Why no tribute?

Chris Wilder provided us with what was possibly four of the most entertaining years of our blades supporting lives.
He gave us pride back in our football club
He made the owners around £300m

Yet he left under a cloud and to date has had no formal recognition of his achievements other than a few words from our CEO and a short press release on our news real.

No matter what your stance on where fault for his departure lay, I believe the club are remiss in not providing a more detailed thanks.

Do people agree and what could have happened to prevent this ?

The silence from the club since his departure / over the reasons for his departure, have been deafening.

In my mind there were 3 main issues which Wilder cited as roadblocks to him continuing in his role which he hinted at quite strongly during his final press conferences.

1. Broken promises re upgrading the training facility at Shireclifffe.
2. As above but in connection with squad retention for next season and
3. Intentions to bring in a DOF.

Mysteriously since his departure a number of news articles have appeared in the press containing promises from the owners which (perhaps deliberately) attempt to dispel those same 3 issues.

Now who is telling the truth?
 
It's because they've zero class or understanding of the feelings of 90% of the fan base. What else should we expect from rich people who haven't been able to get what they want from the new plaything (well I say new, but its now been discarded to the corner of the nursery in favour of other sporting play things).

And of course Wilder will have been gagged with NDA's in order to receive his severance, so we will only ever get their spin on what transpired.
 
It depends on the circumstances of his departure, which I’m sure we will find out in time.

In the Prince’s defence, he has always been the type of person to hold back from commenting on things until he feels that matters have settled (it was very similar with the ownership wrangle).

On this occasion, it does feel as though more official statements should have been made, but I’m prepared to be patient and wait before I get too judgemental.
 
There'll be a full and proper tribute when the animosity dies down I'd imagine. But it's unlikely he's left on the best terms.

The best thing for everyone will be Wilder getting another job. Then hopefully the bitterness that people currently have will dissipate a little
 
It's ungraceful, cowardly and incredibly petty. They didn't even put their names at the bottom of the statement. This means, of course, said statement it is not attributable to anyone. The promises therein are from nobody so we can't hold them to anything in it. The control of the narrative post Wilder has been remarkably well stage managed though. Almost political in its execution. Precious few quotes though.

At the moment it all depends on which ‘truth’ you want to hear.
 
Listening to the Prince on Talk Sport in the past he has often used the cliche 'I believe actions speak louder than words'.

Hearing Stephen Bettis statement (more than likely put together by the club) last week then it's fair to say 'words' are not the Prince's strongest point.

If the guy is as authentic as he wishes us to believe then I look forward to seeing action sooner rather than later.

To turn around all smiles and memories after the utter clusterfuck that was his exit would look even worse in my opinion. Best to let it lie for a while, get a new manager in, move on and move the club forward, and then when things have settled down a bit we can have the official tributes. To do it now just feels like playing with a freshly dressed wound.

I agree with you but feel like the longer the club leave it the more awkward it gets. Think we’d have seen some some of tribute by now, if there was going to be one.

It’s a disgrace really, despite whatever’s gone on behind the scenes.

What was the actual outcome after what was said?

Bottom of the Premier League, 14 points, 23 out of 29 lost and effectively relegated before Christmas

That's some legacy, some pride, some financial gain. What happens on the pitch is his part of ship, and the club is measured by that, no matter how badge thumpy and tearful you feel about his departure

And, you have no idea what conversations have taken place backstage. The fact that this has happened fairly quickly and with silence from the club itself spells out one or both parties telling each other to fuck off some time in the past two weeks

But that is the problem, isn’t it?
It looks like that because we have no information. Why that Friday?
Perhaps I am being a little unfair but your views could be based on a view that CW should have been persuaded to stay.
But t what if that was what it was all about:? He came in wanted to go and the next 24 hours plus were spent trying to get him to stay?
After a lot of toing and froing one or other or everyone threw their arms up and said bollocks let’s just get this over and done with.

Surely what went on, behind the scenes, is what is relevant.
As we don’t and may never know, I agree with what has already been said and address any tributes, etc when things have calmed down.
Perish the thought that the truth were to be told - some people might get mightly upset.

In balance there was stuff before last weekend also saying that wouldn’t happen, it’s not just since he left.
The DoF rebuttal came out pretty quick that they were never considering it while Chris was here.
They also said that they would consider all offers for players but they would have to meet our valuation and there would be no fire sale. Chris then echoed this.
Finally the delay of the training ground isn’t unreasonable given the uncertain financial climate due to covid, no real idea when fans would be back or what league we’d be in.
What of course makes no sense is any of the above being the sole or collective reason for Wilder going, as if it was and it’s all still in the plans it would have been settled last week.

How do you know that Wilder asked for there to be no such comments after his departure ? We don’t so it is all speculation

I have no idea, I don't know any Oxford fans, however I knew there was something "off" about his departure from there, and I was struck by the remarkable similarities with the current situation of the has-he-hasn't-he variety, with the rumours, denials, speculation about the reasons.

I remembered from Roy's view when he was appointed that Oxford's fans were largely grateful yet hostile towards him.
