Who is our Player of The Decade?

3 big contenders for me, all have valid cases for winning.

Billy Sharp, Chris Basham and Mark Duffy

Sharp is our talisman and although he scored loads of goals we shouldn’t forget his influence in making the dressing room so positive with players giving 100%.
He’s probably the single most factor/ player that helped us rise up the tables.

Chris Basham is a walking miracle....he was average league 1 standard under Adkins but always gave 100%.
He was seen as a modern day Chris Montgomery....a bit shit but received support because he gives everything for the club....full commitment
but the way he’s improved and improved again...showing bits of skill and class like a modern day Franz Beckenbauer seems almost impossible.

Mark Duffy.....another one who was average league 1 standard out on the wing.
Wilder gives him a floating midfield role and he very quickly turns into David Silva.
Duffy has been a class player for us, love his style and has probably the player I’ve enjoyed watching the most.

Its almost impossible to pick....from a purely selfish pleasure receiving level it has to be Mark Duffy
but looking at the bigger picture....the player who has played the biggest part in our historic rise....then I’m changing my vote to Billy Sharp.
However I still think Chris Basham deserves an award for his role too, he should be immensely proud of his journey.

Good to have plenty of choices. For me between Sharp & JOC. Would go for JOC as since he signed team won pub league, in real contention in champ, promoted in champ and now excelling in Prem. During this period has played more league games than any other player and must be close to England call up (fuck me if Gomez can get picked). What more could he have done?

Sir William.

Bash......is this the same player that we signed?
Fleck, Coutts and Duffy.

Lots of contenders of course.
But he was instrumental in digging us out of the abyss of the 1st division, for which I will always be grateful.

Didn’t we have some crazy record of never losing when he played?

I get you, but surely the likes of Egan, Fleck, Norwood should be higher in any ‘best’ player list. Wright only ever played regularly in the third division.

Bash deserves the Bob Booker award for outstanding contribution, but it's impossible to see past Billy.

My second-born son would be called Billy if it wasn't for my wife overruling me, but I'll always remember the time he was born as it was exactly 30 minutes after Billy equalised against Bournemouth!

We didnt lose when he scored for over 3 seasons. Until last season v Bristol City at home when we lost 3-2.

Sharp, Fleck ,JOC ,Maguire, Bash

In that order, but especially Sharp due to his season under Adkins which he carried us away from the relegation zone then to firing in 30 in Tufty's first season.

It’s a quite incredible 4 yr record he has had and fully deserves the team of the decade accolade.

In the limited time he has had on the pitch this season, hasn’t looked at all out of place and has been genuinely unlucky to have started a solitary match in the first half of the season.

BILLYgol still got some miles in that there tank, of that I have no doubt.

UTB.

Anyone pre-2016, Harry Maguire apart, might as well be consigned to the dustbin, the special fluorescent ones marked toxic waste.

Sharp followed by Basham, especially considering they're the two who are still here from the really dark times, still getting in the side and were playing for us when the Premier League was something that was a pipe dream that might happen again one day, never mind being 5th three years later!

Bash for me. From being pretty shite in very shite times, to coming through and doing himself proud (when he moved to the back and became Bashembauer) by always giving everything and becoming a proper Blade...then through 3 divisions and now doing himself proud in the Prem.

Just because he never gives up and has grown with us, epitomised everything we're about and consistently stepped up at big moments when we needed him (putting in challenges when we need a lift, his rampaging runs, the Leeds goal etc) he sums up our last few years for me.

Sharp is the obvious shout.

Less obvious, but worthy of consideration, is the genesis of our transformation as a football club.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you

Coutts 😀👏

"What was happening was that Couttsy was unbelievable in training, he was dominating training games but he was still on the transfer list.

It was getting to a point where we were losing games & we played Walsall & Couttsy came on at HT & the game changed. From that game it just snowballed and we went on that amazing run"

1, Billy Sharp scored plenty of goals for us.
2, Chris Basham is the most consistent player.
3, John Egan is a very reliable best defender.
.

Basham for me. Very closely followed by Sharpe and then all the other players who are still here from the promotion seasons.

We might have been relegated to league 2 in the Adkins season if it wasn’t for Billy’s 20 goals.

Tonnes of goals, captained us to two promotions and could’ve made huge amounts of money elsewhere if he wasn’t so loyal and loved the club.

A blades icon for the ages, Billy Sharp

It was actually August 16 against Southend at home when Couttsy came on for the second half and transformed our season. First game I had seen JOC, and he scored a beaut own goal after 5 minutes! We were 3-0 down at HT and all over the shop.

Coutts came on, sat back and sprayed the ball around and we were a completely different team. We still lost 3-0, but the world seemed a better place. Next match away at Millwall we played much better but still lost. Cue the beer on the bus story - the rest is history. James Wilson (the other one) headed the winner against Oxford and we were off to 100 points and 30 goals for Billy.

We never replaced Couttsy after his busted leg next season at Burton. Norwood has always been just a poor second best.

Magic Bygone Days

Bar Bash n Billy ... Didsy n Duffy n coutts all a joy to watch

Special mention fir mist surprised. Leon Clark .. didn't want him.. but he was class

If he wins this poll we’re on the pitch. Just checked his Wikipedia page: nearly 600 appearances and 200 goals in a 20 year career. Not bad.
