Why Has Billy Sharp...

His 3rd attempt to have an impact here.
We could all really do with it paying off this time.

Still our best player though, for me he should have given mcnulty a go at half time but that would have probably meant takingbilly off, that wasn't going to happen, was it. If mcnulty couldn't get on last night and doesn't play a part on Saturday he may as well leave, he at least would have had a go.
Coutts was our best player last night by far

He's still our best (only?) hope of scoring the goals to keep us up this season.

However he is going to pick up a suspension or two the way he is behaving, maybe The captaincy is having a detrimental effect on him? I am not a big fan of strikers or keepers being captain.

Spot on. He needs to realise he's not invincible and will be dropped if he's not up to it, and he's clearly not so far. McNulty gets the go ahead from me next match.

If Sharp 'isn't up to it', where does that leave the rest of the wasters? Billy proved with his 22 goals last season that he's the least of our problems.

Clarke won every header where was Billy to collect the ball afterwards, sat on his fat arse complaining to the ref

No he didn't. When Clarke gets a touch, he seems to think his job is done. Trouble is, most of his touches go anywhere except to a United player. He gets chances every game but fails to put them away. Even his goal against Crewe was accompanied by four or five misses. He's going to make us long for Darius Henderson.

Scorer of our only league goal thus far, it's probably worth noting.

Why would you want Darius Henderson? Him and Clarke are like the opposite ends of the spectrum of type of footballers.

It's like comparing Rob Hulse and Billy Sharp.

Whatever Billy is he isn't a captain. And as for the comment that he misses more than he scores, well that's plain stupid as everyone knows that all good strikers are greedy, shoot on sight and aren't afraid to miss. But, and I'm not getting at him, he isn't a leader. The captain needs to be a defender of midfield player who sees and is involved in most of the play. Now the million dollar question is .... Who ? Would the captaincy improve any of the midfielders at the club ? Would Basham take the responsibility and would it change his performances like it has with other players elsewhere ? Would you give it to arguably the best footballer in the team, Fleck and hope he leads by example. Trouble is with Fleck under the current style of play is that he doesn't see the ball. It's a dilemma that I'm sure I can't answer but whatever the answer is, it isn't Billy. The captaincy is a pressure he doesn't need and we can all see that.

He wasn't great last night but to be fair the team weren't great and Billy battled as much as anyone and kept going. Strange game really as for the last few games we've been good in the first 20-30 minutes and then trailed off, Southend got lucky last night in that all their chances went in where as none of ours have in the past matches, it will come good just needs a bit of time (cue 6 years comments). It worries me that we aren't scoring but it was one of those games that we wouldn't have scored in all night but if we had scored in the first half and had a bit of momentum I think we could have still got something from the game. We were sat in John Street and it didn't help Billy and a fan having a go at each other which ended with Billy telling him to fook off (not blaming anyone here as frustrations are obviously running high on and off the pitch, also Billy swearing at fans in the family stand, even if the guy was an idiot, really:(), this was while the ball was in play so obviously things are getting to the team and maybe it is like some say a confidence thing. Early days yet but see what new players come in and judge things when we're settled. Thing is I like Wilder and think he'll do well, but I also thought Clough, Adkins, Adams, Weir and Speed would also do well so what do I know:mad: (I did draw the line at Robson though:)) Oh the joys of football, you wait 3 months for the season to start and then think its over 3 matches in:tumbleweed:

Every time it was launched and he won the ball there was nobody in support.
Forwards have got to stay close together when attacking.

One of the things I noticed during these last 2 games is that when we are under pressure we end up playing with 1 up front. Instead of our 2 central midfielders getting in their opposite numbers faces and pressing the ball in midfield one of them tends to drop off and try to shield the area in front of the back four. As a result either Sharp or Clarke are always attempting to drop into midfield and provide pressure from the wrong side. This only serves to leave the other striker isolated and lacking support when we win possession and are forced to play forward quickly. How about our midfield 2 match their midfield 2 and we keep the 2 front men in more forward positions so that they can link up and give us a better platform to play off!

He has probably already had enough like the rest of us.

Apparently, according to a source from within the club, Sharp continued to boo George Long whenever he touched the ball throughout today's small sided game at Shirecliffe. Nigel Adkins and Nigel Clough happened to be at hand to speak to reporters and said that fans were to blame for the bibs 9 - 7 loss to non bibs.

Best that Sunjihai

I wonder is Kev would dare to sell Billy on deadline day. It wouldn't surprise me.

Really hope so! I read that Brum may be interested- a desire to pair him up with Che again - and we all know how well that partnership worked! Get him sold McCabe - must be worth at least £3m? Enough to buy Ched in January when it's clear that he's too good for league one and Chezzie are running away with it.

..turned into a mini version of Kitson? Diving, Dirty, petulant, chirping at the ref and suddenly lost all form.

I am still scratching my head why he wasn't sent off for punching the Southend player lying on the floor, lucky to get away with a yellow.
Well he definitely recovered from that phase didn't he?

Step aside Nostradamus

Billy Sharp is shit.

Not scoring as much as he used to and often injured. Oh, and he's fat.

Offload him to Fleetwood in January.

(sarcasm mode off)
