Bit of a quandry for Chris as our midfield is looking tight at the moment with Cal, Brooks, Syd and Riedewald all doing well. Also Chong and Blaster to return soon so where does Wilder play gus?
Some have said that we look better without Gus which is ridiculous. We need our best player in so who get's the boot?

If we’re to lose 1 of the 4 you mention, for me it has to be Brooks.
Be unfair to drop COH as he’s in great form.
Sydie & Jairo forming a very good partnership.
Brooks for me is the weak link at present. He’s frustrating to watch for large parts of the game then comes to life for 5 minutes.

Who plays where though is another problem & maybe a different formation gets used?
Was interesting last night when Hamer came on, Wilder pushed COH up front with Ings.

Decisions, decisions, decisions……

Peck looks way better with Jairo in the team so we cant play Gus central. Last season CW used him on the left and thats where he'll play again i think.

Then it depends on formation. I think we r better with 2 up front which means Ohare will have to play on the right. As it stands is think this is potentially our best team

Anyone really.

What do we think Gus + Jairo would look like?

I like Sydie, but we're talking about probably the best midfielder in the league

I'd imagine Chong and Brooks are competing for the right side. Hamer or O'Hare on the left side with O'Hare also able to play alongside a striker or as a 10.

Basically what he did last year

Can't see Wilder playing Gus centrally and even more so, I can't see him dropping Peck..

Biggest quandary for the middle will be when Blaster is back up to speed, could we see Blaster & Peck together?

Brooks could play central midfield and is therefore flexible enough to come on off the bench to cover a number of positions and has the ability to open teams up

If Hamer comes back in it has to be for Brooks, I think he's there to back up Serikis forward runs, but he didn't do much last night tbh, better off the bench imo

Jairo is far better than Sydi…..however, CW is unlikely to drop him….IMO he would benefit from a rest. Brookes is inconsistent but needs a run in the team

It will be probably be Brooks but I wouldn’t underestimate his role in this team, it could easily not work as well despite us bringing back our best player in Hamer.

My only hesitation with this is that Hamer isn't our future and this season is meaningless (assuming we start to pull ourselves to safety).

Do we invest the minutes in Brooks?

I think we ( me included) still get trapped in the thought that the game is still 1-to-11 , with the starting 11 being the all important decision ,, with so many subs allowed these days the selection of who on the bench and why is as vital as who starts

Out midfield is weak as piss 11 v11 they constantly cut through us last night, as most have this season

We still need a big athletic lad in midfield

I would use Gus off the bench for now … he will be gone in Jan anyhow

COH is better as a 10 with 1 up top

The good thing is we can play different ways now with two up as proved last night

Its good to have tough decisions like this! Saturday will be interesting against a stronger team on paper.

Do we revert to 1 up top and in which case Hamer slots in nicely. But the counter to that is Tom Cannon seems to have taken small steps forward, be a shame to see that stop. (personally thought it was a shame that One didn't come on last night instead of Ings)

Brooks is the most frustrating forward player currently, but his data from the derby showed his workrate getting back is much higher than Hamers would be.

Would be an ultimate Shithouse move of Wilder to move to one of Selle's favoured formations (with other sides) in a 4-2-2-2

Looking at the size of Gus’s equator I mean waist last night, I suspect he only has a maximum 50 minutes in him before he starts blowing pizza slices out his arse, then we can bring Brooke’s on.

O'Hare and Hamer can't play together? Yet we managed 92 points last season with them largely playing together and went off the boil when Brewster replaced O'Hare.

So back to not being able to progress the ball centrally, working it wide to the left back to dink it down the line and hope Campbell can get there first?

Until Arblaster comes back, I'll be surprised if by the time Hamer can start, this isn't the starting XI

Cooper
Seriki Tanganga Mee McCallum
Peck Riedewald
O'Hare Hamer
Bamford Campbell

Bamford allowing the ball to go direct and centrally is going to be huge. I think he starts every game he's able to

I don't think anyone should drop out for Gus at the moment. This system is working and I'd be tempted to continue with it until our fortunes change. Definitely don't want to revert to one up top.
Hamer will be fine coming on in the 2nd half for a couple of games, then we're into the festive period and I'd expect to see some squad rotation anyway

We do look more balanced as a team without Gus on the left. O’Hare is a lot better tactically in the position but you give up on Hamer’s creative spark.

O’Hare is in the form of his life so he needs to be in the team, I think Hamer goes LW and we go back to one up front with O’Hare off the shoulder.

What happens when Arblaster is back?
