Why So Many With No Faith After 3 Glorious Years

ah our past misdemeanours and failures are whats driving the panic

sorry but football has changed a tad since we sold Currie
in fact its changed massively since we sold Deane to Middlesboro
nay, even since we sold jags to Everton.

we have played 3 games in which, after the first 10 minutes v wolves weve competed , and deserved something

yes theres only 35 games left ,,
yes theres only 105 points up for grabs
yes we need around 40 to be safe and can only lose 60 65 more points, thats another 20 losses
but its not impossible to get 40 points from 35 games
we got 54 from the first 35 last year, even taking 9 off we still could get 46

10 wins and 8 to 11 draws is all we need

surprised no one has mentioned selling Blackman will be responsible for us going down this season

Totally agree mate, with every point you make. Just giving you a an answer to your original question : Why? Just saying some of us have lots of scars but I really envy optimism like yours, seriously.

BTW last 2/3 years have been brilliant. Me & my mate been home & away for 43 years & best we seen

Be a tad more gentle mate us fans have been through a lot 😉😉🤐

Southampton, Watford, Norwich and Brighton have all had back to back promotions (that’s just a couple of examples). CW isn’t the first to ever do what he’s done, Infact he’s not done half as well as some managers. He’s an excellent manager but he’s not irreplaceable.
 
Well that's one for the book init never knew EEYOR was a BLADE !!!! But If it's really so inevitable were going to fail it makes you wonder why some bother to keep going for so long don't it.? ........ :tumbleweed:

I get what you're saying but to be fair United have done it with 1 manager, Soton, Norwich & Brighton have all changed managers & Watford had 58 last season. Wilder is the 1st United manager in my life that has turned a sows ear into a silk purse but the board need to back him, we don't need to spend stupid money but buy sensibly and cut our cloth accordingly.

Bassett was great also for us but the football was not for the purists but we didn't give a flying fig, CW has given us decent footballers playing nice football don't be gloomy come on Wolves have just lost last two, 3-1 & 4-0 it's a crazy league.

It is indeed a crazy league, but as it stands goals are flying in every game. Even the relegation favourites are scoring: WBA putting 3 past Chelsea, Villa 3 past Fulham, Leeds and Fulham in a 7 goal thriller. We’ve got 0 in 3 games.

We’re too much of a defensive side, and if we can’t even keep a clean sheet anymore, we at least need to be clinical while attacking. We’re seriously behind.

Yes that I get but I don't know why our forwards are not scoring come on their not shit, sometimes I feel when we get ball in final 3rd we over egg the pudding instead of simple moves.

Our top scorer last season scored 6 goals. When you rely on 34 y/o Billy Sharp, 32 y/o David McGoldrick, Lys Mousset who can’t play more than half hour, in what should be, his prime age and an unproven Oli McBurnie in the PL. Something is seriously wrong.

We all watched the same matches last season. McGoldrick, no matter how much effort he puts in, couldn’t hit a barn door. He missed sitter after sitter, and after he took it round the GK at Brighton away and put it wide, he shouldn’t have played again. Sharp is sluggish, hasn’t got the ability or intelligence to play at this level. Mousset is forever injured. McBurnie changes our style when he steps on the pitch, we go from decent football, to LAUNCHING it upfield and losing possession. It was clear we needed upgrades and none have come. So quite frankly, I’d honestly have to say, yes. Our front line, is shite.
 
We have been very lucky to have no long term injuries. since Chris Wilder arrived in 2016.untill now.
Jack O, Connell our best centre back. and Mousset. the manager has bought in some young players.
A few players over 32.Sharp Mcgoldrick. Bashambower etc.they have been great for us but can't play forever.
So need replacing gradually.but the forwards can,t score at the moment.hence the urgent need for goal poacher/striker.
Wilder knows what we need.he is one of us.knows the club inside out. stop hassling him. In Wilder we Trust.UTB.
 
I’ll be perfectly honest and admit to the view that I think we will go down this year.

It’s not a valid excuse to lambast the board, manager or playing staff. It’s probably just an acceptance that we vastly overachieved over the last 3 years by getting promoted with a side that on paper shouldn’t hand been anywhere near the top half of the Championship and then last season finishing in the top half with a side who on paper should have been relegation fodder.

I just think there are plenty of other factors at play. The players have over performed for that long and at such a high intensity that such an incredible run and performing at the level they did was eventually going to catch up with them.

During our good run we was incredibly lucky with injuries and the lack of serious injuries we had. It was inevitable that we would pick some up along the way.

We aren’t an established premier league club just yet, and although our chairman is considerably richer than the likes of me and thee, he is a relatively pauper by Premier League terms, we wasn’t able to match the money Brighton paid for Maupay last season so ended up with McBurnie (or McShitty as he colloquially known by some of bedwetters) as the manager and his scouting team who have enjoying some resounding successes with transfers deemed him the best striking option they could afford within the parameters of the budget they had.

This summer we had a lot of areas we had to improve on. First up we needed to replace a world class goalkeeper, and also bolster the squad, especially in terms of squad depth as last season we didn’t have a great deal of depth and it caught up with us post lockdown. I think we have done the best we can with the budget we have.

Relegation might not be as bad as people think as we will be dropping with a squad who are comfortably better than anything in the Championship, and if we drop his season I couldn’t bet against us not going straight back up with the squad we have now, we have got joined up thinking right across the club, and the key people across key positions are all happy and settled at the club and have adopted a long-term view.

