Who can do magic ??

Who was the last blades player that you truly got excited about when they got the ball? One that you knew could do something magical that others couldn't, or that would make you get you out of your seat in anticipation....? Don't give me players like Macdonald or SQuinn. I'm struggling to think of anyone in recent times. When will we - if ever - see someone like that again?

Glyn Hodges and Deano probably, although Michael Brown did score some crackers.

Providing Diego does recover from his injury, he has the talent.

If Clough does bring him through, don't expect him to be with the club for long.

We are desperate for a hero, let's pray someone does come through the ranks as it won't be through a signing given the crap we've seen in recent years.

In recent years the only player I can really wanting us to get on the ball was the lad on loan Matt Phillips from Blackpool and he wasn't even our bloody player but yes I felt something about that lads ability at the time and just wanted everyone to pass him the ball as I saw him as one of those players who could either score or make a goal.

Bit of a bad suggestion really but that is just plucking one from the air in recent years who I actually thought had some real ability and got me out of my seat, ish.......in comparison to players of the past however......

When Ched was in the height of his goalscoring season with United he gave you a bit of a feeling as well I guess...When he was at the top of his confidence he would pick the ball up and run at players a bit and as he kept popping them away you always thought he was good for a bit of magic or a goal but again not really on par with players of yesteryear.

Can't really think of any modern day currie's, edwards or woodward's. Would love someone like this at the lane again, someone with the the magic ability to run with the ball glued to the foot and weave in and out of players with ease like currie.........can only dream.

Good call bout hodges , just tell him not to celebrate in front if Kop by jumping over adverts , and the Sunderland player did' nt mean it . Brown v the pigs yeah baby yeah .

I enjoyed watching the Lowton/Williamson/McDonald combination down the right a couple of seasons back. For three or four months I thought we looked very good.

Prior to that, down the other side Harley/Brown/Tongue were the best combination in the second tier for a few months ten years back.

Individually, going back, Hodges could do things the rest of the team couldn't (chose not too quite a bit too).
Deane and Agana in tandem were very watchable.
Liked Kevin Arnott a lot.
The Morris/Edwards link up was a sight for sore eyes.
Sabella was a shining light in an otherwise dire period.
Badger/Currie/Woodward were the trio that meant I was hooked for life (bastards!).

Not a lot to show for 50 years but better than a lot of clubs (especially in the south Barnsley area).

I loved his disappearing football trick. Oh how the south stand marvelled as, with a flick of the ankle he made the ball disappear during his corner routine. People gasped as the ball miraculously reappeared moments later halfway up the Kop!

Agreed. It was strange how he seemingly lost the ability to "dribble" overnight.
He didn't have any bad injuries as far as I can remember he just stopped (successfully) taking people on.

Ndlovu used to be appear regularly on the "Showboat" section of Soccer AM circa 2003.
Probably the first and last Blades player to do so.
Maybe not all his tricks were productive (that's showboating for you) but still great to watch.

Kyle Naughton attacking from full back,he always caused problems for the opposition,Michael Brown,Colin Morris,Andy Reid(now at Forest) he is class,Peter Ndlovu,Don Hutchison.

I can think of one who no-one has mentioned so far, that's if goalkeepers are allowed. That's Mel Rees god bless him who only played 9 times for us. But the way he used to calmly catch shots which any ordinary mortal would be lucky to get a hand to to tip round the post or over the top was awe inspiring. But I agree the norm for a long time now has been players who "can do a job" and that's all. All the flair players we have got in have failed to impress the manager and then been dropped and eventually transferred.
