I was in the school year above Jeff and also played in the same team when I was in the 6th form. I was a shit goalkeeper who came in when the regular one couldn't play so I was grateful on several occasions when Jeff played in front on me.

Once I was truly indoctrinated, and in proper memory, Vass Borbokis, Jan Aage Fjortoft, Paul Devlin, David Holdsworth and the incomparable Alan Kelly are the ones that really stand out from my younger Blade days.

No it was Deano that scored both goal but Webster played brilliantly playing up front with Deano ( Agana wasnt match fit yet)

I went to same school as David Ford and later he lived down the road from us on Parkhill Flats. Fordie sort of adopted me at school, he was four years older than me but I sometimes played in the older teams. Went on to play kick about every Sunday morning with Ford and Charlie Bell his big mate - roll up on the play area in front of The Parkway, sometimes 14 a side: great, great days.

Yes they were my heroes before they were pro footballers. Why? Because they were reight good lads who always encouraged me as a young 'un. Dave could play, Charlie couldn't really. Lost touch as we grew up

Then Fordie started to play for Wednesday and I obviously wanted nothing to do with him. When Charlie started playing for United it was hard to believe, but he did and he was an honest player who did his best. Funnily enough we played him a fair bit up front as well as his usual centre half

When David Ford joined United I had mixed feelings, mostly that he wasn't good enough. Did I make myself known to either of them? Of course I didn't - see the "Meeting players" thread.

So many. In my first few seasons watching it was Deano, Dane Whitehouse and Alan Kelly. Slightly later it was Vas Borbokis, Jan Aage Fjortoft and Marcelo. In my late teens is was Jags and Morgs.

If I had to pick one, Morgs. Arrived late in what I would consider my "boyhood" but gave more in 90 minutes than I've seen most of our past and present players give in an entire career. Ultimate Captain and a true Blade.

My old man's hero was TC. To say he idolised him is an under statement.

Alan Kelly was a hero and I still think he was one of the best keepers I've seen, got to have Nathan Blake as well as he scored the first senior team goals I saw against Newcastle. Someone needed the toilet just as we were attacking and he scored as I was half way down the Kop nearly got thrown on to the pitch by me dad.

Dave Powell... he seemed somehow shinier and blonder than any other players and that seemed to matter to an 8 year old.

He was beyond doubt one of the best we've had in the last 45 years and if he had not been done at QPR would have graced Div 1
