Why aren't we on the billionaires list?

It's a cracking place to live. The city centre has been transformed over the years and yes it was due to European grants. I do always wonder why Sheffield didn't do the same?. I live in the hope that one day a mega rich investor will come along and take us to another level!!. I think I might be waiting a while?. UTB

I did see on TV recently a program about Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool FC, Ricky Tomlinson also showed a copy of a letter which basically wrote about managing the planned decline of Liverpool (as a City) the letter was an internal Tory Party document. The Tories were actively orchestrating the decline, very sad really.
The program in question was about Liverpoll FC , covering the history and the life story of Kenny Dalglish. Maybe it is on youtube somewhere, really was interesting stuff.

You will never know if you don't bother asking. A few seasons back that massive League two outfit Leyton Orient were wearing the shirts with SAMSUNG across the chest, we could only dream of having such a globally well known name as a sponsor. Or maybe try MK Dons with SUZUKI on their shirts.

Like super pig I am Sheffield born and raised, but moved away for work many years ago, and didnt go back. I love Sheffield, and the people are very friendly. That said it is and always has been a glass half empty place. It is almost like for Sheffield folk, it is very bad to be seen to be positive.
It was hard hit in the 80s and maybe never fully recovered.

Sheffield is, or was when I was growing up there, a friendly place. Strangers would chat to each other. On one occasion I was up in Sheffield for a weekend and to take in a United game, a mate from Devon (Plymouth fan) came up with me. We spent the Saturday night in several pubs, spent ages having a laugh with some lads in one of the pubs. Later my mate asked who they were, I told him I didnt know them, he was very surprised. That to me that was what Sheffield was about, going into a local pub, having a laugh with friendly people. I was proud of the fact that he thought the people from my home city were so welcoming. (anyone who has lived in Devon will understand!).
I think the negative part is the way the city was hit by the bad times during the 80s, it was very run down for many years, the industrial history was taken away. This did have a lasting affect for a generation of Sheffield residents. I moved away for work, and carried on moving for several years. However, I always did return to watch United, and my lad who was not born in Sheffield is a mad United fan.

In my life as a blade 50, years ...I've been to Fulham when they struggled to get 4,000 in the ground, Chelsea when they had 7k in the ground . Middleborough 4,000 , arsenal19,000 I could go on and on ickusing 17,000 mancity v blades league game ))) football is ruined by money . the bigger clubs tend to be the less successful in their own cities. Birmingham are bigger than villa when successful. Bristol rovers have huge numbers when the event counts...man city in Manchester are bigger than united. Everton are Liverpool's club..blades within Sheffield have better numbers than pigs who attract south Yorkshire numbers
..sky ruined affordability in football , passion in support and fairness ) grassroots is the core of football it has more loyal support it produces the players the fake big clubs go and buy. Your club is the heartbeat of its community not foreign dollar.

Do you dream of a globally well known name as a sponsor?

As I said, I doubt companies such as Boeing or McClaren venturing into football sponsorship.

Suzuki GB headquarters is on MKD's doorstep so are in effect a local employer.
 
I have an idea, why not raise season ticket prices to £ 5 thousand. The club would not then need a billionaire chairman because we would be self sustaining with our 25/30 thousand fan base.

Result.

The "letter" was actually an internal memo written by Howe to Thatcher suggesting it. There was no official policy of managing or even orchestrating a decline for the city. The very thought of someone even thinking it is repugnant but stuff like that needs the facts rather than fiction. Particularly as it was after the 1981 riots when Heseltine was battling for regeneration funds for the area. So a bit much for anyone to say the government were orchestrating decline when they were actually transferring Urban Development funds from other areas. I don't believe Thatcher was a fan but she went with Heseltine, not Howe.

I suspect demand is elastic with that price hike so ticket revenue would be less than it currently is.

We still need a billionaire ;)

I'm fairly sure a club like ours should have higher profile sponsors than the likes of John Holland cars and Teletext Holidays as this season we have had quite a lot of exposure on TV

You seem to think of the sponsor as a badge of honour: improving as we progress and get TV exposure - it isn't; the company who offers the most money to sponsor our shirt, gets it.

I'm not trying to be a rude, but I find it a little sad you think that way too. Why would you want some soulless corporation to sponsor you? A local company is far more appealing to me.

Anyone who cares to spend a couple of minutes on John Holland's website will notice they are considerably more than a local second hand car salesroom. This is another Sheffield thing that pisses me off, take a local company who are actually successful and make a load of dough and do we celebrate them? Do we fuck, lets belittle them instead. I suppose it keeps the Esablade s of this world happy.

Can you show where I 'belittle John Holland' or any other successful Sheffield company for that matter?

Your initial assumption appeared to be that MKD has managed to snag a worldwide brand as a sponsor and we couldn't. Suzuki GB is local to them and makes sense.

John Holland Cars are a bit more than a local car dealer btw.

Even if some weren't aware of the above it's fairly easy to find out.
