Maybe Simpson had money to spend this season and didnt have to cut his playing squad and had no injuries in which case he has no excuses for this seasons performance. Whatever you feel about Blackwell he has had some valid excuses this season.
Brassmoulder was at Dalgety Bay when he turned to Flake and asked "Is Blackwell out". "No" he replied, "that was the sound of Raul coming out, Raul is gay"
:gallop:
I bet he didn't have a £14 Million wage budget and £3 Million for players.Maybe Simpson had money to spend this season
and he decided we didn't need Billy Sharp, David Cairney, Cotts, Kyle Reid, how much cash has he wasted on those last three names deemed not good enough.and didnt have to cut his playing squad and had no injuries in which case he has no excuses for this seasons performance. Whatever you feel about Blackwell he has had some valid excuses this season.
Paul Simpson got fired and has had a similar run to Blackwell in a similar time. But its a different club, different management, different division, different fans, different ambitions... so I don't think its that similar.
I've been on the 'Blackwell out' side of the fence for a couple of months now, but following last weeks forum, its clear that the club is not prepared to be bold and make a clear statement of intent for where we want to go and what we want to achieve. Why? Well we talked up our ambitions in the PL "5 years to Europe" target, the club tried to back it up by giving Robson a bottomless pit, tried to back it up by giving Blackie a decent budget for 2 seasons but its petered away now.
The club talk up games, season tickets, singing sections etc etc, but they'd be much better cutting the crap and setting a public target to go for, even if its promotion in two seasons or whatever, at least we'd know and perhaps we'd be more patient to what we're trying to achieve.
Its time for the club to to make a decision on the football side and whatever happens with or without Blackie we need to back the team or or back off... but more importantly, if Blackie's the manager come August, he needs a Squad of contracted players. I'd rather he was gone, because of what he brings to the club footballing wise, but if he's there, lets all back him...
Its been a long season and I'm ending it glad that after the next 90 mins it'll be finished for a few months... I'm just waiting to see what happens with our current manager
I honestly think the situations are very similar - or as similar as they can be. Shrewsbury to me would be one of the bigger clubs in that tier, they have a newish ground and I imagine reasonably high expectations. They lost in play-offs and then had a very disappointing season. Obviously I know it's a different club etc but it seems perfectly sensible to get rid of Simpson in exactly the same way it would be sensible in my eyes to get rid of Blackwell.
I don't see this need for a statment of intent. Just sack Blackwell - easy. Actions not words. Very short statement saying 'thanks Blackie but no thanks' and move on. I'm all for chairman saying as little as possible.
Whilst I agree with you (and actually, now is the right time for him to 'leave by mutual consent' in my opinion), if we haven't got money to pay for players, then we haven't got the money to pay off his contract. We do need a change though.