No McB needs to get his finger out yes Billy & Didzy are old now chabbies both to me, Moose worries me as I said earlier he's 24 and he's like a proverbial tampon 1 week in & 3 out plus he's 24 and has zero stamina.
 
I cannot get over all the doom & gloom on here ATM we are 3 games into season those old enough to remember 90/91 will recall we didn't win in league till our 16th game. We beat Forest in a belter of a game 3-2 on December 22nd that said come Xmas Day we had 4 points, in New Year went on run of 7 wins and stayed up easily just don't give up yet.

All opinions mate but the negativity referred to is astounding after what has been achieved.

It's football and teams go through bad spells as they readjust and evolve.
Some of our lot act like babies cos things aren't going our way for the first time in a long time. Largely injury free and despite seeming refereeing/var injustices the team has not felt sorry for itself and cracked on.
I just don't get why folk want to be such doom merchants. Our players would laugh at us and question the lack of loyalty.
Absolutely fans choice to express but success has never been built on negativity. Certainly not ours.
I bet the lads don't think about relegation after 3 games. Why would we?
I've seen more good than bad.
We look streets ahead of Fulham and West brom because we can still defend and the goals will come. In my humble opinion.Burke is developing nicely whose pace will cause defences havoc.
I don't deny it could be tough,but we've seen enought of CWAKs teams to have confidence and faith haven't we ? And the players we have brought in thus far will bed in and thrive,given time and patience.

That is one of the problems. If we were, I'd like to think we would have certainly scored a goal and got a point or two.

How about Fleck ,Basham,Stevens.?Some off our best players including our player of the year cost peanuts or now't .Now worth a few million each. How about Vardy who was shown the door at a club not to far away from here.?Price tags do not mean nothing in a large amount of cases.The art is picking out talented unproven players who have been overlooked.We have a really good manager who is great doing just that.Take a look at Brentford who are ace at it.Their chief scout is worth his weight in gold ,wish we could get him at the Lane he can spot gems.
 
Being realistic about where we are presently. We have improved the squad with Bogle and Lowe who will get game time this season. Burke is looking like a useful addition who is competing and gives us an option up front and is a bit different from what we have got already. Though we do need the addition of an out and out striker to increase our goal tally. Midfield needs a bit of work to make them gel and perform again. The defence will be fine even with the loss of JOC as Ampadu and Robinson though not at the same level are not bad either.
So where does that leave us? Needing a striker and an improvement in form.
We did well last season but we don't have the money to spend bucket loads on players and nor should we.
It's going to be a gradual transition because if we are honest very few of our players are wanted by other clubs so we won't have funds to reinvest by selling someone for big bucks.
If we finish above 15th then we should be happy and keep adding a few to the team to strengthen again.
I don't get the doom and gloom. It's early yet and we have one position we need to fill. Get that sorted and win a few games and we will be looking at a different picture and be more optimistic

That’s my point, great lower level knowledge, and we all know the saying about buying lower level and where it’ll finish. For all the good ones we find, we are finding failures. And the Vardy comment is irrelevant in this context, we’ve released more talent and up and coming players for next to nothing in the past few years to make any scout weep.

Exactly this; it's like getting your bonus paid regularly at work, then hard times hit and your just pulling in basic wage. In that moment it feels shit but globally you are still earning, still have a job and can feed your family.

There are numerous football divisions below us and numerous teams, in excess of 90% who would take Wilder and Knill at a sniff IMHO. We've got to suck it up and go for survival this season as was our aim last season, the results will come.

In the last few years we had little options unlike now but even now we have yet to become an established club in the prem and it is our luck to be here when we have no paying punters coming through the door which is costing us millions.We had little choice when we were in league one or the championship to hang on to our up and coming lads when such clubs in the prem come knocking.They of course all wanted to leave and grab the chance of playing in the big league and who could blame them.Add to that the fact that our owner has to find millions and millions to buy all the infrastructure off the previous owners plus the changes he has promised regarding updating the Lane along with the new home for our lasses down the cliffe plus the up grading at Shirecliffe and surely anyone would be a bit nervous when asked for even more millions of pounds ,can not think of many who would not be nervous .Remember this is just our second term in the top flight and the way it is shaping up we may not get it finished so no doubt the tele companies will want their money back. Not a good time to be trying to get a firm foothold in the prem
 
I think a lot of the (over) reactions are bourne out of fear. Fear of having the piss taken out of us by other teams supporters, fear of trying to lift ourselves out of the Championship mire again, fear of being out of the limelight, fear of your public opinion counting for nothing because you no longer support a Premier League club. Those fears are also recent realities and we don't want to go back there. If we do end up back there, the other fear is that Wilder won't be with us to try and take us back. It is a poor start but over a 38 game season I'm pretty sure we've got enough to stay up. I've seen at least 3 teams who are considerably worse than us but with our tough upcoming fixtures I think the fear factor among some sections of our support is only likely to get worse, but they're probably the sort of people who are panic buying bog rolls again. At least their negativity won't be heard pitchside by the players and the rest of us wont have to hear their half arsed rantings about what Wilder should be doing to make things better. Cool heads and steely hearts required all round.

This season will get finished mate, there's to much money riding on it virus or no virus, it's something we've got to live with for many a year and people have got to face it.
