Been watching since 1990:

1. Glyn Hodges - possibly a strange choice to some but also possibly the most naturally gifted player I've seen play for us. As a kid growing up I used to love him since he was left footed like myself and I always tried to replicate him, albeit very badly. Lovely footballer.

2. Brian Deane - just unplayable on his day in both his first and second spell. Pace, power and a class finisher as well as carrying the team pretty much on his own for many games. We'd have been bloody awful without him.

3. Michael Brown - for many of the reasons already mentioned. You rarely get seasons like that from midfield players, especially at our level. You just kinda knew that he'd do something when the ball fell to him. Another one that carried his team mates at times.

4. Vas Borbokis - might have only played a season or so with us but up there with Hodges in terms if natural footballig ability. Couldn't defend especially well but different gravy when playing as a wingback. That debut against Sunderland will be a long lasting memory. Class act.

5. Alan Kelly - incredible shot stopper and won us many a point or two with some outstanding displays. I never got to really see the best of Simon Tracey but my dad reckons Kelly was a better keeper. I've never seen any better for us. Should probably have been playing at a higher level for a bigger club than us.

Mick Jones , saw him as a junior and become a top striker , him and Birch are still the best Ive seen as I just caught Derek Paces swan song games

Tony Currie , could add 5000 to any gate , at any ground , born footballer , been around now would be on 250 k a week , sublime ability and natural body rythym , and could drop a pass on a specific blade of grass

Bob Booker absolutely totally limited ability , but could carry a team with his drive, would literally pick players up and put them in the right place, gave 101% every game and fans could rely on him to hold the fort while the talent played

Colin Addison , probably the smoothest operator we ever had , always heads up looking around directing play wished we had him earlier in his career , which also goes for ;

Paul McGrath , without doubt the best reader of a game ever to play in a red and white shirt , for someone who had lego bricks for knees he was astounding, to play like he did was truely heroic

I can't limit my list to 5 but here's 11...
John Hope
Len Badger
Ted Hemsley
John Flynn
Eddie Colquhoun
Trevor Hockey
Alan Woodward
Geoff Salmons
Bill Dearden
Tony Currie
Gil Reece

Hodgy
Mick Jones
Woodward
TC
Deano

Nearly:
Mick Jones
Alan Woodward
Tony Currie

I feel guilty leaving Hodgy out but on balance I feel Ned was a better keeper.

So many great players left out: Len, Geoff Salmons, Glyn Hodges, Dane Whitehouse, Colin Addison, Bill Dearden, Alex Sabella, Michael Brown, Jags, Kyle Walker .....................

Alan Kelly - Class goalkeeper, best No.1 in Blades goal.

1. Woody
2. TC
3. Brownie
4. Kelly
5. McGrath

i once stood on the away end (Newcastle) and was listening to the geordies. they were laughing at Woody.. who's the 'old bloke' with the grey hair??' they weren't laughing for long.. TC .. it's all been said.. Brownie is a bit of a toe rag but we've never replaced him. our upturn in fortunes coincided with his arrival and decline since his departure.. with Kelly you just thought.. 'no problem .. they'll never beat Kelly anyway'.. and McGrath.. like BTL mentioned he was a Rolls Royce among British Leylands.. he was totally stand out.. some of the stuff he used to do made me laugh out loud

I always seemed to prefer players he weren't regarded as the star player at the time!

1. Tony Agana - My all time favourite
2. Colin Morris - Always the player I was in Mundella playground
3. Bob Booker - All round one of the lads type
4. Roger Nilsen - brilliant player, if it wasn't for his once per match cock up, he'd have been a superstar
5. Paul Stancliffe - Solid as they come.
5. Michael Brown - best recent player in my mind

The first season I remember was the 4th division promotion campaign, so i missed the Curries and Woodwards

I took heroes to mean players who climbed above the norm , not just talent , but creatyed a bond with the fans , for their commitment , not neccesarily their talent, their shoulders to the grindstone , a concentration camp tunnel digger, getting us out of scrapes
