A daft title, of course. In terms of his story and what he means to us, he's irreplaceable. What I mean is who is going to take up his role in the team at Sheffield United when he hangs up the boots?

Good teams have a focal point, don't they. A reliable fellow up front who you can count on for goals most of the time. Ours is obviously Billeh. But even though he looks like he could play forever (when fit, of course), he's not getting any younger.

As a footy fan I'll watch any game going no matter what division it's in, but I'm rubbish at knowing where the talent is and who the up-and-comers are.

So where would you look to find the next striker we can fall in love with? Is there anyone out there who has a similar style of play (battling, in your face, nightmare for defenders, great finisher etc.) that we can poach? Is that man already at club in your mind?

There won’t be one for a long time. He’s a generational player for us.

In my time watching the Blades (I’m 37) we’ve had Deane and him. The older Blades have seen Edwards, even older ones have seen Hagan.

There won’t be another along for a good few years. Just a shame we had Blackwell or he’d have been a 1 club man.

Once we lose a goal scorer we usually have to wait 5 years before we get another. Sharp, Ched, Beattie, Brown, Deane

Already at the club.

Just like Championship Manager but this time th Regen isn't even trying to hide itself:

Will(Billy) Lank shear(Sharp)

So blatant!

It is hard in today's football, especially for a striker. At least if you are looking for the player to stay for most of his career. It might not be another one for 50 years.

The player has to not break through too early and not be too good for the bigger clubs to be interested.

He has to be just good enough and maybe lack a bit ambition in combination with a love for the club. The club will also have to be steady. Relegation and he might be gone.

Good point. Time have changed. I suppose what I'm trying to say is where could such a player potentially come from within reason?

There are some very knowledgeable posters on here who know their players and know who's doing well elsewhere. Interested to hear who they think could make the move to Bramall Lane and make a name for themselves.

You don’t replace players like Billy. You simply have to adapt when they’re gone. He’s a once in a generation leader, goalscorer & (importantly) Blade.

I feel sorry for the next guy to take up the mantle, because they’re on a hiding to nothing.

Perhaps Osulu? Obviously to emulate Billy, he'll have to leave at the end of season, score a shitload of goals for someone like Lincoln, come back, score a few then get dropped in favour of 'bigger names', leave for another 5 years, come back aged 30 as the returning prodigal son and score 100 goals for us.

Warnock sold him before Blackwell did.

I'd say in terms of striker, talisman, club captain, general great bloke I'd say he's irreplaceable

I don't think a replacement necessarily has to be a poacher like sharp. Look at the top scorers in the division, Sharp is joint 10th. Teams find the next man to score the goals all the time. We have just had the same one for a long time. We would need better if promoted anyway.
