Whiteman returns

CW has seen the players in training he knows what Whiteman is capable of. If we had not progressed as quickly as we have he would be in and around the first team.

Last year we had arguably the best midfielders in the league and he wasn’t close to playing for us in League one.

Now in the championship we have bought 2 midfielders who are up there with the best in league one.

If we are to sell him then good luck to him and I hope he has a great career. But we shouldn’t try him out of sentiment.

Hope he goes back out on loan again, whether he's good enough for us or not I feel he is adding value to himself the more he plays.

When Ferguson signed Whiteman on loan he said "he's from the Man Utd 'stable', that tells me something".

Good player and let's all hope he earns a few starts and gets chance to establish himself.

Played well in midfield in our first team when he got the chance, not so good at full back. Always prominent in U-23's etc.

Do you think so Woody? I've not followed him at U23 level tbh, but I think I've seen every game that Whiteman has played in for the first team and he's made no big impression on me tbh. I'm not saying he's a bad player, but just very ordinary and I really don't think he's up to Championship standard.

Just forget our own midfield players for a moment... Did you go to the opening game v Brentford? Or maybe you saw the recent game v Bristol City? What did you think of their midfield players? Did you notice how quick and accurate they moved the ball around the pitch? From what you've seen of Whiteman, do you think he's that kind of standard? Because I don't. Not in a million years. And we are striving to be better than both those teams.

I think he'll probably make a decent lower league midfielder, but that's not where we are now and it's not where we are going. So, I really do think it's best for him and us that he moves on - and fortunately it sounds like we've got a potential buyer. So, GLTTL but his future is not here.

(I said the same about Scougall and Done btw - I wonder if anyone on here would like either of those two back? Probably not. Time moves on. Our club is looking for a whole different standard of player now to 18 months ago).

As a club we've moved on even in that short time since my post.

The signings of Leonard and Evans upgrade our midfield. They are 25 and 23 respectively.

The midfield you refer to v Brentford ( a game we were slightly fortunate to win) was Coutts (29) Fleck (26) and Duffy (32).

Whiteman is 21 years old and yes I see a player worth £700k in 2 or 3 years time. That is the comparison.

In actual fact there is no chance of him gaining playing time in our first team this season. We have upgraded and the lad will go back to Donny I should think.

In League 1 Whiteman has 6 goals 1 assist. Evans 3 goals 7 assists playing for league leaders and taking set pieces. Leonard 4 goals 1 assist. I do not wish to detract from the two excellent new signings but Whiteman is a player make no mistake, he is joint league leading scorer at Donny with the highly rated Marquis, striker.

Wilder has prioritised midfield to upgrade last summer. The midfield we saw v Brentford will be unrecognisable before too long. I would imagine our midfield will be tall, athletic and powerful, box to box big-engined midfielders who 'do everything' as Wilder once said he liked, for 90 minutes too.

I do accept that when a club upgrades it gets harder for young lads to break through. Whiteman in 2 years time will be easily good enough at this level but where will he be and where will we be?

Referring to the Scougall and Done you picture is like going back to the dark ages, only 4 years ago mind you. Hail Wilder.

There is no evidence at all that sometime League One starter; sometime substitute Whiteman will be ‘easily good enough’ at Championship level. I say he won’t.

I pray in aid my bullseye accurate assessments of previous Boyband world-beaters, including Little Louis.

How does one 'do disdain' for a felflow Blade in Fairyland? :tumbleweed:

If being intelligent makes people as rude and ignorant as you Pinchy, I am happy that I am simple.

He's not intelligent, he's a sophomaniacal little cretin who offers pearls of wisdom like this:

It's a big no from me to the little Flecker. One good season and he's a must have. He hasn't the height or presence and his goal scoring record of 10 league goals in 9 years as a pro would put Montgomery to shame.

How much money are you prepared to bet on Little Louis, Woody?

Be careful because my answer is plenty.

You are utterly deluded, my friend, and have no understanding of the chasm between youth football and the professional game. I shan’t trouble to list the young tyros who I’ve accurately labelled future nonentities when others have them first name on the team sheet.

The pathway for youth is, 9 times out of 10, a rocky unadopted cart path, seldom the yellow brick road. You really should know that. I’ve told you often enough....

Ironside..... Ironside...

Stick to your cartoons Pinchy. :fattwat:

If Whiteman wasn't a United player would we have had him on the 'possible' list. Maybe, maybe not?

To me it would seem that the players we've brought in are those that CW preferred more. Wilder has made his decision and it is down to Whiteman to knuckle down and prove him wrong and the players we have brought in to do the same and prove him right.

Ideally all will be successful and we will benefit from the lads here and also from a sell-on fee from Whiteman.

In 2 years time yes, very much so.

First point Pinchy, the lads we are discussing are PROFESSIONALS, not 'youth players'. No chasm!

As for repeatedly talking about the 'rocky unadopted cart path' as part of the pathway for youth, well, talk about stating the blee***g obvious!! For your information '9 times out of 10' is a huge understatement. repeat things all you like but get the basics right old boy.

As for Ironside, not many ever expected him to achieve that much but he did try his best whenever I watched him and he was a big player in that great year for our Youth Team. Some of us supported the lad and wished him well. Some of us made life uncomfortable for him and he will remember our fans full well for that. He was a professional too by the way.

Good luck to Whiteman, he will remember our fans' support with warmth and appreciation.

Good luck to 'Little Louis' as you call him but he will have a different view of 'fans' like you Pinchy. Your battering of the lad is merciless and you totally lose sight of the simple fact that he is a Blade, he's on our side, he's part of our club.

How big are you Pinchy? Should you be calling anybody 'little'. Especially footballers amongst whom the greatest players were often the smaller ones. Fatuous and primitive and callous, that's your attitude to Louis Reed.
