Whiteman

Sounds like Ben is adapting well to the higher level;

'Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman saw one strike hit the woodwork and another cleared off the line,'

Would love to see him back in January to boost the promotion push
Glad he is doing well, but he needs to prove himself at that level for a full season.

Great to hear he's settling in well.

It's a difficult one. At this stage, he'll benefit most from regular football. However, we could have used him yesterday. Much better option for what was needed compared to Lundstram (who is a different kind of player).

Whitemans move to Donny on loan is a brilliant move for him and us . Game time at a higher level whilst partnering Coppinger, a model pro, screams win win for everyone concerned.

Another great headache for Wilder to contend with come Christmas and the end of his loan spell .

Leave whiteman where he is. 30 plus games on league one will do more for him than occasional substitute appearances for us.

See how he adapts - if he does well and scores he'll stand a better chance of making it into our midfield. I rate the player and think he could have an impact long term.

Anyone know how Reed got on? He played the full 90 in chesterfield's defeat yest.

Very complementary piece by Ferguson in today's Star explaining why he played him in the holding role and how well be did there both in getting his foot in getting forward.

Long way to go yet I know but he's got to be an option if we can't get Leonard in. Wilder is also in the Star saying he's short on bodies so come Xmas he might be back if we don't make any more signings in midfield.

A friend came back from the match singing his praises. Very quickly recognised that he is a player who should/could have a big impact upon the team across the season.

Last season by all accounts he did very well in Lg2 with Mansfield, lets hope this season he can make the step up to Lg1 with Donny (I'd let him stay the whole season for the game time/experience) and then who knows - making the step up again to the Championship next season? I could see it happening. Another great talent - takes less limelight than Brooks but hopefully that will be to our advantage with less prem clubs sniffing around to take him for a paltry fee.

Not for me. I think he should see the season out there and get first team experience. We need top quality technically gifted players at this level. Ben may be such a player in the future hopefully, but he's not there yet and he's not going to get there either by coming back to us and not making the first team or even the bench.

That's just an assumption isn't it?

No doubt we had the same comments about Brooks when it looked like he was going to Chesterfield. But he's clearly more than ready to contribute at first team level.

United looked deficient on Saturday in one area only; that of a holding midfielder. This problem will become more evident as the season progresses. Yet we have someone who fits this bill out on loan. United and a lot of our fans seem terrified at the prospect of giving one of our own academy bred players a chance and are instead scouring the lower leagues looking for an alternative.

Just to remind everyone, Whiteman is 21. He is not a fucking kid. He does not need to play for Donny fucking Rovers to progress. If he is good enough get him back here and get him in the squad. We were crying out for someone of his attributes in the last 20 minutes on Saturday.

Don't you think that CW and AK might just have the tiniest inkling about what we need?

For whatever reason that neither you or I are privy to, they have chosen to send him out on loan in L1 to improve him. Given that (apart from a few potentially career destroying minutes under Adkins), all his footy has been played in L2, maybe they want the lad to develop and learn?

Maybe you are right though and they are clueless. Gerrimin and play Brooks from the start too (once he's signed his £20k per week contract). It's the Bladesway.....

Don't know where you're coming from with that but my assertion was that at 21 he's not a kid anymore and that we could have have used someone of his attributes during the last 20 minutes on Saturday. Sorry if that upset you.

Whitemen progress to play for Sheffield united has been made difficult by our rapid success. It's hard for young players like him to keep up but he's doing everything right.

Lundstram was one of the best midfielders in league one last season, so to get in our team Whiteman has to be at the same level.

But he's going about it in the perfect way!

You didn't upset me so no apology needed but very sweet of you to offer it.

You are right he is not a kid, but he hasn't played enough league games for a 21 year old, to make the leap into the Championship as we all know it is like La Liga.

So far BW has 8 appearances for us (mainly as a sub), 23 for Mansfield and 1 at Donny. My point is, that is not enough for this division. He will come on far more playing regularly at Donny rather than bench warming for us with the odd 20 minutes here and there.

So why did we recall Brooks from Chesterfield?

So why did we recall Brooks from Chesterfield?

We didn't 'recall' him as he never actually went to them. Semantics aside, he had just won player of the tournament in a major international yoof competition. Much as I like Whiteman, I don't think anyone is suggesting he is at that level.

In any case it is irrelevant what two random blokes on the internet think. CW is the manager and he has decided that BW is 'not ready' but that DB is.

We can discuss it until the cows come home, but nothing will change until January at the earliest. Actually not letting DB go to Chesvegas may make CW even more reluctant to pull BW back, as he wouldn't want to look like Billy Bigbollocks with his local managerial chums.
