Who should Sheffield United fans be supporting in German football?

Anyone watch the matches ? Watched a bit of it quite odd no crowd noise but enjoyed what I saw, better than watching box sets or movies nice to see some sport "live".

Watched Dortmund demolish Schalke. Both sides very rusty but once BVB got going it was embarrassingly one sided. Schalke were appalling, really. Schoolboy errors aplenty, and fuck knows who their keeper was but I'd have trusted Simmonsen over him. Dortmund were playing at a walking pace by the 80th minute.

It was weird but also quite interesting. I think a lot of it is going to come down to mentality and focus for players. What picks your side up when you're two down and there's no fans to lift the team? Schalke may have been outclassed today, but it was still a derby and there was no fight in them whatsoever. I'd be embarrassed if we played like that against Wednesday, even at 3 or 4 goals down.

This next one should be a laugh. Monchengladbach have just scored after 37 seconds!

Watched the last fifteen minutes. Started with Dortmund-Schalke but at 4-0 and with no fans, it seemed like there was no more intensity than a warm-up.

Switched over to watch RB Leipzig concede a last minute winner, until VAR overturned it.

It’s not great without fans, but it’s better than the alternative at present.

I switched over after Dortmund scored the 3rd goal. Monchengladbach already 2 up after 6 minutes!

I remember Gladbach being a big club in the 70s.

Watched part of the Dortmund game and my onlyobservation is that football without crowds isnt football as I know it....and I'm not sure it's any better than no football at all.

Accepted I'm not bothered about German football and expect to feel different when we r playing bit of just doesnt feel at all right

Just watching frankfurt , football with out a crowd = no point !

Watched my Breisgau Brazilians steal a point away at Leipzig. It was real park the bus stuff - but we’d have got all 3 points but for a very tight VAR disallowed goal in extra time.

The game seemed a lot less aggressive than our football, and zero diving or hassling the ref.

It was a bit funny with no crowd - but I’d researched my team - we’re just outside Europa places and so plenty to play for - and I still screamed at the telly for 90 minutes - mind you I’m so sad that I watched a youtube FIFA version of the game before kick off and still shouted at that!

Freiburg manager is a local bloke who has been there most of his life - so a bit like Tufty. I’m really attached to them already!

Tell that to all the parents who watch their kids play football ! No "crowd" or "atmosphere" there and I get to watch some marvellous football played by my sons 10 year old team! :p

Watching the Blades play crowd or no crowd is better than not watching them at all.

Gotta be Union for me - love Berlin, can't bring myself to support a club in blue n white stripes...so only one choice really (it helps that they're cool as f**k as well)

That’s a fantastic piece of work.

Brilliant story and so many similarities with our own recent rise

Cheers for sharing

Hertha Berlin.

For a time in the 1970s I lived in Berlin in the Heerstrasse, very close to the Olympic stadium where Hertha played their home matches so took an interest in them.

The whole friendship thing really confused me at times, e.g. the time I was at Bochum (against Union, iirc) and the bloke in front of me had a Bayern scarf

Edit - just checked, yep, vs Union - I miss paying 12 euros for a game of football were I can stand with a beer and the ticket will get me to and from my hotel 30 miles away

yeah, prices are amazing, especially when you factor local travel which most clubs offer.

you have to be careful when talking to fans about other clubs but Bayern are almost like a universal club for a number of Germans.

I was in Templehof for 6 months in 86... great time but never saw any footie..

Spend a lot of time in Hannover so have a soft spot for “the reds” as a kid went to Bochum and stayed opposite the ground. Fond memories of watching Liverpool vs Bayern Munich walking home and being given a lift by police. Host family were mortified. Dilapidated stadium blue and white down on their luck. I can think of a more suitable twin club in Sheffield.
