Been getting some grief from a wendy over the fact United don't own the ground anymore ?
I wasn't aware of this and wondered if anyone could shed any light on this please

McCabe owns the ground and charges us rent. Think I've read somewhere it's something like £65,000 a year (which goes straight back into the club).

Sheffield United PLC and therefore Kevin McCabe, leasing to Sheffield United Football Club Limited and therefore Kevin McCabe and the Prince.

All football grounds under a club chairman and a board the chairman owns the ground, Abramovich owns Stamford Bridge
The Emirates belongs to Arsenals board , likewise our board own the ground hence we own our ground its all semantics, If as some want McCABE sells the club , the new owners would own the ground , what else are you paying big money for , certainly not the team .Sheffield United Football Club Limited is worthless without the stadium

Just as a point of pedantry, I believe it's the collective McCabe family, rather than Kevin as an individual.

It is of course, but until he decides to fully retire, he'll be pulling the strings :)

Who owns the freehold!???!!!

:)
whoever owns the club ,again like most clubs
its like when you buy a house , the bank holds the freehold until you pay it of , if you sell it the new owners own it , or again the bank or mortgage lender does till its paid off , mccabes written off the debt so the ground belongs to whoever owns sheffield united ltd, just now its him and the prince ,, in theory

The Prince has no stake in SU Ltd only the FC.

The Scarborough Trust ie the McCabe family owns the company that owns the ground. The Prince has a 50% stake in its subsidiary SUFC ltd.

well the "club" which is McCabe, as he owns us , is wholly owned by sheffield united as much as any other club "owns" it,s own ground.
If hes charging rent , hes sending bills to himself , in theory

I am sure this type of structure and ownership arrangements are primarily designed to separate the most valuable asset, BDTBL from the football trading company in the event of insolvency/liquidation. An approach designed to protect the ground from claims by creditors.

This arrangement makes good commercial sense, and is a well used strategy in business.

..so where is the safety certificate?

Funny you had to mention the last bit. Also, as usual BTL jumps in to defend McCabe and the ground situation. He (via his company I assume) owns the ground and charges us rent. So far so clear. How do we know that money as little as it may be goes straight back into the club? Its a fair question and not one that needs to prompt the usual level of aggravation from people.

Next : Should the club go into Administration and worse still out of business does that mean McCabe and his company own the ground and as such it is not part of SUFC and its liabilities? Assuming that is the case what would happen when McCabe decides to call it a day? Does the ground still belong to his company? Does he get the chance to sell it back at a profit (he wouldn't of course)?

You see to me the one thing all of this lacks is transparency. Why does McCabe and/or his company own the ground? What benefit does it pose to us?

Ive just realised the next star wars film wont have the 20 th century fox intro
wont be the same

It won't be the same on many levels but we can cast McCabe as the evil emperor so every cloud has a silver lining eh?
