I am against signing 30 odd year old players in general, especially in the position we're in. But Ricky Holmes has a few months short of 2 years on Duffy, and Wilder would have already known how best to utilise him.

We don't have to sign players the manager has had before, sure I've heard that too...

Anyway you seem to be arguing your own philosophy. I'll leave you to it - 'Me, myself and Barney'!

Well HCDM has pointed out what I was getting at, you just go against everything you say without even realising.

I also think you could've said he'd be a good signing just incase another club signed him so you could then slag us off for having no ambition. You cover every basis in slagging us off, unreal for a supposable Blades supporter.
Well no because if we do sign him, I'd be happy so I wouldn't be slagging the club off.

You clearly don't give your posts much thought, as it's impossible to cover every base:

If I think it'd be a good signing - Signs, happy - Doesn't sign, unhappy.
If I think it wouldn't be a good signing - Signs, unhappy - Doesn't sign - happy.

Basic logic this, really shouldn't be something you struggle with.

It's a big no from me to the little flecker. One good season and he's a must have. He hasn't the height or presence and his goal scoring record of 10 league goals in 9 years as a pro would put Montgomery to shame.

I hope he goes to be small and not score elsewhere, at which point, of course, we'll have 'missed out again'....

Well, he won Coventry's POTY award for starters. These are exactly the types of players we need to be going for, the best players in the teams from this division. I think he'll add that bite to the midfield, doing a Doyle type job only better.

Slight negative is that he doesn't score much but he's a very good passer of the ball with good vision so will undoubtedly provide the level of service that has been missing from midfield for so long. He's also a left footer so will add some balance.

Signing a goalscoring midfielder alongside him, with a bit more height and physicality would be the perfect combination centrally. Just as an aside, Wilder has said he wants a left footed midfielder which is promising as it means it's highly likely we'll be in for him.
You are always judging players by pure guesswork. Thank god you are not one of our scouts

You knew exactly what I meant.

I post on a great forum when i get chance, sometimes I don't have a chance or time to think before posting, those posts will still carry more logic than you'll ever have and that's without thinking. :D

I don't think Barney said he wanted Holmes to sign because Wilder had managed him before, I think he was referring to it being his preference over signing Duffy........?

Yep, would be a good signing.
Do you think if he signs, that you will get to see him play, or will it be the highlight reel for you.
Did you manage to renew for this season?

Personal abuse is against forum rules, infraction given.

Well I must admit that I didn't think you were this much of an idiot. Comparing fleck to Doyle when fleck is anything but a holding midfielder. What a know nowt cunt

I’m gonna put my tin hat on now and say I actually believe that, if we play the Nigel Clough version of 451 with a DM in front of the back 4 and 2 CMs given license to joint the attack in front of him (Coady and Scougall previously) that Chris Basham could chip in with 7 or 8 goals over the course of a season if he’s played in the Coady role. He lacks finesse (bar THAT moment against Southampton) but he can at times make good late runs into the box and has the legs to get up and down. Think he got 3 or 4 goals last season switching about between CM, CB and RWB.

best of his goals was that volley against donny even though it was from about 3/4 yards from goal

A quick check on wiki reveals that Fleck played as a deep lying midfielder under Pressley but was pushed forward under Mowbray, with Vincelot as the deeper midfielder.
So it would appear he's versatile. He struggled to hold onto a first team place under Robbins which suggests he responds to good management.

Coutts has no presence and couldn't score in a brothel. But you'd happily keep him.

None of which makes any case whatsoever for the non-scoring dwarf Fleck. I thought we needed big strong athletes in this league?

Oh and Tufty isn't interested in that deep-lying or holding shite. It "does his head in" Like me he expects a midfielder to do what the appellation suggests...

That Scottish guy, Jackson Pollock or whatever his name is. He seems to have what we need. Not the little Flecker that seems to be the must-have because he's had a good season at mighty Cov.

Irvine and Fleck would be a good, suitable duo. Both good all rounders.

If Wilder says that it implies his tactics are fairly basic. Which is fine by me.

I did point out though that Fleck had played as a deep lying midfielder and as an attacking midfielder so that indicates he has the ability to play as a traditional box to box midfielder.

The reference to Coutts was simply because you didn't apply the goal scoring criteria to your assessment of him as a midfielder so I'm struggling to see why you apply that criteria to another midfielder. If you think central midfielders should contribute to our goal tally, then surely you accept that Coutts isn't a suitable player for us?

In today's social media based world, a potentially significant event.

Fleck's missus has followed the club on Twitter! As well as Jack O'Connell's brother.

I've checked Flecks missus's twitter @xlauren10Tx and she does follow SUFC, but she started following the Blades on the 4th May, not today.

I must admit Irvine appeals to me more than Fleck. That said, I still think Fleck would be an improvement on what we have. The fact he’s played deep and advanced suggests he has something like an all round midfield game about him.

Fleck would be one of the best signings for centre midfield we could pull off. He's 24 and on a free, left footed , knows the league , coventrys best player last season we couldn't ask for anything more really.

Fleck would be a decent signing on a free.

How about another 6 inches in height and a few goals? The idea that we can't ask for anything better than Cov's best player is a novel one.
I'm afraid I do ask for more than 5' 6", a left foot and a career average of one goal a season.

Couldn't ask for more? Silly Flecker.

And the idea of bigger, stronger and more athletic being the way ahead? Is that suspended? I fear the Little Flecker is becoming this decade's Jason Koumas...
