"Michael is a player who I really admire," McCabe said.

"We all know how talented he is with his speed and finishing. I also saw him play for Malta in a qualifier against Hungary not long ago.

"Last season, we tried to settle on a deal for Mifsud but no agreement was reached at the time. But now that he is available again I will talk to manager Kevin Blackwell and see whether he fits in his plans.

"If we get the manager's nod, Sheffield United will do everything possible to bring Mifsud to Bramall Lane."

From the Times of Malta

Don't like the sound of that. Mebbes McCabe did sign Boggy over Blackie's head after all.

Who buys our players? Well, other clubs buy them off us. Like Jags and Paddy.

After all, until we have bought them they aren't ours. They are somebody else's.

Yeah good thinking Len, I'm sure it would've gone down with our sponsors much better if he'd said "He's shit, we won't be signing him". Besides, you answered your own question:

McCabes interview should be taken with a pinch of this stuff.

Having said that, I will be very pissed off & more than a little concerned if we do end up with him.

Hopefully its just PR......

He did have a great game against us for Coventry once. Drove Sun Jihai into a spectacular act of martial arts which would have earned him three red cards if the ref had any more to wave.

Also remember him having a great game at Old Trafford in League Cup. Why he's dropped off the radar I've no idea.

That 45 mins was a really stand out performance from an away player that season... but he's not done much since

Irrespective of how good he is, my concern would be about the motive behind signing another Maltese player.

This has already been discussed in another thread and the point has been made. But more to the point........who cares?!

Who cares whether we're buying players to help sponsorship?
Given our past record with Chinese deals, I think it's worth an airing.

Well you cared yesterday when you posted "If he has said that then its a poorly placed comment. The directors should not be commenting on which players we may or may not be interested in. The manager should choose the players, I firmly believe that and always will."

Who buys our players? In the case of Dong, Carney, Li Tie, Haber and Bogdanovich, I think the answer is fairly obviously McCabe. To be fair Li Tie contributed on the pitch and Bogdanovich might do. It would be interesting to know if the amount we've paid on wages for those players has been exceeded by the "marketing" revenue they've helped to rake in? Haber, probably. Carney, very doubtful.

len, we need to go back one step to work this out.....

Who do you think should be repsonsible for buying our players. If we can identify exactly who that ought to be, we can dismiss them straightaway, it clearly won't be them, that's what a well run club would do.

By default, there'll be some people at the club left on that list, all the wrong ones, so it must be them, because we're Sheffield United.

To be honest, I'd have expected you to be able to work that out yourself, it's nae rocket science.

I may have missed it, but you haven't said much about Ertl's arrival, he'd surely be worth a slagging off, arriving from a team that only just avoided relegation. And the two lads from Stoke, not confirmed yet, but you'd generally go to town based only on a rumour, so where are you?........

To be fair Trig, I think your post attempted to play the man rather than the ball.
As for Ertl, just a jobsworth body to help make up the numbers, I doubt anyone really thinks otherwise.
Simonsen would be a decent keeper though it would be odd to sign someone on wages significantly more than what Paddy was on.
The other guy - Dickinson? - I know nothing about.

Now, just like all other "experts" on here Bert hasn't got a clue how much Simonsen is on but he does note that Stoke signed him before they got promoted to the Premiership and that he is their reserve goalkeeper. Bert therefore concludes that he is hardly likely to be on much more money than our ex-goalkeeper Mr Kenny, Bert also notes that we now have £750,000 of QPR's money thanks to the departure of the aforesaid thick chump Mr Kenny.

In Bert's book that will be known as a "Result" should we sign Simonsen.

Simmonsen is Stoke's third choice Bert behind Sorenson and Begovic so maybe on less than we actually think.

Long time no post, Bert?

Did last season drive you off the internet towards the Châteauneuf-du-Pape?

Bored with the whingers old chap, Bert was brought up to support his team through thick and thin not knock them endlessly.
