Why can't we kill teams off?

When other struggling teams can turn in the occassional thumping, United always have to let the opposition get a goal grrrrrr

Not good enough!

Patience. Clough is improving things one problem at a time. We dropped our tempo after the third goal which is always a mistake in my opinion but I guess psychologically the job was done.

I'll take 3-1 wins at the moment thanks. 3-1 wins seemed an impossibility earlier in the season.

Is this serious?

Yes. We seem over many years to fail to thump teams but are often on the end of English cricket type collapses when the boot is on the other foot. With 19 shots on goal should do better than 3 goals.

I just hate it when we're 3-0 up and the other side goes and scores. Happens too often.

I expect a draw against Walsall (but a win would be nice.)

Cheer up@BladeFisher! Know what you're saying mate, but everything in context. The way we started the season we were certs for relegation, now? No guarantees, but today was a good result with what sounds like a good performance, so chin up, we won, ain't that good?

It was a daft free kick to give away, with the man on the touchline going away from goal, but if anything, it might help that there's something to keep them from getting carried away with themselves :)

Compared to many teams I think it's unusual for us to totally collapse. In all my years of supporting United I can only think of a handful of real thumpings we've taken.

I agree we don't very often hammer teams either, but to be honest it's pretty low on my list of priorities. We're not particularly prone to letting slip 3-0 leads, so if the opposition get one I don't worry too much.

Actually, of the teams outside the top 6 only 3 teams have conceded less goals than us. No-one has hammered us - we haven;t lost by more than 2 goals this season.

The problem is the attack, not the defence.

Remarkable. We have an XI out there today with a collection of everyone's favourite scapegoats, and win 3-1 despite the obvious improvements we need to make to this team. I'm bloody delighted with that result given the players we have. Why haven't we thumped a team? It might have something to do with the fact we aren't very good - a fact that I thought would have been obvious with the results and performances to-date this season.

The reason we lost the impetus is that we made the completely understandable substitution in saving Baxter's legs for a tricky away game at Walsall in 3 days time. Up until that point everything that was good was going through him, so it was not a surprise that we lost a bit of shape, especially after we made two more (again, understandable) substitutions.
It would have been 4 save for an excellent stop by the Tranmere keeper to deny Porter, and we conceeded the one due to an act of stupidity by Cuvelier in giving away a needless free-kick that McMahon reminded him of on the way back to the centre circle.

Chill out people, today was much improved :)

Keep off the Meths mate, it's no good for you.

Good result today. Shame we couldn't get a clean sheet.

Hopefully Flynn and Murphy are still here after January.

Two players I really like.

I'd say the number of shots, and those on target, is of far greater significance. I do like clean sheets though. That remains me, time for a last drink, then bed. A good day. Roll on 1/1/14 and the building continues.

Well the reason for the OP is pretty self evident. I never mentioned anything about scoring 4 or 5! It is simply a matter of momentum and how a game unfolds.

In this case side a runs into a 3-0 lead and then concedes, effectively winning by two clear goals. Now if Tranmere had scored first and we won 3-1 that feels a lot better than scoring three and they then score one.

What made it all the worse is it is rare we score more than two goals in recent seasons.

How can anyone like Flynn and Murphy. They along with most of the team are useless. We were playing Tranmere yesterday not Man Utd or Barcelona. It's no wonder they scored.
