Let’s face it.
our facilities are barely league 1 standard

😂 😂 😂 🐷💩

Been posted a couple of times this article now but is there really much difference in the capacity of the grounds now?

Wednesday's certainly isn't offering 40k+ in terms of safety. Just checked and it is reduced to 34,854 for safety reasons.

BDTBL I see is 32,050. So 2,804 difference. It's not as if they have been selling any more than 32,050 more than a couple of times in the past 2 decades and that has been end of season and folks coming out of the woodwork for a one off winner takes all survival type game.
They’ve been at reduced capacity due to health and safety for over a decade. That in itself speak volumes about the ground and how the club is managed.

It’s a shit hole of a ground and a fucking embarrassment to the city. Good job it’s not going to get any games, would put anyone off from ever coming to Sheffield if that shit box was their first impression.

It must hurt them. The eyes of the country will be on Bramall Lane for the semi final if England get that far. Then it won't be forgotten in future if England win a bid for a mens tournament

Don’t be daft. Dave Richards, Howard Wilkinson, Blunkett and Betts would make sure it goes back across the city. “But we’ve got a park you know”

I think Rotherham have a long standing relationship with the international women's game, hosting matches as far back as the 1990s.

But the article/comment is about why they chose BL over Hillsborough and the reasoning BL was chosen was that they don't expect crowds big enough to fill Hillsborough so opted for BL. have I got this wrong?

It may say that, but what they mean is Hillsborough won't be filled, there will be empty seats everywhere. Not because there wasn't the demand for tickets, but because it has been deemed unsafe.

You’ve got this wrong 😂

Old trafford and wembley have both been picked as well…

I suppose it's because it's so rusty and decrepit that you need a tetanus just looking at it on Google maps.

An easy choice, do you want a 32k capacity in the city centre that is up to Premier League standard or 34k on the outskirts that isn't anywhere near Premier League standard and struggles to get everyone in via the handful of entrances when they occasionally get near 30k supporters?

I hope it’s a success and highlights, what a class act and up to date modern stadium we actually have .
World wide exposure for our club & city
What’s not to like about Dem Blades getting a good name for us all
Beats the murder of 96 fans being your only claim to fame

They are just patronising United and giving Sheffield City Council the opportunity to set up the brown envelope tactic for when it really matters.

When the mens tournaments come around, Sheffield City Council will be lobbying like mad and promoting the swill as the stadium of choice because it has a park close by.

And because it doesn't want thousands of fans in the city centre with plenty of amenities for them.

Much better to have thousands of drunken football fans in residential areas like Hillsborough, Ecclesfield and Parsons Cross.

After all, there's 4 or 5 people that live in Sheffield City Centre that bought apartments without realising it would be noisy, and when they go home at 4.00 in the morning pissed they'd like it to be quiet.

Plus, another free upgrade for their favourite clubs stadium, so that they can continue to be as deluded in their massiveness for the next 50 years, until some renovation work needs doing of course, then they'll be too skint to keep it up to date having spent all their money trying to convince the world how massive they are with signings they can't afford.

They can also say "C'mon United, play fair, you had the women's tournament"

If their stadium isn't upto date for some women's competition which let's be honest, won't be heaving with crowds despite the best efforts of organisers, imagine how bad it is for PL football should they ever have to worry about it?
And if they ever reach the premiership who will pay for it not them but the FA again

The logical answer, of course, is that Bramall Lane is absolutely streets ahead in almost every single criteria required to host matches at an international tournament.

The pig view will be, of course, is that Hillsborough is far too big for a tinpot tournament like this so they didn't bother applying. Wednesday are instead applying to host the 2030 World Cup by themselves.

The 34,854 figure is only to meet EFL standards. UEFA standards are much higher and there's no chance Leppings Lane would be allowed to open.

If they were to somehow meet the other safety requirements, their UEFA-approved capacity would be around 28,000.

Shithouse full of scum even the tarpaulin fucked off during the winter 🤔 thread closed

We absolutely need a growth strategy and that includes increasing the capacity, any business who has ambitions needs to grow, football clubs are no different, look at west sham, new stadium(even though it’s horrid} has almost doubled its attendances and income, propelling them to Europe…we need an expanded lane to become the largest stadium in Yorkshire not just Sheffield.
