Why do all these Scottish journalists seem to hate Mcburnie?

I know he's now the most expensive Scottish player in history, but it feels like the journalists north of the border are absolutely determined he's rubbish and definitely going to fail! You'd of thought they might be happy to have more players good enough to play in the prem.

Cos he's signed for unfashionable Sheffield United. Had someone like Everton or West Ham signed him they'd be lovin it.

Why ?

Why indeed ?

Have a funny feeling about this one. Has all the hallmarks of here we go again discussing the footballing merits of someone who, bluntly, ain’t that good at football. An improved version of the universally popular James Hanson and Leon Clarke.

Just exactly how much improved, remains to be seen.

Jury’s out on this one I’m afraid.

For the fee we have paid, i desperately hope I’m wrong !

Because he's not from Scotland and at the same time, their only decent striker.

Championship is a much better League than it used to be, his goal tally proves he's a finisher. Can't think of many if any strikers in the premier league that are better in the air??

couldnt give two hoots what any journo thinks never mind ones from the footballing wasteland that is Scotland. Am not going to trot out the in wilder we trust line. But .... he clearly is very astute and clearly has a view on how he wants his team to play individually and collectively. If he sees that OMc can fit in with his plans then he will be a success. The point above about Fleck is really relevant. Maybe he has only played as well as he has because he is an integral part of our team. Replicating that elsewhere or at international level is not something the national management will or can do

It's a fair point if a 26 year old Kenny Dalglish was still available for £440,000 we should have definitely bought him instead. But he wasn't apparently.

I agree, it feels like a fuckin witch hunt for a lad who's had a good season and done nowt wrong, other than not play for one of the Glasgow 'giants' who pick up a lot of their best players From the championship.

I don’t read the Scottish press so I’ve no idea what they’re saying but I do get the impression that most of them are on poor quality drugs.

I have the same nagging feeling that we've paid massively over the odds for a championship striker. I really hope Wilder is right on this one but I have a bad feeling about it.

Speaking as some one of Scottish descent I think king Kenny himself would have struggled playing for mcleish's Scotland side the guy makes dinosaurs look innovative
Oli is big and mobile ,quick ,good feet strong in the air and intelligent dropping off the front

He's going to be a massive cult hero at the lane ,reminds me of deano but not the one who signed from Doncaster and grew from a gangly legged awkward youngster to a fearless premiership striker but the one who came back to us and struck fear into defenders hearts

He's got the lot and with the right guidance will be a top top player

So these are his attributes then ?Sounds handy 😀.

Give me 60-90 minutes watching him closely with dem 👀, and I’ll let you know if you’re anything like 😉.

I can’t ever remember James Hanson being “universally popular”....... He was bought for a specific job and it helped.....
Fingers crossed your as wrong on this one as you were Leon

You are entitled to your opinion. As am I.

I wasn’t 😉👀👀👀.

Judging EVERY single minute that Clarke wore the shirt, he was 60% rubbish, 20% below average and 20% OK/ Decent / Good.

IMHO.

Because he qualified for Scotland under the granny rule.

Sweaties want to see more Scottish-born players in the squad but the quality of Scottish-born players (Fleck excluded) is dire!

I think there is a heavy Celtic v Rangers influence in the Scottish press too.
Most journalists will support one or the other and be naturally biased against their rivals (McBurnie supports Rangers)
It's like Blades fans saying that Fleck should be in the Scotland team rather than Bannan and vice-versa.

For example, this bloke thinks that Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths should start ahead of McBurnie despite him being out for seven months and only scoring 11 goals in his last 36 Scottish Premiership matches:-

Beard.
Low socks.
Not proper Scottish.
Never played in the great SPL.
Supports Rangers.
Didn't set the world alight in his limited appearances for their shit team.
Lovely national team scapegoat potential.

I wouldn't worry about it - they don't rate Fleck either.
The Irish lot don't seem to rate McGoldrick very highly either.
Let's hope they are all overlooked for international call-ups and get some rest time during international breaks.

Just look at the Scottish top division and their national team. Scottish pundits wouldn't know a good footballer even if Messi was scottish.

My guess would be the Scottish national side of late has been woeful and would probably struggle against the Dog and Duck's second eleven. Casting around blaming anything and everything, the reporters hold a special level of resentment for any 'Scottish player who appears to be excelling in the English leagues and comes into the national side full of promise only to fail to replicate any of the supposed form once in a Scottish shirt. Despite the fact there any number of factors for this, the player themselves cops a hefty wedge of blame and basically get tarnished as traitors for not saving the Scottish side. Add to that all the stuff about McBurnie not being 'properly Scottish, playing in England and whatever else and they're going to loathe him.

I'll admit I'm a bit cautious but I'm guessing that's just because we've spent so much and I still can't get my head round us paying that much for anyone. Hopefully they're wrong, but they remain vitriolic so he doesn't get called up and end up getting injured or something at a crucial time.

I've noticed the anti-Rangers bias too and this goes up to the SFA- it's been speculated that one of the reasons Fleck was ignored by the selectors for so long was that he was a Rangers fan.

It would also help the Scottish national team if they stopped appointing completely shit managers.

I wouldn't worry, the Jocks are not exactly overflowing with football knowledge.
