Apologies if these tables are too small to read but I thought that they contained a few interesting points.
Last year, on the left, we didn't lose to anybody below 7th place, apart from fucking Walsall who we'll take as an anomaly! This year, on the right, we've won 2 and lost 3 to the top 8, won 4 and lost 3 to the middle 8, and won 6 lost none to the bottom 8. So generally, we are very consistent at beating the low table players - something which we weren't good at pre-Tufty, but this year the higher standard is in two thirds rather than one third of the table.
Also, 5 of the 6 teams that we have lost to this year were in the Prem in the last 3 calendar years - Boro (2017), Norwich (2016), QPR (2015), Fulham and Cardiff (2014). Only Forest are a long-term Champ club and the only teams from the Prem in that period who we haven't lost to are Sunderland and Hull. Only team that we haven't played from the last 3 years is Villa.
So our record against teams not in the Prem in the last 3 years is Played 11 Won 10 Lost 1, and against those that have come down we have Played 7 Won 2 Lost 5. So the reason that we are above most of the teams that we have lost to is our ability to perform better than they do against lower table opposition. The next 2 games are against bottom third clubs, so let's hope that we maintain this ability!
