If Wilder doesn't rate him why would we? We've seen him start one game and that was frankly footballs answer to a sexual assault away at Wolves.

Don't think anyone is being unkind or slagging him off.

Its more a case of fans wanting improvement where possible. I think everyone accepts that we can certainly improve in that area (attacking midfielder).

Personally I don't think Holmes or Brooks fit in to the system we play ,I think this is the reason Wilder is letting Brooks go and Holmes is struggling to get a game. Holmes might be getting a close season to fit in to the system and the signings we make will be players who will adhere to it.

As I said in another post.

Let him play in pre season and we can then all make our own judgements. CW wrote Coutts off at one point and then he came back and proved everyone wrong. If Holmes does it great if not then can moan all day.

Still wouldn’t be surprised to see him loaned out before the season starts

The word on the street is that he just hasn’t slotted in to the CW mindset so ingrained in the rest of the squad.

Work ethic falling a wee bit short I suspect.

It happens. Has little to do with ability.

Capable player, but will probably go the exact same way as Samir.

Either way, GLTTL.

I think it'll be a case of take a look pre-season, see what the likely competition is from who we bring in and re-assess early August. With Brooks going, we only have him and Duffy for that kind of position so would be stupid to let him go now.

As others have said though, if he hasn't fitted in then it's just a matter of time but from a footballing point of view too early to write him off.

Same goes for Leonard as well IMO.

I don't think he got his chance due to a few things. I've heard he can play as a winger but we don't really play with out-and-out wingers, so he would of had to defend which isn't his game. Our two best players of last season were Duffy and Fleck, who you wouldn't want out of the team, meaning really there is only one midfield spot he could take and it was more of a holding role that Evans took to well.

I'd be surprised if that's the case, wilder worked with him before so doubt we would have taken him if he has work ethic issues, may be a case of right player at the wrong time

Think it’s mostly down to not ‘living up to expectations’ given the amount of time we were in for him - nearly 2 years?? I think people hoped for an impact.

He’s not had many chances but hasn’t really delivered when given them. Think that we can improve here given his age

You may be onto something re Brooks. If you don't have him the case for 2 out and out strikers is more compelling.

The same is true re Holmes. But that begs the question as to why Wilder chased him so long.

If we are to be challenging the top half he's not good enough I'm afraid.
31 spent all his career in lower divisions, very strange signing for me.
If he is to be our Brooks replacement than I'm worried.

I'm hoping he gets to play abit, honestly can't see why everyone's against him, other than, Wilder didn't use him much as Duffy or Brooks played and we needed subs in other areas??
He did nothing wrong when he played, looked pretty good to me??
And now he's got a full preseason under CW/AK, which can only be a good thing!

I actually think Holmes might come into his own this season. Taking a few months to adapt would be totally understandable.
