Who to Sign in the JTW?

I'll continue to try and convey my point in a reasonable manner, without being lured by your opposite approach.

Nobody suggested signing John Brayford, on loan or permanent, before his loan spell under Clough. This loan spell later transpired to be the initial fuel for the rumour of a permanent signing. So it's quite obvious some would have suggested a permanent, but as I say, this was after the loan spell had already surfaced those rumours.

Similarly with Sharp, posters only began to start suggesting and discussing whether or not to re-sign him once Adkins had been appointed, as a result of the known connection between them.

I see. So you've decided to change the meaning of your categorical statement of "We never sign anyone that gets suggested" with new caveats to back away from it, because you've realised how ridiculous it was. Most posters would have simply avoided this with a simple "sorry, I think I didn't make myself clear in my original comment – what I meant was players that previously had no connection to the club. I can see how that would have been misinterpreted. Obviously fans suggested we re-sign players like Brayford – that's not what I meant".

Sharp was "suggested" on numerous occasions prior to Adkins's appointment. He was suggested during Clough's time to the extent Radio Sheffield actually asked him about it in his weekly interview. He was suggested before that too. The more solid rumours (and genuine links) for Sharp then began after Adkins's appointment – inevitable given their past history. But to deny that he was suggested prior to that by fans, on here and elsewhere, is utterly and inexplicably bizarre.

This doesn't change the fact that the act of suggesting these names on here has zero influence on making the moves happen. But to deny that fans have suggested some names that have been signed is like saying nobody has ever asked about the GCB ring tone on a United forum.

I haven't changed anything. My original stayement still remains 100% accurate. If you can't see it, or don't want to see it (for fear of being seen to lose face or otherwise), then that's your own problem I'm afraid. I've explained how that statement was accurate, now it's over to you to read and digest. Unfortunately, it seems like you would prefer to act as though I've changed the meaning of what I said to try and get away from the realisation of the truth in it. Reading and interpretational skills are maybe areas to focus on with regards to your improvement, not that you'd be humble enough to admit to your mistakes in the first place.

Yoy have clearly changed something. Your assertion was proved to be incorrect, as pointed out, then you subsequently qualified your statement.

It's that simple.

Is being a punch bag someone is continually rubbish, and people point out that they are continually rubbish? :)

But seriously, wouldn't you agree that said players have been continually rubbish? Am I missing something?

I’d say Woolford has been more or less continually rubbish. However, I’d say Sammon has been far from it. Last 3 games have been poor but he’s hand plenty of good games this season. He is out of form but it can turn. 2 weeks ago Billy was getting stick and now he’s back. Same could happen for Sammon. Even Woolford, poor as he is, he’s doing a job for the team at present. Long term, I hope Adams, JCR or a new signing will displace him but what he’s bringing to the table currently is helping us pick up a few points.

I wasn’t on this forum when we first signed Brayford but on Blades Mad, after Clough had been appointed, people talked about some of his old players and whether we might be able to lure any of them. John Brayford, Ben Pringle, Mason Bennett, Johnny Russell, Connor Sammon, Jake Buxton etc were all mooted but were rubbished as unrealistic and at a level we couldn’t sign.

Billy Sharp was a name on many blades’ lips in the summer of 2014 when we went for Higdon and McNulty.

When Adkins was appointed, there was obviously speculation about whether he would look to bring Billy with him as he often has in the past. The fanbase were and still are largely divided on whether it would be a good idea.

Dean Hammond was suggested in the summer when Adkins took over.

When a manager is appointed, it’s common to look at the better players that have played under him that might be available and speculate or suggest that they might/should sign them.

Chris O Grady was another that many fans suggested before we signed him.

Pretending otherwise to try to suit your agenda is just silly.

Well I'm telling you now that my post above was an explanation to the original statement.

This is pretty much exactly how I see it.

Discussions over Billy Shap only took off once Adkins had been appointed.

Discussions over John Brayford only began following his loan spell.

Both of these statements absolutely correct. It wouldn't be just silly to go against them either, it would be rather stupid.

Same as what we should have bought in the last two windows, a centre back

Except Foxy suggest Brayford in November 2013. Rather stupid indeed

Has to be defenders that can actually defend, NA has had to change tactics to bolster midfield to contain and protect the back four, personally disappointed it took him 20 games to identify it. Nobody knows the budget he has in January, but at least one centre half has to be priority if funds are available two and possibly a left back that appears to becoming an issue. Hopefully if we get defenders who are capable of defending without back to back cover we can utilize some of the creative players we allegedly have in midfield.

Oops. Above posts should be in the Blades getting the better of world class players thread.

DUO END OLDHAM LOANS

Some more loan news as Michael Higdon and Jay Fulton have returned to their parent clubs after loans with Oldham.

Higdon heads back to Sheffield United and Fulton returns to Swansea.

Could do with getting someone to sign this donkey in the JTW

Yeah I'd look to get rid of Higdon but in the meantime, could be an option for the bench.

This was your post. The links I just posted proved it's utter bollocks.

To be honest I think id rather have Neil Collins up top... they will run about the same but Collins might win a header.

Got to get shut, hopefully Oldham want him back. Not too sure how well he did but I remember him scoring a couple of goals early into his loan spell.

Yes. Read the top line carefully.

The top line is

"Discussions over Billy Sharp only took off once Adkins had been appointed."

The link I've posted showing him talked about back in April 2014 (Over a year before Adkins was appointed) prove this to be absolute bollocks.

Repeatedly saying "Read my post" is a poor attempt to deflect from the fact you are talking absolute nonsense. Rather than those shitty deflection attempts how about discussing how you think your comments are not bollocks. Try to justify your position with proper discussion. That's something you often challenge others to do but so often fail to do yourself.

Try to justify your position with proper discussion.
That's exactly what I've done in reply to another poster.

Did it really take off back in April 2014?

Was it actual discussion or was it just the usual murmurs in regards to ex players?
